  • Have a look at the various Diabetic support groups here on MFP where you will find a weath of information and support.
  • Hi and welcome to this group. Many of the people in this group will identify with your reaction to being diagnosed as diabetic. The good news is that for the vast majority of people it is possible to get a really good level of control and to live a healthy and active life. The MFP programme has been an absolute lifeline to…
  • If anyone is unfortunate enough to find themselves in this position the last place they should go is one of these Pay Day Loan companies. The situation will only get worse. Surely a better plan would be to get some advice from organisations like Citizens Advice or other debt advice organisations as to how they might manage…
  • That's great news. Well done on taking steps to improve your results. Every good news story is an encouragement to those of us still on the journey. Thanks for sharing.
  • Hi and welcome to this group. You've made a great decision by joining us and have certainly started in the right direction. When you;re ready to ask questions you will find lots of genuine people in the group who are willing to share their experience and provide you with encouragement and support. I wish you well on your…
  • Hi and welcome to this group. You have made a great decision in joining this group. The good news is that the MFP programme, if correctly applied, really does work. The programme requires patience, persistence and determination which can only come from you. As a first step, take your time to read over the many threads in…
  • Great to hear that you will still be with us BigG. To lose 10" from your waist is a fantastic achievement, very well done indeed. For those of us who are techno neanderthals could you explain what a Strava is. I'm assuming it's some sort of activity monitor or app.
  • That's a great result BigG, very well done. You deserve this outcome with all your hard work. I would certainly echo the sentiments expressed that you're not allowed to leave this group. We have all benifited from your insightful inputs. I'm sure that your'e wise enough to continue testing and have the occasional A1c to…
  • I watched both programmes ie 'The men who made us thin' and 'The men who made us fat. I thought both series were well done and made a number of valid points. Whether or not we agree with the points made we can at least agree that increased awareness is no bad thing and in that the programmes achieved their purpose. If we…
  • Just for the record I watched the programme and found it very informative. Reading some of the negative comments I begin to wonder if the naysayers watched the same programme I did. At no stage was it an attempt to blame others for the fact that many of us have eaten an unhealthy diet in the past. The programme did draw…
  • Hi Raizie and welcome to this group. Getting a diagnosis of Diabetes is often a cause for concern and many of us in this group will empathise with your feelings. The good news is that with a disaciplined approach and the proper application of the MFP programme the vast majority of people in this group have gained a really…
  • Great news, we're are always in the market for good news stories which are an encouragement to the rest of us. Well done on your efforts to date. Keep us posted on your progress.
  • Thanks for sharing your good news about your A1c results. Success stories always act as an encouragement to the rest of us so never underestimate the value of your contributions. What may seem insignificant to you can be a great help to someone else. Well done on your success. Keep it going.
  • Hi HC and Marianna, and welcome to this support group. Being diagnosed with Diabetes comes as a shock to most people, except those with a family history. The feeling you both experienced is something which most of us in this group can identify. The good news is that for the vast majority of people, Diabetes can be…
  • Hi Emily and welcome to this group. Bob (bdubya55) has covered things pretty comprehensively. Information is power and Bob has given you a great list of reference material. The only thing I would add to Bob's post is to point out that the MFP programme, if properly applied, really does work. The many testimonies to that…
  • That's great news, well done. It's always good to hear good news stories which are an encouragement to everyone still on the journey.
  • That's great news, well done. Success stories are always an encouragement to all of us still on the journey.
  • Thanks again Azdak for another gem. You certainly make a positive contribution for those of us who are lay people.
  • Hi and welcome to this support group. Joining MFP is one of the best decisions you have made. One of the frustrating things about Diabetes is that it is a very individual condition. What works for one person, may not work for the next. For that reason you should treat any prescriptive advice, no matter how well…
  • That's a great effort, well done.
  • Something similar, viz, approx 45 net carbs per meal with say 20 allowede for snacks if required. Exercise around 60 mins per week. Macro ratio of around 40:30:30 for Carbs, Protein and Fat. A carb/protein ration of around 2:1. Emphasis on waist to hip ratio rather than a focus on BMI. As you can see , a not disimilar…
  • I try to keep under 135 net carbs per day. I would have concerns about the long term impact of consistently going under under this target.
  • Hi Babs and welcome back to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about your health struggles. One of the side effects of diabetes is depression so there well be a connection there which you could explore. As you may already be aware, diabetes is a very individual condition and what works for one person may not necessarily work for…
  • Perhaps the midges in the Uk are more vicious but like BigG any bite will cause swelling and a supturating spot which takes ages to heal. I use jungle spray but the blighters always seem to home in on any spots I miss.
  • Hi Christi and welcome to this group. Joining this group is a great decision. There is a wealth of information on here covering a wide range of issues. I suggest that you take time to run thorugh the various threads and get a feel for the site. When you're ready to ask questions you will find lots of genuine people on here…
  • Thanks Azdak for yet another really informative posting. You always provide a lot of really helful advice which I for one really appreciate and try to benefit from.
  • I'm not familiar with this particular programme although I am familiar with the benefits of exercise as an aid to maintaining good control. Perhaps you would like to give us more details.
  • It is said that confession is good for the soul, so here goes. I went to my GP today for my A1c results and was disappointed but not suprised that my results have not maintained therecent trend for steady improvement. Comparing these results with the last test showed that the only improvement was in my blood pressure.…
  • Tha's a great effort and a just reward for all your hard work. It's always good to hear of success stories because they not only validate the programme, if validation was needed, but they act as an ecouragement to all our MFP friends who are still on the journey to fitness and health. Thanks for sharing your story with us.
  • Diabetes is a very individual condition which makes it one of the most frustrating to deal with. What works for one person may not work for the next. It really is a case of trying to identify those foods which cause you to spike and then either eliminating them from your diet or keeping them strictly controlled. The…
