  • Black Bean Chipotle Gardenburgers are my favorite. I think they taste like Bell Beefer's used to when they had them at Taco Bell. I never thought I'd ever prefer a Gardenburger to real beef, but I really think I do. Yum!
  • People use "Bump" to bring the topic to go back to the top of the recent post board so more people can read it and get involved.
  • Weighing your food on a scale will give you a more accurate measure of calories than using a cup to measure, however both ways actually work fine and are way ahead of guessing.
  • There are disadvangages, but you need to eat quite a lot. The protein numbers in MFP are quite low. They should be considered minimums not maximums. Your maximum should be one gram of protein for every pound in your goal weight.

  • I'm not familiar with Ground Red Pepper. Does that mean Cayenne, red pepper flakes (like you put on pizza) or is it something else? Thanks!
  • Congratulations, This has happened to almost every athlete. You exerted yourself a tad past the limit. It's nothing to worry about and is often considered a badge of honor. You're body will be ready for those stairs next time.
  • I consider the protien number that MFP gives you to be a minimum. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are exceeding your goal weight in grams of protein.
  • Visit Yosemite. What foreign country would you most want to visit?
  • You are consuming too many calories at night and then you're not hungry the next day. You need tobreak this cycle. Stay within your allotted calories for a week or two without cheating. You will find that you will suddenly wake in the morning hungry. Then you need to work on establishing more regular meals throughout the…
  • That's why this is referred to as a Lenten "Journey". It's not a Lenten "I'm perfect now". It's a long time until Easter, just working on your journey.
  • I'm giving up snacking. I'm going to eat 3 meals per day and nothing between 8 and 8.
  • Stop worrying about it. You can have a well balanced nutrionally complete diet without eating seafood. Just keep having fun finding healthy foods you love.
  • Plan a reasonalble snack in the evening. 100 calorie pack, piece of fruit etc. Maybe something bigger if you can spare the calories. Eat it and enjoy it. Then brush your teeth and think of that as the period at the end of your day. After you brush your teeth you can't have anything but water.
  • In the U.S. we rarely use the term half-pint, we use cup instead. If it's wet or dry ingredients it's basically the same. We typically have different measuring cups for dry and wet ingredients, but it's very close and should work out fine if you just use a half pint measure.
  • I would add some protein. Something you like, maybe: string cheese almonds jerky It will give you more staying power than the carb. snacks.
  • Yes, exactly.
  • He has much more weight to lose because he's been further off the mark than you for a while and therefore has more drastic changes to make. I saw your calorie goals and know he is a very big guy & accustomed to eating alot. I don't disagree that ultimately he will need to make additional changes, but I think you'll get…
  • Changing eating habits is a very hard thing to do. It actually sounds like he's doing a lot of things right. Staying within his calories for example. Plus you say he is having better results than you. As long as it's working, you should praise him for what he's doing right and turn a blind eye to his apparently small…
  • I am just starting the process toward Gastric Bypass Surgery. I would appreciate any advice any of you have for me. Thanks,
  • It's wonderful, delicious, large portion. Very satifactory.
  • Janice, Welcome, you'll find all the tools and support here to reach your goals. Make sure you log all of your food (I think you learn more from the things you don't want to log). You're going to succeed. Enjoy, Doug
  • Well day one I did well on my food, but didn't manage to get any exercise in. Today I'll hit both goals. Handling the food part is the more difficult of the two.
  • Start some resistance training. If you work on building muscle the fat will get out of the way. Congratulations on your weight loss success.
  • Congratulations on your new healthy lifestyle. Cleaning out your environment is such an awesome first step. Many people don't do that for months and justify that they need the crap in the house for their (kids, husband, guests.....). Love everyone in your household, especially yourself, enough to give them nutritious,…
  • You usually have to have a BMI over 35 to qualify and I don't think you could if you're 30 pounds overweight. Congraulations on your weight loss. You're doing amazing! I know it feels slow and hard, but you're much more likely to keep it off by reducing so slowly. You're making long term changes in diet and fitness that…
  • Great plan. I think a 3 hour workout Friday will "pay" for your Thursday night party. Keep logging!
  • I like to eat lite frozen entrees for lunch, but I try to choose the ones with sauce and add 2 cups of veggies. Zuchinni to spagetti or lasagne, frozen stir fry veggies to chinese. It works well with anything that has a sauce.
  • Sure, if you know what's in it and it's healthy. So your friends theroy is that by simply adding basil, oregano and garlic, tomatoes and onions stop being vegetables??? If you eat it in a restaurant and it has more olive oil than tomatoes then your friend would have a point.
  • Next week try to trim it down to a meal rather than a day. Maybe you should even plan it. This isn't about deprevation, but about making healthy choices you can live with for a lifetime. It sounds as if your food plan is just a little too rigid & you need a little more ... Don't knock 3 oz a week, the slower you lose…
  • It takes second place to being outside on my bike, but I certainly enjoy it more than anything else at the gym, plus it's a really great cardio workout. My class is at 5:45 am, so it's getting pretty had to get out of my nice warm bed in the morning. My whole day is better when I do.
