  • Good Morning All! Milestone day today on the streak... Gutted out 10Km this morning before breakfast to give me my 100th consecutive day of running. 50 days left to meet my Canada150Runstreak. Currently hitting an average of 4.4 Miles per day and just passed the 350 mile mark. Going to try pushing for 600 miles during the…
  • In for 125 miles in August but already 1/3rd of the way there. Running Streak has continued nicely averaging 4 miles per day and am now on day 85 of my run streak. Paced a beginning runner to their first sub 30 5K last night. Kind of a good feeling seeing someone else succeed. Cheers,
  • Day 71 done - overslept this morning and settled on a meager 3 miles. 79 Days left in my Canada 150 Challenge... Find it hard to believe a friend of mine has done this for 10 years without missing a day. It is sometimes hard to fit in a mile or two.
  • But he had big teeth! LMAO!
  • Winnipeg, Manitoba
  • Day 58 - Streak continues... did a beautiful 5 miles this morning with the sunrise. Was neat seeing the steam rise off the river. Daily average is now at 4.4 miles per day...bumping just over 30 miles a week. Finding a little runners high for the first 3-4 hours of my work day.
  • Day 49 on my run streak. Did 7 miles of combination Road and trail run along the banks of Hecla Island and Lake Winnipeg. Started to overheat so needed to dial it back today. High humidity and high UV's... melting...
  • Not sure where the rest of my post disappeared to? But we'll try it again. Celebrated a Canada day with my 5K Run to Quit group that I coach. All of them completed their 5Km race today at the Forks Market here in Winnipeg and are smoke free since Mothers Day! Which is completely awesome! The icing on the cake was running…
  • Day 1 of July is day 45 of my Running Streak. Happy Canada Day.
  • I agree with this, and would add that you may want to keep healthy alternatives available when the cravings come on... for me it was carrot sticks and dip, raisins, and almonds.
  • Hello HelloKitty! From experience... the best workout routines are those that you can do and will do consistently. You'll find 100 different answers here... but the right one is the one that works for you and that you'll keep doing. Commit yourself to something that you can do daily for 20 minutes at a time... whether that…
  • Day 43 of a running streak... Gauntlet has been thrown to run 150 days in honor of Canada's 150th birthday. For June I just crossed the 125 mile mark with 1 day left in the month. Averaging 4.25 miles per day and aiming for consistency... no speed or hills. Looking at maybe 130 miles for June?
  • 48bpm Usually. It is sometimes elevated by a flying elbow drops from a small child who is trying to wake me.... That being said... I am 46 and a distance runner.
  • Day 36 - Run Streak. 4.5 easy miles before work... ran according to HR (zone 2) and my HR average was 131. I think this may be a side effect of my streak? I am either becoming more efficient or adapting to the daily routine.
  • I have found my garmin vivoactive HR+ has similar results to my old Garmin 305 with a chest strap. When I tested it, it was within a couple of beats. There used to be difference but I think as the tech has improved the wrist HRM's have become more reliable.
  • First suggestion is to get outside more often. The Treadmill puts many runners at a disadvantage as the belt drives the speed and its usually a constant. When you run outdoors, you're suddenly in charge of managing your pace and you also have to slightly change your running (engaging the hips and toeing off more) The…
  • I have a single bottle water belt that I wear during races. Its usually enough as there is usually water/gatorade on the course. I stuff the pouch with a few solid food stuffs (granola bars, trail mix, and a small pieces of jerky etc) to have between Gu's. I find I need something more solid than gel's during a marathon (or…
  • Thanks for the Welcome! I have an entire regimen I follow that helps keep me moving... and one of those things is to just keep moving. I have been running for years and am fairly tuned in with my body. Streak running is not for everyone and certainly not for the novice runner. My day starts at 5:00 am most days. I…
  • Not quite sure what you are asking... but walking to me implies a fairly level surface like a road, or sidewalk. Hiking would include climbing up and down hills, over rougher terrain and would require more effort... more effort equates to a significant difference in calories.
  • My running goal for June? Every. Damn. Day... and so far I am on a 34 day running streak averaging 3.5 miles per day.
  • I have a friend who is 75... he just ran his 75th Full Marathon. He started running at 65 when he retired. Its often times not about how much you run, but how smart you run. I have another friend who completed her last half marathon just shy of her 89th birthday. Age is a number not a limitation. Go for it!
  • Yup... Go Bombers! And 30 minutes for a 5K is quite respectable.
  • Hey there, I am a long time running coach and currently actually coaching a Run to Quit group for people who are aiming to quit smoking (and replace a bad habit with a new one). The biggest mistake most novice runners is that they go too fast and literally burn themselves out or suffer an injury. Think of the speed you…
  • I am a runner. Started light jogging when I was 38 and weighed 325lbs. I am now 45 and weight 235ish. I am still recovering from an Achilles injury that sidelined me for most of the past year, but just finished the Vegas Half as my first race back. Won't consider myself fully recovered until I am back to 9 minute miles.…
  • I'll probably get flamed for this but exercise is also not an excuse to eat anything you want. By all means, consume back some the calories burned in the form of lean proteins and maybe allow yourself some minor indulgences... but last time I checked a bowl of ice cream, cake and a bag of chips are neither lean nor…
  • Hey! First marathon? Awesome. I ran Honolulu as my first. Coming from Canada it was hard to prepare for (from Winter to wonderful in 24 hours). I actually ran my fifth in September and promptly tore my Achilles a month later. Tips? I have a few. 1. Follow a plan. Find a training plan that works for you and stick to it.…
  • First off, she is running "Couch to 5 K" (aka C25K), not 25K. Secondly, a properly fitted pair of shoes should not need to be broken in. If they don't feel right the first time you run in them, they aren't the right shoes, and never will be. Most real running stores will warranty the shoes provided they haven't been run…
  • @Blues4miles - Maybe I am just reading between the lines and I would normally agree with you about adding speed, but per the OP, she wanted to keep it within 30-35 minutes, and is running on a treadmill where increasing from 4.2 MPh to 4.3 Mph or 4.4 Mph isn't going to present significant risk. Treadmills provide an ideal…
  • No reason at all. Listen to Nike, and JUST DO IT! All kidding aside, I know people who run 7 days per week (I know a guy who just hit a 10 year streak... hasn't missed a daily run in 10 years). I run 3 days a week and cycle and weight train 3 days per week. Occasionally I'll take an extra maintenance day and rest. The only…
  • This sums up perfectly what I was going to say. Don't trust a dog you don't know and give it a very wide berth (if I know its ahead, I'll cross the street). Don't surprise or startle a dog you don't know (I run very softly and am hard to hear coming.) Remember Fido may just perceive your running towards it, or its owner as…
