  • I absolutely love Spirutein Chocolate. And I love it with iced water... not milk. It's way too thick with milk.
  • Age: 43 years Height: 5'7" Weight: 131.6 pounds BMI: 20 Intake: ~1200 cals Exercise: My goal is 30-60 minutes of playing Wii Fit each day I am happy with the number on the scale for now but also want to get leaner (more fit) before deciding whether or not I need to shed another 5-10 pounds.
  • HIPPO We have a set of great grandparents that LOVE to receive frozen meals from Trader Joe's for holidays. Each daughter (my MIL and her sisters) will chip-in and fill a insulated back with all kinds of fun food for their parents to reheat. Another option is to buy, cook, and freeze the food for your father so that he's…
  • It happens to me. I add chia seeds to inflate my calories when needed.
  • agreed. not all "foods" are created equal. many don't even meet the definition of food
  • my go-to 200-calorie snacks are: Greek Yogurt with Frozen Blueberries or Frozen Cherries Greek Yogurt with peanuts and raisins Greek Yogurt Dip with Apples/Celery/Carrots/Pretzels for dipping (add cinnamon and honey or spices such as garlic, onion, dill) Peanuts and Raisins Chocolate Chia Pudding Olives and Macadamia Nuts…
  • Fruit on skewers might grab people's attention. Everyone loves a skewer! ;)
  • I buy from the Whole30 vegetarian list: apricots blackberries blueberries cherries grapefruit kiwi melon (not watermelon) plums raspberries strawberries http://www.pinterest.com/pin/9218374210985133/
  • I make a crock pot of pinto beans, a batch of Greek yogurt, and hard boil eggs each week. This means easy-grab snacks (eggs, produce, nuts, raisins), easy breakfast (eggs, yogurt, and fruit), easy lunch (salad with egg), easy dessert (yogurt with fruit) for me and easy bean, rice, cheese dinner variations for the family.…
  • :) I agree. Eat to live. Don't live to eat. ;)
  • I gave up grain and sugar in August for two weeks that turned into roughly 5 months (minus a week during the holidays). In January I gave up alcohol, legumes, and dairy (except Greek yogurt). I will continue with the no grain and no sugar. I'll continue with the no alcohol. I have more energy -- no more mid-day Diet Coke.…
  • I cut Diet Coke this year. I replaced it with sparkling water. And I've cut beer too. Instead of a beer at night, I drink hot tea. BUT, the biggest difference that I've seen in my body was the cutting of grain and sugar.... Now that will get rid of the extra pounds for sure!
  • Sharing an anecdotal story online isn't the same as giving grandma an ultimatum and/or trying to sabotage my children's relationships with their grandparents.
  • I wholeheartedly agree.
  • My attitude is "relationships over rules" -- hardly *kitten*-hole-ish. Grandma got called-out on not treating the children as equals (re: shoes). It was NOT very minor. It ruined our family's morning from 6a - 7:30a. It was huge. The Valentine thing is annoying for ME but I'm not going to say anything to her. Yes, that…
  • This made me chuckle. "shafted by grandmom..." that was funny.
  • :) Point well taken.
  • I'm guessing that you're not a mother.
  • The reason this is not childcare is because it's not to help me. If I pulled back, I'd be the *kitten*. I accommodate their needs on this, not mine. Call it what you want but I live it and I know exactly what it is. I care that this is my daughter's first year in school and I wanted to help her make Valentine's for her…
  • Oh yeah, heaven forbid I get annoyed with grandma because she's not dead.
  • Good point. No, I wasn't there for the Valentine's and shoes. My kids are fortunate enough to have grandparents that live in town and want to spend every Friday with them. It's not a baby-sitting situation -- it's me letting my kids spend their Friday with their grandparents. My comment about undoing my hard work was…
  • No, I didn't miss the last post about everyone jacking her kids full of sugar without asking her first. Yes, boundary-stompers is what we call those. No, I don't use my in-laws for babysitters EVER. They have the audacity to undermine my parenting while in my company. But like theorizing.
  • You might try a list. My husband wrote a clear list for his parents -- not what they CAN'T eat but what they CAN. The kids can eat fruit, vegetables, meat, nuts, and cheese. They can drink water -- sparking, soda, plain. Treats are FRUIT not candy. We encourage her to buy raspberries, blueberries, etc. I might even print…
  • I feel bad to write this but grandma over-stepped our family's boundaries twice yesterday. First, she decided that SHE would help my Kindergartener make her class valentines without discussing it with me first. And then she bought one of my daughters new shoes, which meant that from 6:00 - 7:30 a.m. this morning, I had a…
  • I can sympathize. We also have a grandma that does what makes HER feel good without regard for the stress it causes our family. Inappropriate foods. Inappropriate toys. Inappropriate clothes. Our guilty-grandma just got the "don't buy before asking" lecture this morning. I'm sorry that you and your son are going through…
  • I'll be 43 in March. My baby turned a year old last month. I've lost 22 pounds since August of this year by eliminating grain and sugar from my diet and walking ~2 miles per day. It's really minimal effort with maximum results IMHO. I gained 4 pounds over the holidays and am currently doing the Whole30. I've lost 6 pounds…

  • Hi, my name is Jeni. I have attempted this challenge in both November and December but believe that I'm ready for it this month. I am researching the Whole30 cleanse/reboot right now to see if I can jump-start my metabolism. I'm better with cutting things from my diet. Moderation? What's that?
