  • Thanks, Dan. :)
  • Glucose excess in many seems to result in obesity and diabetes. Funny how the OP isn't worried about that. LOL
  • Hi :) I'm baconslave's friend. I've been doing JUDDD (or really alternate day fasting akin to JUDDD) along with keto since 3/25 of this year. I've lost 66.6 pound altogether. I didn't buy the Johnson book, but my understanding is that it was helpful. There's so much information out there that I didn't bother. Also, Dr.…
  • You might want to consider posting to the low carb and keto boards here on MFP. :) Meanwhile, many options exist: Eggs bacon ham sausage steak spinach cheese mushrooms broccoli cauliflower Pretty much anything you eat for dinner you can eat for breakfast I personally have a green chile/cheese and egg bake scheduled for…
  • There's a lot of debate about calories on keto and recommended protein versus optimal protein. Dr. Ron Rosedale doesn't think we need as much protein after we are keto-adapted, so his formula is: 1 gm per kg ideal body weight minus 10% There's also a lot of debate about life expectancy with reduced calories and reduced…

  • 1 gm carb = 4 calories 1 gm protein = 4 calories 1 gm fat = 9 caloriies 20 gm carb x 4 = 80 calories from carb 77 gm protein x 4 = 308 calories from protein The remainder is fat Starting at 1200 calories: 1200 - 80 - 308 = 812 calories from fat 812 calories from fat divided by 9 = 90.2 grams of fat 80 x 100 divided by 1200…
  • Blah SMH Anything to make a buck, I guess.
  • You might want to look into something like this silicon mold. It makes things easier when making fat bombs: http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=AF414343-1E0B-C910-EAF4100780D53DC6
  • I increased my carbs to between 23 and 25 a day average or I am not in the 1.5-3.0 mmol/l "optimal" range for fat burning as defined by Phinney and Volek. At below this level of carbs, I was quite high. Though I do not possess diabetes, I have been losing well in this range, though I am sure this is a variable thing by…
  • I would encourage you to pursue a ketogenic way of eating. My father has diabetes, but has eliminated his metformin altogether in the last two months. His blood glucose levels have been essentially normal. He has applied some of the principles from Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. He's 83 years old.
  • Way to go!!! YAY!!! Hey? Whatever helps motivate you! That's not 'cheating' in my book! :) Keep up the good work!
  • Exactly. I added carbs back in because I was overly ketogenic (>4.0 mmol/l blood), and it was difficult eating. Adding a few ore carbs (I was eating about 8 grams a day), it helped re-ignite my hunger cues that were obliterated by the ketosis (not that it's a bad thing, only if you can't get your food in from disinterest).…
  • It depends on your goals, but I would add some carbs back in.... maybe a la Atkins OWL I found I'm still in the 2.2 ish equivalent range of beta-hydroxybutyrate at nearly 25 gm carb a day average (I fast 3 days a week, so really like 45 gm carb on each of my 4 feeding days.) I find that adding this level of carbs back in…
  • Hello and welcome :) http://i.imgur.com/2YC0vbn.gif :flowerforyou: I've sent you a friend request and some email. :)
  • This depends on the WOE and eating plan. Low carb for the sake of eliminating carbohydrates that you may be sensitive to is a WOE unto itself. Many of the low carb plans start by going into ketosis to help drop water weight and provide relief from hunger during initial stages. Ketosis in and of itself has many benefits,…
  • I am unable to eat coconut oil after 4pm without it effecting my sleep. I only consume 1 Tbs every other day (on my feeding days) because otherwise my ketosis is too high on my feeding days. For me, the coconut oil has been an instant appetite killer and major satisfier.
  • Technically, Kevlar is a brand name too. LOL We've been seriously considering a Dexter cow and a few pigs.
  • I hear you about your body not doing what it's supposed to do. *sigh* Personally, I knew at 135 I was athletic and as low in weight as I dared to be. Doing keto and many years later, this may not be possible (my older age as well as keto making our muscles/bones generally 'denser"), but I have set my goal weight to that…
  • 1669 104gm fat 134 gm protein 34 gm carb 1669 56.08%fat 32.12% protein 8.15% carb Fat should probably be around 65%-85% for a start. Protein calculations vary widely: Rosedale Formula 1 x kg ideal body weight – 10% = gm protein (roughly 50 gm/day) Phinney/Volek Formula 0.6 x kg lbm = gm protein Mark's Daily Apple Primal…
  • There was a time in the not-so-distant past when I averaged that number of carbs - a day. So not necessarily 'low' to some. Whatever works! :)
  • I'm not sure as no reason is given. But since Westman's diet is essentially Atkins 2002, and Dr. Atkins also said to limit olives. My best guess is because you can easily over-eat olives. It's true that 0.75 carbs is low for 4 olives, but a lot of people can't stop at that few.
  • I personally take the nutrition data on the package as meaning for the "raw" product unless otherwise stated (since cooking may alter it significantly). I also double check my values at nutritiondata.self.com and/or www.calorieking.com and/or fatsecret.com or sparkpeople.com. I do this to be sure my thought process and…
  • There are 9 calories in a fat gram. There are 4 calories in a protein gram. There are 4 calories in a carbohydrate gram. 30 calories 3 gm fat = 3 x 9 = 27 calories from fat 3 calories remain, they are likely carb since olives do not have protein (or if they do it is truly negligible) 4 calories in 1 carb, therefore 0.75…
