  • yes, but it's stringy when you open it up (at least if it's cooked...I've never opened a raw one). We separate the strings a little with a fork before serving.

  • They were pretty easy for me because the lifestyle change was kind of drastic, and I had a bunch to lose.
  • The oral surgeon told me in January to schedule extraction at my convenience; I made the phone call two days ago...and made the appointment for August. I have the same issue as you do: I have fainted while at the doc's to get a shot, and the part about the wisdom teeth that I'm most nervous about is the first minute when…
  • Pick whatever protein you feel like having (and maybe a couple other ingredients you want to use) and search for recipes on sites like allrecipes.com and supercook.com.
  • Yes--a great and unexpected NSV!
  • Some good ideas so far. Thanks, everyone who shared!
  • Thanks for the responses! I'll check out the links. (And anyone else, feel free to add more ideas....)
  • I always thought that "conversate" was coined by some reality TV kids in a hot tub.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. My sister has suffered 5 miscarriages (6 babies) since she had her son 6 years ago. Each one is devastating and takes a toll on not just her body, but on nearly every area of the family's life. I haven't been there myself, but here is my advice: Be kind to yourself and, as I think you are,…
  • My husband and I went to an OA meeting once, just to see if we thought it would be helpful. It was very interesting, but not what we were looking for (it did seem to have religious-ish undertones and the food restrictions were not appealing to us). We were not expected say ANYTHING that first day--in fact, we may even have…
  • Things I've used for a similar strategy include origami (I bought a kit made for kids), taking a bath, calling someone to chat and/or vent/unload, file paperwork, clean the bathroom, read a chapter in a book. To the OP--I'm so glad that you've found a way to help with your eating issues! I've made a lot of progress with…
  • Yeah, we had to stop buying raisin bread for a few years, too. Now we buy it rarely and keep it at the bottom of the chest freezer, so I'd have to be really, really motivated to get it...
  • My husband and I were rough-housing one day (in a non-domestic-violence way, just to clarify) and I said, "You're beating me to a pulp!" And he said, "Yes, that's all you are now, a little pulp!"
  • I would start by going to your regular doctor and explaining your struggles so that s/he can make a referral to a psychologist. For me, a nutritionist wasn't able to help because she kept focusing on appropriate serving sizes and healthy snack choices. That's great, but not my problem. My problem is (or was--it's so, so…
  • Helloitsdan, I'm curious why you want to know this stuff. How would any of these factors impact whether or not therapy might help the OP?
  • Therapy has been enormously helpful for me. When I started seeing my current therapist, it was for what I thought were issues unrelated to eating, but it turns out that everything is interrelated, and goes way back to my childhood. It was only by chance that I even mentioned out-of-control eating to my therapist (because I…
  • I'm 4'11 and don't have any tips, but have been working (with varying degrees of focus) on the last 10-15 lbs for about 3 years now...
  • I agree--not tacky at all. Have a wonderful time!
  • 1. Not even knowing how to shop for clothes anymore. I have no idea if something fits, even when trying it on. 2. The change in identity that has gone along with it has been confusing and, at times, scary. It bewilders me that people don't seem to think that I'm fat anymore (I know I'm not, but I still think I am.). 3.…
  • This has been my experience too, making pants hard to find. If they fit my thighs/hips/butt, they're huge in the waist. There are different styles that work better, though (I got some good responses on my "pants for pears" post a while ago--you could search for that), and getting the waist taken in is an option also.
  • Like others, I take a walk outside. If it's bad weather, I might take a bath and/or a nap, if I have time. Writing in a diary (or even just making a list about everything--no matter how "important"--that's on my mind) helps too sometimes.
  • I love that you had to not just reach 50 pounds, but also keep it off for 2 weeks before you got the shorts. Congrats!
  • I agree.
  • I've lost close to 70 pounds and know that, to other people, I now look "normal." I relate to what you're saying, but have also found that, for me--and not until a couple years after the initial weight loss--there are moments when I look at my body (either in a mirror or at my actual body) and notice that it's much smaller…
  • Just bumping to read responses.
  • "...you aren't the body type I'm looking for."
  • My husband's solution is to plan events at our house and invite both sides (this is 4 sets of parents, as we both have stepparents). I hate this because it's a lot of work and stress for me, but I like it because he feels happy and everyone is included (if they want to be).
  • I show them an unflattering "before" picture and say something like, "I'm working really hard to stay healthy so that I don't go back to this. If I want some cake, though, I'll be sure to help myself." (I don't know if this would work with people who have known you throughout the weight loss, though, but you could try it.)
  • I agree. They have BOGOS all the time on ice cream and chips, but I've never seen a BOGO deal on any type of fresh produce or even on lean meat. (Eating healthy foods is still worth the long-term investment in our health, but it is not cheaper for my family.)
