I have been exercising (other than walking) for 4 months now. Prior to NROLW, the only thing I did remotely resembling strength training was Julian Michael's 30 Day Shred (circuit training with small weights). So yeah, brand spanking new. Oh and I went to the gym twice to have someone try to show me their version of weight…

Read these boards. Read these boards. Read these boards. There is lots of information here. I learn something new everyday. There are lots of recommendations of programs and exercises and the purposes of them hidden just within the threads of these forums. Add a few people you admire their progress and start talking to…

This^. 17 years. I mean it when I say it too. I don't say it when I'm angry. When I'm done though, back to this. And yes, actions do need to back it up too. Love the man. He took me kayaking this week because none of my other friends were willing to try it. He's not a strong swimmer and this is a big thing for him to do.

Your zumba calories are probably much closer to the truth than 800-1000 frame. I suggest you get an HRM. Let it be your gift to yourself for sticking through this and having a new toy might even further motivate you. I am 5'4" and when I started zumba, I weighed 154 and was getting 450-600 calorie burns per my HRM. Most of…

I am gonna suggest impending TOM or possible dietary bloating.

I laugh because I grew up with my father and let's just say we had 5 things on our menu. Most of them involved the grill. When I got married I had to call my mother, who is a fantastic cook, and ask what the heck it meant to "brown the meat." I"m surprised I even knew how to boil water. At my dad's house, we didn't cook on…

I tell him what I want him to make. I'm gonna be late. Please make [insert simple and easy but healthy dinner choice]. It works much better if I take the thinking out of the equation. Otherwise he either picked up Taco Bell on his way home or it is gonna be junk. If I haven't thought ahead, I live with it.

I wouldn't call that a low fitness level. Give yourself some credit. You may or may not find it challenging enough but it is $10 and a good start. Try it.

Edit to add: I would shorten this for more cohesion and readability but I'm on my phone. I'm a talker. I already owned it. I thought about this topic while I was preparing for my comps in college. I realize that I have three driving factors. I am goal-oriented, motivated by learning, and I am motivated by social…

That's good to know!

The last time I went, a few months ago, I was there for a going away party. I decided to have cheesecake for dinner along with a beer. My vote is skimp on the rest of the day and order a lite dinner and cheesecake. But be careful which one you choose. Look ahead.

I don't have any advice but I had to chuckle because I just texted my husband while he is out playing darts just to tell him I can now do real military style push ups! Yep. I talk about it a lot.

I don't live in Tokyo but I'm an expat in Okinawa, Japan.

I admit, I hate the guilt into reposting stuff. But I just ignore it. Sometimes I will "like" it but if it says that, I won't repost it. It has the opposite effect.
-
That was longer than I intended. For the record though, I like the regular life stuff too. All you mommies and pregnant people to all you retired friends, keep posting. I'm interested. It's nice to see normal stuff in the midst of a chaotic world. Love it. You can post your cake art too or plates of food. It's all good.…

As a military family, it has become an integral part of our overseas move. I can post pictures in one location for family and friends to see. I can see who is online during the overlap in time zone differences and invite family to video chat. I can ask silly questions I sincerely don't know the answer to because this is…

In the second picture, boobs are sticking out further than your belly. That should tell you a lot right there.

When I first started, I had to modify many moves, do all the exercises but do less reps and just kept moving for the full 27 minutes. I did all the minutes but I had to build up with the actual moves. Oh, and like Jullian says, pause for 5 deep breaths if you need it. Ha! Sometimes I paused for 1-2 minutes to catch my…

That's incredible! You are physically making tons of changes. It love reading about people who are moving and really make incredible changes like this. It's for your health. It's for your family. It's for you. It's evident that you are growing stronger and your endurance is growing. That alone, is worth every bit of it.…

Even sedentary has movement included in the formula. BMR X 1.2 (Sedentary Activity Multiplier). Thus it assumes you do get out of bed and do some daily stuff.

I make something similar. Did it have parsley in it? If so, that is Quinoa Tabouli. The oil is olive oil with a little bit of lemon juice, salt and pepper. I use 1/2Tbsp. for each serving of quinoa. (1/4 dry = 1 serving) You can put quite a variety of raw veggies in this salad. Hint: wash your quinoa before you cook it.

This is me except mine fluctuates more than that. MFP doesn't record mine on the feeds though because it is everyday. When I see a good loss, sometimes I announce it myself.

I had a friend who swore she couldn't meet her calorie target. Not only that but she has medical issues that require her to eat certain types of food. I couldn't convince her it was possible. But with logging, she started seeing which foods overdid it and how she could change it. Before she knew it, she was there! When I…

When you first get on this site, it can be mind boggling to see how much we really eat. Don't be surprised at first, if you are not completely able to mee your target right away. By logging, you are learning about foods and it gives you an opportunity to think through what you are doing. Soon you will be able to not only…

The fitbit adjust calories throughout the day as projection. The final calories will be displayed at the end of the day. It is confusing at first but it won't take long before you can see the pattern and go with the flow a bit. It takes about a week or so to let fitbit gather info and you to see what your TDEE trends are.…

Oops I missed the part where you said you use your apartment gym. I can understand why you put up with the gum's limitations since it is free and conveniently located. One thin I'm gonna throw out there is I have seen people on the boards mention Planet Fitness as being pretty cheap at $10/mo. If this is something you…

On my first day of Workout A, I was able to lift the 45lb bar--barely. I lifted it from the squat rack just enough to tuck my head under it. Then I started squatting with it. I've been doing squats without weights for months so my form for that is well-practiced and I can do many of them and go fairly low. I actually…

Although I have found some good foods with decent amount of iron in it, I was having the same issue. So a few times a week, I eat a cup of cereal. As for other foods... 1/2 cup of Chick Peas has 15% iron. Toasted chick peas (Put a little olive oil with various seasoning coating it and put on a cookie sheet in the oven on…
