We "bread" in either almond meal, almond meal with parmesan/romano/asiago and garlic... salt/pepper and paprika. I generally dip meat into scrambled egg then into the "breading" and place into heated lard to fry in a dutch oven (to minimize splatter). We've found it quite good for frying chicken livers and quartered…

Are you eating low carb? This article talks about urine ketone testing: http://ketopia.com/why-you-need-to-stop-worrying-about-the-color-of-your-ketostix/ Essentially, after a period of several weeks of being in ketosis, one may only see urine ketones if one is not burning them for fuel... so sometimes one person might see…

Some passages from The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living by Dr. Stephen Phinney and Dr. Jeff Volek: "High carbohydrate diets make the kidneys retain salt, whereas a low carbohydrate intake increases sodium excretion by the kidney (called 'the natriuresis of fasting')." "3. Third, the body's metabolism of salt is…

I've read some mix whey protein into Greek yogurt and add berries. I've also seen some make protein powder pancakes, though I'm not sure what you'd replace the eggs with - maybe cream cheese?

The reason I suggested hardcore-type induction is to put you into ketosis faster so you can better control cravings. I wouldn't eat a thing other than meat, eggs, fat and 4 oz cheese if I had binging issues just so I can get over said issues to have a fighting chance. I didn't allow myself any 'treats' for several months.…

Not everyone gets keto flu. Other than testing, there's no real way to know for sure how deeply into ketosis you are, but bad breath, distinct-smelling urine or changes in body odor can all be signs. If you're drinking a lot of water, this can help minimize (or mask) those. KetoStix aren't an accurate indicator for…

A little late for that. The seeds of "fad" have been sown.
-
You and me both, though the official tar name is more like "silly, extreme fad-following misfit." Or something equally irrelevant, inaccurate and insulting.
-
Yes, when people call other people's WOE a 'fad" when it isn't, that's counter-productive to conversation. But this is OT. I emailed the OP directly because I anticipated this type of crazy bias, as per the usual. She indicated she would be sticking with carbs and sugar - so I left it at that because I respect her decision…

One man/woman's "fad" is another man/woman's WOE.

I understand. At least you have a course of action now. Just don't change anything too soon or you may wind up chasing your tail trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. Again: Hang in there! :)

There's only a really big loss when you have a lot to lose. As you're closer to goal weight, this number is less. I think the range is something like 5-10% of your original body weight, but again, I would think since you have less to lose that the number would be smaller. Glycogen is lost and along with it, water.…

Atkins would have you limit your cheese to 4 oz a day. Likewise, some people stall on dairy (like sour cream and heavy whipping cream). If you don't have losses after the aforementioned reasonable period of time, you might want to try cycling those foods out to see if it makes a difference. Unfortunately, some people might…

A lot of people have their scale weight loss pause after 2-3 weeks. Start measuring your body: Neck, chest, waist, hips, upper arms, wrist, thigh and calf. Stay the course. A pause doesn't become a stall until several weeks of no scale weight loss and no measurement decreases (many think 'several weeks' means 4-6 weeks). I…

Hi :) Okay, there's a lot here. I will try to give you answers to the best of my ability and knowledge, but admittedly, I think I was 5'2" once, in like my freshman year of high school. Same with the 140 pounds, let alone the 125. I was 135 and my current 5'5" not 9 years ago, but wasn't doing keto then. :) My answers will…

Yikes! If it's true, we are truly in trouble! Be afraid, be very afraid.

Congratulations kkimpel! WTG! You're in the home stretch! FWIW, I have calculations and instructions on how to calculate macros on my blog's first post if you need it here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/PatchEFog

Hi :) I just assisted someone with this here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1433429-profile-help Hopefully, this will help answer some of your questions or someone else might chime in (especially since I am not the end-all-be-all embodiment of all answers).

I agree. Add more cheese, and depending on where you are with your goals/macros, more butter. Mmmmm butter (or ghee/clarified/drawn butter if you're really closely clamping down on those carbs).... Also... more about eggs... From the I Breathe I'm Hungry Blog...…

You're welcome. :) There are carbs in spices. One needs to be especially careful of spice blends since carby ingredients might be added like sugar or maltodextrin for bulk. Because of the labeling guidelines, they don't have to divulge partial carb counts per servings, and of course, they set their own serving sizes. Here…

This. And sodium if there is no medical contraindication. 3000 mg to 5000 mg a day. 1-2 cups of (non low-sodium) broth a day is usually enough to help get your sodium up there.

This is very individual, and depends on what your goals are as well as what your definition of "low carb" really is. First, figure out how much protein you want to eat in terms of grams. There are a number of calculators out there to help you figure it out, but for general principles, starting somewhere in the range of 1…

Have you been measuring your body parts as well? I have had weeks where the scale does not move but my measurements are down. Dr. Atkins had stated a stall isn't a stall unless there was no weight lost and no decrease in measurements for 'several weeks'. I've seen people say that this is more like 4-6 weeks before it's a…

Along with drinking water, be sure to get your sodium. 3000-5000 mg a day (unless contraindicated for a medical condition).

I wouldn't limit calories initially. I wouldn't even track calories initially for the first 2-3 weeks, but I would do hard core type of induction a la Atkins '72 (total carbs, not net) with only meat, fat, eggs an up to 4 oz hard cheese only. Then after I am stable with no hunger issues, I would begin tracking the calories…

OP: You've got mail.

Not necessarily so for everyone. One can be too far into ketosis for optimal fat burning. When I first got my Ketonix Sport, everything I was blowing was in the high yellow blink range. To get things down to the green range, I ended up adding up to 47 carbs on my feeding days (alternating 3 days/week fasting), to get it…

I've had my Ketonix Sport since 8/1/14, and have found it to be invaluable. This last week, I've been trying to become more ketotic again so I can test the red color range against blood ketone. I've already finished my correlation for the green and yellow ranges. Just last evening, another gentleman put in his first blog…
