  • I'm a clinical (hospital) pharmacist that specialises in mental health. I work in a psychiatric hospital with inpatients and outpatients to help them get the most from their medicines. I love my job, but as with most areas of public healthcare I am very thinly spread- would love to be able to do more hours with inpatients.…
  • In theory you are doing everything correctly- high protein healthy breakfast, Did you ever try porridge/oatmeal made with almond milk? I find it keeps me full for a long time compared to other breakfasts. You could have an egg too if you want to keep the protein up. Whatever I do I need a mid morning snack as I'm fairly…
  • I do drink small amounts occasionally (One glass of wine, two bottles beer once a week) but I find I lose my willpower to eat healthily when I drink more than that so it's a double whammy of calories - alcohol plus the snacks. When I'm really focussed on losing weight I cut it out altogether for a while.
  • As long as you are in a calorie deficit you will lose weight. However, if you are female two bottles of wine over one weekend is classified as "binge drinking" in the U.K. (And probably other countries). It comes with significant health risks so maybe cut back a bit for those reasons. Also You won't have many calories left…
  • Congratulations- that's a fantastic time. Well done- celebrate tonight
  • Sunday Day 26. Happy Mother's Day (uk and Ireland). Luckily my boys didn't buy me chocolates as I'm hopeless at eating just one or two. Off for a run in the sunshine in a few mins. Have a great day.
  • 30 day shred is a good all round exercise routine but it doesn't burn that many calories per session. I did it on alternate days and went running or walking on my days off. Also did at least 10k steps walking every day too. I have never had a 6 pack stomach but I did see a general improvement in my fitness and overall…
  • I disagree. Whether you jog or walk 3 miles you will burn the same number of calories for that workout. You are moving a mass over a distance if you want to apply the laws of physics. If you run for 30mins compared to walking for 30mins the running will burn more calories as you are travelling further in that time. So to…
  • I have ginger tea in the evening. It doesn't go with biscuits or chocolate so it keeps my snacking to a minimum.
  • I'd log it as circuit training but don't include the cool down/warm up time. So for one hour maybe log 50 mins circuits.
  • I log it as cross trainer under the cardio section. I burn about 250 cals in 30 mins (I'm 156 lb female 5 ft 7.). The MFP cals usually match the cross ramp readout.
  • Thursday Day 23. Non scale victory for me yesterday-my tracksuit trousers started falling down when I ran! I treated myself to a smart smaller pair. Scale not going down much so it's nice to see these little improvements. Have a lovely day everyone.
  • It's a DVD of exercises by Jillian Michaels. It's available free on YouTube if you want to have a go. It mixes cardio with strength and abs work. 20 mins per session with 3 levels of difficulty.
  • I've done the 30 day shred series a couple of times. In my humble opinion it's too intense to do every single day, particularly if you are not a regular gym goer. I do alternate days to give myself some recovery time, I do ten of each session so it takes 60 days to complete the cycle. I run or walk on my days "off".
  • Loads of great advice here - just wanted to say good luck with your race. Arrive early, use the toilet early and don't line up at the front of the field of runners. They may have markers or pacers for your possible finish time so look out for that. I run 10k in around 1 hour 15 mins so I start at the back just in front of…
  • Day 20 - Monday. Logged every bite today. Not working so didn't get my step goal but did lots of cleaning in the house instead. How are you all doing? Into week 3 now.
  • Have you set up your Fitbit app and mfp with your correct height and weight? I've done 8k steps today and it's added around 250 cals (female, weight 158 lbs). If you are a heavy male your calories could be correct.
  • I'm 42 and weigh 158lbs at 5ft 7in. I do exercise regularly. I'd recommend leaving one or two days between each session of 30 day shred as you will have muscle soreness after the first few sessions. Also, wear proper trainers/running shoes when doing the workout- this will reduce the jolting on your knees etc.
  • Sunday Day 19. I've survived the St Patrick's long weekend with minimal damage. Couldn't log fully on Saturday as we ate at a friends house. Only one glass of wine though and had small portions of each course. Back to full logging today. Keep up the great work guys.
  • The tea counts towards your fluids. Generally coffee wouldn't count much towards your daily water as it can dehydrate you but other drinks like tea, fruit squash etc do. Your urine is the best guide- if it is pale in colour you are getting enough fluid.
  • Day 16 Thursday. Still logging, had a rest day for exercise today but still managed 10k steps and some stretches/sit ups. Looking forward to St Patrick's day tomorrow.
  • I love "builders" tea too- called English Breakfast tea outside U.K. If I'm going herbal I love Pukka brand teas, their ginger tea is delicious.

  • Day 15- busy day with work yesterday- managed to get out for a walk in the morning. Logged all my food, bit heavy on the snacks, oops!
  • Day 14 Tuesday. I'm seeing my scale going down which is VERY encouraging. Also my rosacea seems to be under control so I'm seeing results there too. Glorious sunny day here in Ireland, stay safe those of you in the snow storms in USA.
  • Day 13 Monday. Took the kids for ice cream yesterday and "accidentally" ate one too. Did log it though. Looking forward to a week of healthy eating. Couch to 5k run planned for lunchtime. Have a good week everyone.
  • Day 12 Sunday. One glass of red wine for me last night. Was very tempted to have a second but managed to distract myself. I find I eat more if I drink alcohol so it's a double bad choice!
  • Day 11. I'm up early to eat my "power porridge" before I go to my local Parkrun 5k. Nothing too special about the porridge- oats with raisins and cinnamon, cooked with almond milk and topped with soya cream and maple syrup. Like a cake but healthier!
  • Try some YouTube videos- I like the 30 day shred, it's a mix of cardio and strength, but there are thousands of different options.
  • 9 months on, 9 months off! Congratulations on your twins. You've enough going on to be worrying about your weight at the moment. Eat plenty, eat healthily and take lots of walks with your babies. When they are 9 months old take stock and start working on any excess weight then if you need to.
  • Day 10- what is poutine? I presume it's not the same as "poteen" which is Irish moonshine/alcoholic drink made from potatoes!
