When I run I get running injuries. When I do taekwondo I get taekwondo injuries. Any high impact sport has a risk of injuries. Walking has a lower risk of injury but it doesn't burn as many calories and doesn't give such a good "after glow" IMHO.

I watch a quiz show on TV. I also do intervals on the elliptical (incline and difficulty) to mix it up a bit.

I always sign up for a running race a few months ahead. Then if I don't train this week I know I will suffer when race day comes along. My next race is a 10k in March. After that it's a hilly 6k in June, then an 8k in August. I don't "race" these, I just try to finish comfortably with not too much walking.

I'm going to win the "bad mother" award here but I get my two kids to watch a DVDs or play a computer game while I do a short workout in the hall. If you have enough space for a yoga mat you can do 30 day shred in that space. YouTube has the videos and millions of others.

Walking regularly is perfect to start with. Do ten mins most days then build up slowly to 30 mins. If you like DVDs to do at home Leslie Sansone walking programmes are brilliant. They are on YouTube too. It's walking in place with a few extra moves (kicks etc). There are lots of different levels so start easy and gradually…

Hi, you can add me if you like. I enjoy running, dancing and aerobics. Am currently trying to lose around 14 pounds to get back to a comfortable weight for running and clothes fitting.

I'm a pharmacist. Just for the record- that dose of ibuprofen is way higher than the recommended dose for adults (normally 400mg three times a day). Don't take that dose without a doctors prescription (and even then I would question it).

Some of my local half marathons have an accompanying 10k. Worth a look!

I'd like to see the science to prove that one! Green tea (or any tea) won't help with weight loss. Eating less calories than you burn in a day will.
-
I would log it as circuit training. You get a good calorie burn with kettlebells compared to weight lifting as you are also incorporating cardio. I suggest getting a heavier kettlebell though. I started with 6kg (about 14lb) and moved to 8kg after first class (about 20lb). In the class I go to we would use between 8kg and…

Hi, have sent you a friend request. Am a keen Fitbit user - love running but am slow. Am trying to lose a stone to get to a more comfortable running weight.

It is possible to drink too much water. A girl in the UK died of water overload after drinking litres and litres at a party where she took ecstasy. (Is was the water that killed her). Also I have heard of long distance runners becoming ill from drinking too much water during marathons. 2 litres a day is ok for most people.…

And don't forget the argument about how to pronounce scone - is it "scon" to rhyme with gone or "scown " to rhyme with own. I'm a softy southerner (UK) so I say the second version. And I weigh 10 stone not 140 pounds on a good day.
-
It sounds like a reasonable plan to me. You don't have to wait until you reach goal to begin weight training though- why not do some now at the end of your walking session- eg 45 mins walk then 15 mins weights.
-
I park ten minutes away from my workplace and my kids school. Without doing anything extra that gives me a reasonable amount of walking 5 days a week. (40 mins per day). I would also suggest gardening, house painting, dance class as other options for you. Or just grit your teeth and get on with it!
-
You think that I should first focus on reaching an adequate weight and BMI first? I would start your training now. If you eat healthily and start swim/bike/run training you should see the weight come off anyway.
-
Are you eating back all your exercise calories? (Try to only eat back half). Weigh everything. Log every single thing eg butter on bread, milk in tea, oil in cooking.
-
This sounds like a fantastic goal for the year. Great advice above. I would recommend entering a 10k or half marathon before the marathon. It will give you a feel for walking in a timed event with other people. How to deal with toilet break and eating drinking en route. Enjoy the build up and the race:)
-
How long is the video? One option is to not log it at all but enjoy the bonus weight loss and wellbeing you will get from doing the DVD. If it was 75 Cals and you eat back half the calories (as is sometimes recommended) you will only be eating an extra half an apple anyway. Keep up the good work!

It's definitely worth doing, even just for a few days. It helps you see which choices are healthy/unhealthy and where bad habits creep in. For me it's the number of snacks- those 100 calorie snacks do add up when you have 4 in a day!
-
I think less. Unless you are doing a lot of extra walking there isn't much diffference between standing still and sitting (apart from sore feet).
-
Check out YouTube for some fitness videos. You can do them while your baby naps or watches you from the playpen. Plan small snacks at the start of the day then stick to that plan. If you feel bored find a hobby to do or come onto MFP for a boost!

I hardly ever use the treadmills as I prefer to run outside. I find it so easy to press the STOP button, whereas outside I have to keep running to get home or to the car. I am normally a helpful person- I will go back to sexy pants instead of judgey pants!

Congratulations on your new arrivals. I have two boys, now school age. I find exercise DVDs (or you tube) are my saviour. If you can squeeze in a 20 min workout while they nap or watch TV you are onto a winner. Kettle bells are brill for short but effective workouts too. Also long walks with buggy are great. Good luck.

I am being a bit judgemental I suppose. But I was just thinking of those ladies going onto MFP and logging their 300 Cals of exercise and eating back those calories. Then in a month it's all "I don't know why I'm losing weight!" Will mind my own business next time but it made me smile to see the row of them all at the same…

Hello! It's much easier to keep going when you have support. Add me as a friend on MFP and we could try to motivate each other. New year, new us!

Lunch break exercise is my secret weapon! I have time between finishing work at 12.30 and collecting kids at 2.30. I have to eat during that time but if I plan ahead and have correct food and clothes it can be done.

I live in Ireland - it's full of "Mrs Doyle" types- go on, go on, go on, go on..., just say NO!

That thread is wonderful - thanks for posting the link.
