Glad to see you here StrongLife. Food has a way of catching up with this doesn't it. The toughest part is you have to eat to live, but it is a struggle not to live to eat.

+1 I exercise more during the days I plan to drink wine. All work and no play...

You go girl, 10,000 steps is great! (Hopefully that didn't sound too cliché. :) ) I can relate to the sedentary lifestyle. Until just recently, I would spend 9-12 hours a day at a desk. My business demanded it, how would it thrive if I didn't? But no more, I have but one live to live and I need to find the proper balance.…

Welcome Alphabet soup. I look forward to your thread on making weight loss changes that are sustainable.

This +1000 You could set the fitness world on fire for many people my friend, strike while the iron's hot. Once the book is out, I think you should have your own TV show.

Great thread! I've lost a an ostrich egg and a Chihuahua.

Last summer, I attempted to swim one mile a day. After several weeks I encountered a problem due to wearing swim goggles and/or mask, where the area around my eyes would get very dry. Without the goggles or a mask, I hit the walls. :) I am not sure if it was a reaction to the latex or something else.

What type of weights are you using? Free weights, weight machine, kettle bells, etc? I've always assumed that free weights are the best for strength, but like weight machines for the safety factor.

My first try at this, but I am eager to stop my evening snack. I gave soda up about a year ago from a challenge from my son, I am hoping this challenge will have the same result.

What is the zero to 1650 challenge? Edit: Nevermind, I just saw the link in your post. Sounds like a great challenge, keep up the good work.

Welcome to the group! I firmly believe that slow weight loss is better for your body and agree that it is more sensible.

My Goals for April: 1. Lose 7 pounds 2. Log at least 100 miles on my bicycle (Hopefully the weather permits) 3. Utilize my elliptical 3 days a week 4. Begin a light weight program 5. Stop snacking after 7PM BTW if you are interested in number 5, here is a great MFP challenge thread to help motivate participants to stop…

Hello, my name is Mike and I am 55. I originally started MFP last summer with a goal to get down to 180 pounds. Fate had other plans in store for me as my long time friend and business partner died a few months later. He was eight years my senior and in great shape, in fact I thought he would outlive me. Doubts crept in…

Great idea, I am glad to see you are doing it again in April, as I just found March's thread and followed your link here. Snacks seem to call to me after 7PM, especially if I am watching TV. So, I will set my cut-off time at 7PM.

My son and his girlfriend run marathons, we went to cheer them on one time. I loved the environment and really admired the runners.

13 pounds is wonderful, keep up the good work. You going to need a new pair of new running shoes soon, good job! When it's windy, it does make a difference, although it never seems like the wind can be at my back pushing me forward. :) Welcome to the group! I will send you an invitation.

Love your quote Mick, it is so true. Your adventurous spirit is motivational. :) (MFP needs a thumbs up icon)

I'm just using the ball as I thought it would be able to do double duty in the gym as well as being used in the office.
-
I picked up a stability ball yesterday at lunch, no slouching with this thing.

It is pretty straight forward to join the group, go to the following: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/104713-fifty-plus-or-so-support-group From there you should be able to click "Join", if not let me know and I will send you an invite.

Interesting and encouraging replies everyone, thank you!

Hi Braye325, I clicked on the join button, to request membership a couple days ago but haven't been accepted yet.

Great points Allan, thank you! I agree, I couldn't tolerate standing all day. Thankfully, the device I bought allows me to easily raise or lower it. I guess the title I choose was incorrect, a better title would have been adjustable desk. I like the idea of using a stability ball instead of a desk chair, I think I will try…

Welcome! I know what you mean about exercising for wine. :)

#standenvernet and #beachgal0626 - thanks for the information. In no way am I trying to overstep or butt-in, but I just created a group called "Fifty Plus (or so) Support Group." If anyone is interested in climbing on board, the group is open to the public. Here is the link:…

Would someone please post a link to the MFP group or send me an invite? I have been unsuccessful in locating "Fifty plus (or so) support group" in the group listings. Thanks!
