  • I'll fast with you today, Meg. Yesterday's planned fast quickly ended after I posted here. For me, overeating breeds overeating and the night before, I ate something late (that never happens) and promptly woke up hungry. NOTHING sounds good. I'm sick of creamy, heavy dishes, but then salad and raw veg doesn't sound that…
  • I feel everyone's pain!! While I don't think they work, I see the allure of a detox. We are still trying to get back to normal food wise, but New Years is right around the corner. Add that to the fact that everyday feels like Saturday with the kids out of school. Honestly, xmasbreak feels like a parallel universe. Another…
  • We had a terrific Christmas, but am glad it's over. Even though I don't feel like I ate a ton of junk, my stomach is acting like it has. Perhaps too much wine and food, definitely not enough water. So I'm fasting today and will also plan on Thursday. I'm just beat. Scurrying around cooking and getting things ready can wear…
  • Last fast of the week with mostly success. I managed to eat a meal below 500 cals prior to ballet class. However, was ravenous when I got home plus started to feel the beginning of some chest congestion so I caved and had some chickpea noodle soup. I felt is was a good compromise and that, with some Emergen-C, has me…
  • And if a wine glass calls, you must answer ;) Cheers!!!
  • That's awesome, Karen!! Way to stick with it!!
  • Managed a solid fast yesterday as well as an impromptu ballet class...life is just better with ballet. I'm planning on subbing tomorrow at my sons school, so I won't have any problem knocking out one more FD this week. Life Flumi, I'm hoping to eke out a loss to remind me that whatever comes back on can be taken off. I'm…
  • Well, yesterday's fast ended in 2 glasses of wine and from there, well, I'm sure you can figure it out. I'm using the excuse that the holidays make it hard, but really, sometimes fasting is just hard. I may try again today or just wait until FD #2 on Thursday. I'll play it by ear. I'm also no longer a fan of large…
  • Last weeks fasts helped me to maintain. I've got shopping to do today and substitute teaching Thursday, so those will be my FD this week. I do enjoy baking, but have never been in the habit of doing a lot before Christmas. I'll be cooking a bit for Christmas Eve and then getting Christmas dinner together on Christmas Day.…
  • Hey, Karen (aka Fitzy) welcome back!!!!
  • Well yesterday's fast was a bust. Did great until dinner and then 2 beers was all it took. I'm trying for another fast today, despite hating back to backs. But I'm subbing so will be kept super busy and out of trouble. The afternoon will be spent shlepping kids around, so unless I want to start eating the crumbs off the…
  • Monday and Thursday are my planned fast days this week. I loosely tracked over the weekend, but after going back to doing what I did before, I'm convinced about what I need to do. The Hawaii weight came off. I'm SUPPOSED to start my cycle, which always results in a loss, however, it's becoming a little more unpredictable.…
  • Meg...way to go!! Any loss is a win!!
  • Thanks, Mama and Meg!! It was helpful to reflect back on how it worked for me. That seems to be the theme of this week, thanks to Flumi for starting it :* Second fast logged and a success. I'm having a great week and it just feels good. I have felt like I've been floundering, so having a little more focus and control is…
  • Second fast today! I have to say, being in control and going back to basics feels really good. Just that slight shift on focus has made a huge difference! To the new kids...I've been at this almost 3 years. I can't say the 40-something weight loss happened quickly. For me, it was relatively steady albeit not linear. Some…
  • Kate, glad you hear you're back on track. Sometimes it takes just getting fed up one day. My motivation has waxed and waned lately, but yesterday I decided to just focus on the small changes I made to successfully lose weight in the beginning. For me, not really looking at the problem as a whole and focusing on the details…
  • Wow, Flumi, what a complete transformation!!! I think it is vital to go back and look at how much you've changed because our minds do play tricks on us. As you mentioned, seeing yourself as smaller/bigger when the opposite is true really shows how much it happens. Losing weight is hard enough, but I find the real struggle…
  • Planning my 3rd fast for today, then I'll weigh myself hoping the detriments of my trip were temporary. Like sanjo, I've been doing 5:2 for a few years. My lab results have also been favorable. I see my endocrinologist next week and we will see if my cholesterol and hormones continue to stay in check. I'm 47 and I may be…
  • I agree with Bender. Meg, I would add that that the nutrition education of physicians is minimal. I have a friend who is a pediatrician who still recommends low carb as her blanket nutrition advice!! One size does not fit all, for sure. I have found that EVERYONE is an e pert in diet. I keep what I do to myself to avoid…
  • Sounds like the challenges of the holidays are well upon us. It almost feels like the Hinger Games...haha, pun totally intended! Hawaii was MOST unkind to me. Let's say I feel "fluffy" at the moment. It was such a food-centric trip (my mom and sister are obsessed with food and the perfect meal), I don't think I ever really…
  • Just wanting to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!! Hawaii has been awesome, but very unkind to my waistline. I'm enjoying myself in every way, but am plotting a return to more focus to get back on track when I get home! Cheers!!
  • Had a textbook FD wed and after stepping on the scale Thursday, it looks like I'm not all that off on my weight. I am planning to fast today, despite preferring 2 days in between FD. I leave tomorrow, and while traveling may present the opportunity to fast, I'll be traveling with my mom who is a bit obsessed with where and…
  • Hi everyone!! Glad to see all of you are still doing well, despite the usual "life" hurdles. I'm still fasting twice a week, which is now just a habit. I can't say I've successfully stuck to 500-600 cals on my fast days and while I've basically still kept the weight off, I've noticed a few extra pounds snuck by and I'm not…
  • I've been away for a bit. Still fasting, but just going through the motions. Like many, my motivation is running on low. My original "why" was seeing myself on stage and looking like a cow, even though I was playing a mom. Ballet is my passion and I found the motivation in my desire to look good on stage. Then, my WHY…
  • Thanks for starting the new week, Kate. I don't think Flumi cares and she's away for a bit, if I remember correctly. Mama, I LOVE an unexpected fast day, although it can screw up my week a bit. But still...I think it's a win when that happens! I had a textbook FD yesterday. We will see if I can do the same on Thursday and…
  • Sanjo, it's SO hard when you have an omni family. I think when you've decided to go plant-based, you want to impart the same benefits to the rest of your family. But if you're met with resistance, you feel like a short-order cook. I think my kids are younger than yours. I am a veggie-smuggler (picture a pirate holding a…
  • Mama, I feel your pain and struggle with the same thing. My motivation skyrockets when I'm losing and in control. But at some point, one has to stop losing weight. I do think it means you are a goal-oriented person. Weight loss, for me, has been looked at as a "project" that I've had for so long. I've been working on it my…
  • Did I just see a tumbleweed roll by?? This forum became a ghost town :p I am on track for 3 FD this week. Yesterday, I didn't feel like eating and dance class was right in the middle of the day. So I stuck it out until dinner. Today was supposed to be a FD, but I may wind up having lunch with my husband. Tomorrow is…
  • Yesterday's planned FD was a no-go. When your 15 year old son asks you out to lunch, you take that opportunity. Those of you with teenagers understand ;) . I'll make today count and hope whatever pizza-related dinner (it is Friday, after all) clock in around 500 cals. The hunger I was feeling before seems more stable now…
  • I do fast on vacation if it works out. I am usually able to at least one FD just because we tend to be on the go and doing things. So the busyness helps. If our vacations were about lounging and relaxing, it wouldn't work. It helps minimize whatever damage may occur ;)
