Instead of being passive aggressive, just be honest.....

Maybe you could make a healthier dessert for the family before she gets a chance to make something else. Or just keep politely declining ("Oh, thanks mom, it looks delicious, but I had a big piece of cake last week and am really trying to stick to my eating plan right now").

Good for you for figuring out what you need to stay motivated with your exercising! Unfortunately, even with modifications, 30DS is going to be really hard on your knees. Even people w/o previous knee trouble complain about their knees after this workout. You might want to look into other options. -LP

Wasting a few bucks for "unusable leftovers" is nothing compared to how much you'll spend in the future taking care of an overweight and unhealthy body. It's hard but it's for your health and your future, which are priceless.

This is my question also.

Something that has worked for me is to schedule exercise. I used to actually schedule half-hour workouts and write them on my calendar just like I would any appointment. Make a realistic plan, though; maybe schedule 3 half-hours a week to start. And I used to tell people things like "I'm going to exercise at 3:00…

I need to get pants about 2 sizes larger than my waist b/c of my hips and thighs. It's frustrating, has gotten worse since I lost weight, and I just pretty much HATE shopping for pants. Good luck!

Yeah, shopping is the worst....I had always figured that when I lost weight, shopping would suddenly be for me like I thought it was "supposed" to be for women (everything just looks so great, it's hard to spend less than a million dollars in each store, or something), but it's actually gotten worse, I think. I need a…

Here's what I have done in similar situations in the past (I'm sure some or all have already been mentioned, but don't want to read 3 pages of posts...): - Bring something to add to the goody table (whether or not you eat it yourself), maybe on a somewhat regular basis - Lie and say you've already have your treat for the…

If it's an option for you, maybe look into a couple of sessions with a personal trainer. I create my own strength routines now, based on past ones that trainers designed for me. Plus, it's nice to have someone check your form and verify that your weights aren't too heavy/light, etc. as you're learning new exercises.

If it's not common sense, pretty much any one-size-fits-all weight loss "rule" is BS.

My husband and I were rough-housing (playing!) one day and I said (not seriously), "You're beating me to a pulp!" And he said (also not seriously), "Yes, that's all you are, a pulp. A little pulp!"

Not sure if this is an option or would help, but maybe you could ask to be weighed facing away from the scale and for your doctor not to read your weight aloud. Good luck!

I haven't tried this, but I'm pretty sure that one of the major drawbacks is that you eat only 500 calories.

Write it on your calendar. Tell a bunch of people things like "I'm going to workout at 5:00 on Tuesday. Ask me how it went when I see you Wednesday morning." Set realistic (for YOU) goals, like 20 minutes twice a week or something to start. The biggest thing for me, though, was really to plan it into my day, just like any…

I know plenty of people (including myself and my husband) who have included pork as part of their regular diet and lost a lot of weight. Just budget the calories and pay attention to sodium and stuff, and enjoy what you eat.

I only skimmed your post, so may have missed important information, but here is what I would try: taping up some strips of crepe paper across as many doorways as you pass through between your bedroom and the kitchen. You will run into the paper as a tactile reminder to STOP and/or at least be slightly more aware of what…

Being a member of a gym has played an integral role in my weight loss. I'm much more motivated when I workout at the gym versus on my own (especially in the cold, dark, snowy winter). There are a lots of options: various cardio machines, various weight machines, free weights and dumbbells, different classes. There are…

When I first started using MFP, my husband was a little jealous of the time I was spending on it. When I showed him what I was doing (mostly logging food and a few "nice workout!" messages), he just thought I wasn't spending my time wisely, but stopped bothering me about it. However, OP, I think that if I had your profile…

I'm 4'11 and was up to 196 pounds when I finally decided to change my lifestyle and get healthier. I've been between 130 and 140 pounds the past few years, and am still trying to get down to maybe 120 or so. I'm great at exercising, but unfortunately I'm also great at eating, so that's where my main struggle is. Feel free…

Wait until your regular weigh-in day. It's too easy to get crazy and scale-obsessed if you record your weight more than once a week (or once a month for some people).

My out-of-control eating is getting much better due to work that I'm doing with a therapist. We have discovered WHY I do that and are working through that issue. I have also started working with a dietician--not focusing on what I'm eating, but HOW. I'll always struggle with food, but for the first time I think that maybe…

On the elliptical I listen to audiobooks or engaging podcasts. Also, can you set the machine display so that it only displays your calories burned and not distance?

You're totally right. A compliment followed by "but" isn't much better than an apology followed by a "but." Thanks for pointing that out!

Yes, I deal with this too sometimes. Once in a while my husband just feels so good and proud of himself that he gets caught up in those feelings and kind of forgets that I may not be having the same experience at the moment. I've told him things like "I'm so glad you're doing so well, but it's a little bit hard for me to…

If you make your diary public, we can probably give you more helpful suggestions about what you could eat. I don't know what you eat, but if you're eating lots of "light" foods, you could replace them with the regular versions and if you're in the habit of just using a tiny bit of things like peanut butter or cheese, just…

(*I meant this as a response to the Victoria's Secret suggestion, but forgot to reply there.) The girl who was "helping" me at VS after I lost a bunch of weight didn't know what to do with my boobs. After I tried on several different styles, she ended up telling me that they didn't seem to have any that would work for me.…

Check out page 34 of Judy Blume's "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret."

Would it help to log your planned food on the day before? That way you can look forward to eating what you've already worked into your calorie allowance. For me, this strategy has worked well--even though I feel like I'm "giving in" to a craving, I'm actually just following the plan. Good luck--I can definitely relate to…

Me too. But now my current anxiety--which manifests in a variety of ways--seems to be largely due to the fact that (thanks to finally having found a fantastic therapist and being ready to get to the painful, below-the-surface issues) I've been making so much progress in pretty much all areas of my life and it's scary to…
