Who cares, Kate! A loss is a loss and I say congrats!!! A loss like that will keep you motivated so that it will all balance out in the end. Way to go!!

I'm vegan and almost 50 ;)

Well summer break has simply been that...a break. We've had 2 vacations back-to-back and I am glad to be home!!! Back to a routine for sure. Fasting has been spotty. Lots of eating out and not at any particular time, so while the spontaneity of vacationing has been fun, I'm definitely happy to be back to a regular way of…

Today is my first FD of the week, too. I had my performance last week, which went really well. After 3 years, I've noticed that rehearsals tend to be crazy and all over the place. But when it comes down to showtime, it all works out. I'm back in "mom" mode and am cooking again. We will be entering a hot spell, too, Dry…

Wow...sounds like you guys are off to a great week. Way to go Flumi, Snaps, and Kate!!! I'm knee deep in ballet rehearsals! I've realized that when I start dreaming with music as my background, things are coming together. What started off as a hot mess is starting to gel. 4 more rehearsals to go! Flumi, I'm going to follow…

Hang in there, Kate!! Sometimes, you have to take a break. As long as you come back, you'll be ok. The last thing you want to do is see it as a catastrophic failure and undo all of your efforts. As you said, you are down 5 lbs and that is definitely an accomplishment. Heck, staying the same weight is an accomplishment. I…

Flumi, dancing has never been as important to me as it is now!!! I am clinging to it like a life boat just because it gives me a vacation from my head. Oh and it's a killer workout. :) I had an unexpected fast day Thursday rather than Friday. Long story short, I had to go to an all day doctor appt with my mom and eating…

Thanks, Mama. I know we are both having struggles with aging parents! Keep up your sense of humor. I'm relying heavily on it, even if it gets a little dark sometimes (my husband has a wicked sense of humor). Julie, thank you for your encouragement. I think I may be hooked. I'm not doing much...10-15 minutes at this point.…

Had a very successful fast yesterday!! I made turkey sloppy joes for my family and I had sloppy buffalo kidney beans with a salad. Most people think if you are vegan and just eating plants and carbs, you are hungry all the time. I've actually found the opposite to be true! Mama, I've considered using some of my vegan…

Nice pics, Flumi! Perhaps photography is an option if you choose to quit your day job :) . Glad you are javing a good week. You sounded "low" the last week. Glad things are on a positive trend!!

I've got my FD planned for today and Friday. Nothing much going on. Just anxiously waiting for school to end!! I used to dread it because of all the time I had to fill with keeping kids busy (you get tired of hearing "I'm bored"), but I drive them around so much, I'm looking forward to a break from all the rushing around!!…

Ok, Mama, I just did some strength training. Tomorrow, if I'm sore and your ears start burning, that would be me shouting your name!!! And, in addition, there might be some colorful language. But it will be meant with gratitude

Thanks, Kate. It's so hard to get to that place. When you've spent most of your life trying to get to a number, it's hard to let it go. I agree with you, though. Why attempt to get to a number that is unattainable, beat yourself over it, and feel like a failure when, really, the fact that one has lost the weight is a total…

Hi everyone!! Had a pretty successful fast Monday, looking forward to another one tomorrow. I think I've hit the realization that my body wants to stay within the 140-145 lb range. No matter how hard I try, it won't budge lower. I'm going to quit focusing on weight loss and direct my efforts to maintenance. It seems to me…

Ladies, glad to see both of you. I'm sorry you've had a rough week, but it sounds like you are back on track. My first post didn't completely show up. Bummer! Essentially, I've had my own challenges and it's been rough. While I'm still fasting, I'm finding it really, REALLY difficult to stick to 500 cals and wind up…

Meg and Mama, just when you think you've got this whole weight loss/fasting thing down to a science, life throws you a curve ball and you go back to old habits. At least that's what I do!! I had a rather "meh" week last week and today is an extension of that. I hate that feeling of being a fish out of water when you feel…

Mama, I don't eat back my exercise cals on FD. I do on non FD. I did increase my non FD cals a bit as they have gone down as I've lost. I basically exercise everyday, some days more than others. But I guess you could add your exercise cals to your FD cals (so 500 plus exercise cals). I hadn't considered that. I may explore…

Good luck, Geoff!! Keep cycling and you'll do fine. We will look forward to hearing from you when you get back!

Looks like a fun time, Flumi!! Had my first fast Monday which, by 5:00, spiraled a little out of control. So managed to do another one yesterday. I'm not a fan of back-to-back fasts because it's so hard, but managed it ok. I'm going to try bumping up my cals to 700 on FD to see if it helps me reach my goal. I'm finding it…

I'm not wondering if bumping up the calories to 700 on a FD wouldn't be a good maintenance tactic. I'm a little afraid of what will happen if I go to a 6:1 schedule. I do like having 2 FD a week because, as depressing as this may sound, I think that weight loss needs to be in the forefront of our minds. I know I will…

Congrats, Flumi! What a wonderful way to spend the day!! Julie, it is sooo frustrating to not be able to exercise when you want to. I wish a painless surgery and a speedy recovery. On another note, I don't know about my friends from outside of the United States, but has anyone else been paying attention to the buzz about…

BTW, some cheez is soy based, some are nut based.
-
Haha, Mama!! Yes, it sounds like an oxymoron. There are many different types of vegan cheez, my favorite being Daiya brand. But there is a pretty awesome recipe for "cheese" using boiled potatoes and carrots (along with some other ingredients) that looks like velveeta. Of course, it doesn't truly replicate cheese, but it's…

Great fast today! Had an awesome ballet class and a great 500 cal meal of a chickpea salad with avocado ranch dressing (all vegan). I've been grilling veggies on the BBQ as a preemptive strike for lunches. Having them on hand for a veggie panini with some melted daiya cheez (when you see cheese spelled as cheez, you know…

Looking forward to my first successful FD on the week. I'm not sure what I'll be making for dinner, but I'm determined to stick to my 500 cals. I just got my costume for our ballet recital and it fit!!! No alterations needed at all. I'm going to keep it that way!!

Thanks, Julie, for the reference. I'm with Flumi...self-sabotage seems to be an appropriate word to describe what I've been doing lately. Keep us posted and I may read it and do the same!
-
Haha...too funny. You never know!! The vegan community can be very creative (chickpea brine made into meringue, anyone?), so I wasn't sure. Perhaps you're on to something, though. Popcorn repurposed into a crouton mixed with avo and other veggies? Hmmm...
-
Sanjo, what is popcorn salad with avocado?!? I'm intrigued and always looking for new things to try!

Welcome, Reader, and of course you may join in! Congrats on your weight loss and maintenance success!! A few of us are near the maintenance phase, so any advice or suggestions would be welcome!

Well, after vigilantly monitoring my BP, I've discovered it is maybe slightly high (borderline), but certainly not anything to be alarmed about. I will admit some of the posts I read on the 5:2 forums had me scared. I did eliminate my daily Diet Pepsi, which typically gets me through my fast days. It actually hasn't made…
