I'm 4'11 and lost 72.5 pounds a while back (I started at 195 or so). I've gained around 10, but have been able to maintain that weight for years now. I still struggle with food, but feel so much healthier and believe that at some point I will lose that 10 again. (I've been focusing on other things the past few years.)…

Bump because I want to have more healthy options available for nights that our dinner plan doesn't work out (or doesn't exist in the first place!). Things that we often make a lot of and freeze: turkey chili, whole grain waffles, chicken or turkey soup, veggie-filled spaghetti sauce.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing!

Maybe try to focus on the actions that will get you closer to your goal rather than on the goal itself? Sorry you're having a rough time; be assured that many of us have been there, too!

I just listened to the Nutrition Diva's podcast on organic food this morning. (You can read it at http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/health-fitness/healthy-eating/are-organic-foods-worth-cost?page=all.) Basically, she suggests avoiding the "dirty dozen" for pesticide reasons but not worrying about it aside from that. It's…

When this happens to me, I remind myself to just keep on keepin' on. The overall trend is what matters, not the specific day-to-day numbers. Just continue making healthy choices and the mirror/scale/measuring tape will eventually reflect them. What advice would you give your kid if s/he got disappointed over every little…

I was really excited when I misread the topic as "Snack talkers."

My husband often has an apple and either a cheese stick or some almonds on his way home from work.
-
Put PB on anything--apple slices, graham cracker, rice cake, wasa cracker, banana slices--and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Grill corn on the cob! It's the best.

It's not really a "recipe" but my recent favorite warm-weather meal: Spread guacamole (or just mashed avocado) on a Joseph's 60 cal pita, then layer on black beans, shredded lettuce, diced tomato, diced onion, diced bell pepper, corn, a little shredded cheese. Fold it over and eat like a taco. Actually, it basically is a…

Uh...salt water?

Some suggestions here: http://toadlite.wordpress.com/2008/04/15/going-out-for-mexican-food-tips-from-hungry-girl/

What's the big deal with labeling food that you want to make sure is saved for you? I live with only my husband and I label stuff with my name all the time. Also, I label food that I want HIM to eat. I wouldn't recommend throwing away your husband's "junk" food, as that's just immature and then you're kind of encouraging…

We like a 60 cal Joseph's pita for the crust, a layer of whatever sauce you want (pesto, red sauce, whatever), a layer of spinach, a layer of cheese (we use reduced fat shredded mexican), and lots of veggies and a little protein for toppings.
-
For making "pizza" at home, we use Jospeh's 60 calorie pitas for the crust, spread on pesto or red sauce, a layer of spinach, a layer of cheese, and then whatever toppings you want. Pretty low cal and healthy and depending on how many calories you have available, you might fit in two or three pizzas for your meal.

Taste. When I was looking for a place to make my wedding cake, I was so surprised that they were all so focused on looks. That is *so* not how I live my life.

Thanks for the implied suggestion to dig out some Minor Threat and Fugazi. I miss that stuff.

bump for ideas for hot weather dinners (We often have a grain salad and/or some sort of grilled protein, but I'm always looking for other ideas.)

I've lost around 70 pounds and still can't "feel" it. Some days I kind of can see it in the mirror, but I'm way more critical of my body now than I ever was before (maybe because I tended to avoid looking at myself then). I compare old and new pictures and try on my old pants if I need to be convinced/reminded of my…

Healthy choices lead to a healthier future. To me, that's always worth it.

You can use ground turkey in any recipe that calls for ground beef.
-
It sounds like maybe you're starting to do this already, but I have found it helpful to shift my focus to what *I* can DO rather than what I hope something else (an eating plan, an exercise regimen, a gadget, a food) will do or what I hope will happen someday. Realistic *action* goals that are directed and executed by YOU…

bumping for obvious reasons

Mashed-up avocado? Hummus?

Also, many people find that the less you have to lose, the longer it takes to lose each pound.

This doesn't necessarily help with learning portion control, but in order to still eat a lot of food but for not a lot of calories, I often look for ways to "bulk up" my meals. If I want cereal for breakfast, for example, I'll have one cup of puffed rice or puffed wheat (like 40 cals) mixed in with whatever "real' cereal I…

It depends on your definition of "healthy," but sometimes I use a wedge of laughing cow cheese where others might use cream cheese.

Great! Thanks for the help!

Excellent! Thanks, everyone! :)
