Cardio and weight lifting!

As everyone has said, you can't make her do anything she's not ready to do. Nagging often pushes people in the opposite direction. Instead, invite her to go on a short walk with you--no pressure, no guilt if she says no, no talk about weight or health, just a mother and a daughter spending time together on a lovely day. If…

This is what I've done in the past. Now I have a some spanx which serve the same purpose (and hold in my jiggly extra skin/fat a bit).

Great work with your weight loss! I don't have any solutions to offer, but I've definitely been there. I remember once my co-worker walked into my classroom asking me a question and then stopped mid-question, interrupting herself: "....and why on earth are you wearing that shirt? It's five sizes too big." She was so…

At my husband's office, they have an option of "standing work stations" or something. You could see if something like that is a possibility. Good luck!

Back when I was in college and going through my meeting-guys-from-online phase, I went out with an internet guy and afterwards, he sent me a random chat message saying that he didn't want to go out with me again. I replied "ok, no problem" and he added something like, "It's not because you're not fun, it's because your…

I have pretty much the same AM schedule, but lately I've been having the bulk of my AM calories before my workout and then just a quick protein snack (i.e., cheese stick, hard boiled egg, cottage cheese) afterwards. I'm interested to see what people suggest, though.

Don't worry if you need to take breaks during the workout (even if they are more than the "allowed" 5 seconds)--I've been working out for years and am relatively fit, but on day 8 of level 1, still need a couple of quick breaks in order to make it to the end. Also, Jillian does not stretch enough at the end. I would say…

It might be hard/scary/frustrating to realize that you actually do have the power to change your weight. So maybe by admitting that YOU (and not some external force) are in control of your weight loss now, you are also admitting that you were in control of your weight gain before. I don't think I explained that well, but…

Add a little bit of honey to this for extra sweetness. Yum!!

Yeah.....it's nice to see pictures of real women, but I know that I do NOT look like the ones who claim to be my same height, weight, and body shape. I guess it's a matter of distribution/composition....and I can't help but believe that my extra skin adds visual pounds to me too. (But I still like the site and might add my…

I have a particularly hard time after any period of time where I've allowed myself more freedom with my eating (which usually goes along with lack of exercise). One thing that helps me with cravings is to plan ahead as much as possible (I often log my intended food intake on the night before), so that I can "crave" what…

I lost my first 50 pounds while using the elliptical almost exclusively for cardio. Like you, I was intimidated by the treadmill; I thought walking couldn't get my heart rate up enough and I wasn't ready to run. Eventually, I started doing a few minutes of walking/jogging on the treadmill after my elliptical workout and am…

So maybe now I can stop pointing to random people in the street and saying to my husband, "Does my body look like hers?" Thanks for the site!

One of my recent favorites is an apple (granny smith is great) cut up and then sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar. I like to slice the apple and then cut each slice into 2 or 3 pieces and eat them with a toothpick because it takes longer to eat that way. Yum!

Just putting this in "my topics" to check out later. Recently I had Allrecipes' Easy Cheesy Zucchini bake, which I believe was pretty low carb (basically just meat, cheese, and zucchini) and super easy. Always on the lookout for low carb dinners! -LP

Instead of a diet, I think of this as being healthy. So, yeah, I hope and plan that it's for the rest of my life. -LP

I love butternut squash soup! Allrecipes.com has one called "Butternut Squash Soup II" that's quite tasty. Happy squashin'!

The strangest request I've ever gotten at work: "I don't want to walk. Can you just drag me?"

I want to read this when I have more time, as I've been struggling with my last 10-15 pounds for at least 2 years now.

Here's my thought: When you go sign up for a trainer, give them a specific list of the qualities you want in him/her. Give whoever they assign you a chance and then if it isn't working out, you can say "I specifically said that I wanted someone who would be able to xyz, and the trainer you gave me isn't doing that." It's a…

Don't lift so heavy that you sacrifice form. That's the main thing, I think..... If people have been watching you, they might see that your form is suffering and instead of telling you that, they're telling you how to fix it (lift lighter). Just a thought. Happy lifting! -LP

If you track your food and open your diary, we can check that out and give you suggestions about how you could alter your diet--some foods/calories will be more helpful toward weight loss than others. I also suggest that you take photographs and measurements because sometimes body composition changes when weight doesn't.…

After losing a lot of weight, I've "regressed" in other areas......(My therapist and) I have come to realize that I'm holding onto those regressions because it's too scary to just feel normal. Or something. Good luck on your loss to date, though. -LP

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but something that helps me is to keep chopped-up bell peppers and onions (seperately) in the freezer in freezer bags. So many recipes that I make call for these and it's easier for me to chop them up in advance and then get out as I need them. Also I suppose you could cut up chicken for a…

On Sundays I like to figure out what we'll be having for dinner each night of the week to come. I generally check what meat we have that needs to be used, or what's on sale, and then plan 2-3 meals around them, as with leftovers, that generally covers us for the week. If you want to cook ahead, most recipes are freezable.…

I've been dealing with a similar pain for a few years, though for me it was worse when walking and (strangely) not as bad when jogging/running. I think that my pain in (or near) my iliopsoas muscles. My doc referred me to physical therapy and I worked for a few months with a traditional PT and then for over a year with a…

After realizing you aren't talking about physical flexibility being the "ultimate key to success," I now totally agree with everything you wrote. In life, in general, being able to adjust to various circumstances (not necessarily "giving in" to them, though) is so, so important to overall well-being and prosperity. Thanks…
