I think carbohydrates are good before a workout, like bananas, wholegrain pasta etc. For after a workout, I have heard that protein is good to eat as it helps repair muscles, so lean meats, eggs etc. :)

Hiiiiiii!! I am also fairly new to this. 1,200 calories will stretch as far as you let them :) Its all about the right choices! Good luck and keep us posted!
