Just got an email offering half price mizuno inspire&wave riders in the £50 range from sweatshop.co.uk I traded up from asics to brooks gylcerin for longer runs and brooks launch for racing up to 10k.

I have a similar weight loss journey And started running a year ago. Definately dont stop, just build up base miles slowly. Fully agree with getting gait analysis in a good running store. I takes a while to build up muscle and leg strength too. Have reduced parkrun times from 40m to almost 30 now. Good luck.

Managed to find a local 5k park run with pacers. Even gave me some breathing tips en route, as i was obviously struggling to keep up! Didnt hit goal, but did manage a course pb as a consolation.

I now buy my shoes from brick and mortar shops that price match against their own web sites. Sweatshop give 20% discount to sweatshop running community(2×weekly run groups from their shops) and also on production of a park run barcode. Starttraining.co.uk are a local firm with a price match guarantee against other web…

Being a tad harsh on yourself shows the will to improve imo. Evaluation is important for future planning. With disrupted training and the elements in play, We cannot PB every race. Take a little time, then i am sure you will line up the next half with renewed vigour.

good shoe for slight over pronators. did you get gait analysis too?
-
all uk supplies are legally obliged to state the cals per 100g.this is the stat i use. some places like aldi/lidl play a bit fast and loose with "serving size" imo.

i recently put out a request on running groups on FB to see where ,if any, local races have pacers. pleasantly surprised to find quite a few. runnersworld also has links to volunteer pace groups, and indeed paced races locally. good luck.

did you ever get fixed up with new shoes?

re-started half marathon plan due to weight gain.july 21. will then upgrade to a full marathon plan to attempt distance again in late autumn.

message sent.

guess that depends on the gym then. PT s at nuffield gyms are salaried, and provide help on shift as part of their duties. also get a quarterly hour developement plan too. they also provide personal sessions off shift.
-
Agreed. You seem to have a better base level of fitness than most new starters.

i enjoy the small 5 pack bars of aldi moser+roth dark chocolate. tesco now sell chocolate brownie fiber one bars,87 cals and 5g of fibre.currently on offer at 2 x 5packs at £4.50.satisfies my now ,occassional, chocolate cravings.

i started the same journey 2 years ago. i started walking on the treadmill, slowly increasing speed and distance.took about 3 months to walk 5k at 3 mph. as i reduced weight below 200 lbs, started run intervals.1 min run/1 min walk. once i started running outside, was able to increase distance progressively. c25k is an…

I wear them for all sports now. Many less costly options like aldi or sweatshop in uk.less than £5 pair.

@RalfLott .Still diet controlled, and do lots of running. Thanks for the follow up.

*shoe type.
-
This sounds odd, frankly. Sounds like a shoe issue. What make/model did you get? Try foam rolling anyway as it is a runners godsend imo. Then revisit show type.

squash gives me the highest burn of any exercise, including running. you can check via the. compendium of physical activities.

+1. net carbs is an american marketing term unrecognised by the FDA etc.so i recently learned. as a diet controlled t2 diabetic and ibs-c/diverticulitis sufferer,i do as you have and research info AND get advice from mfp ers who have similar life experiences. overall,it works for me.

also swimming and rowing . age 50 @270llbs vo2 max of 6.smoker. age 54 @170ish vo2 mox of 42.non-smoker. i get measured at nuffield hospital each1/4. definitely improvable.

agreed. i lost too much before addressing protein needs as i worried more about pure calorie deficit.wrongly. lost way too much muscle mass and burned out . took awhile to fix.
-
agree they are all different and wildly inaccurate in my experience. gps watch measures and times way more accurately against phone apps like runkeeper, runtastic, may my run and samsung s health. all calibrated against measured races at 5k,10k and half marathon. i only use watch now,and enter times manually on here for…
-
i aim for about a 3:1 carb to protein ratio within 30 mins of long run. i learned this from runnersworld.com,both (qualified&certified) personal trainers and generic research from non knuckle dragging resources. trial and error for most people.

i have used own brands from asda(walmart) and superdrug succesfully in the past.also got some brand leaders cheap from B&M stores.
-
+1. Enough excuses .
-
Should you be worried? Yes. As you add mileage you likely will get niggles/injuries. My feet have shrunk a full size by losing 100 lbs, But i still need an extra size up for running shoes due to endurance/natural swelling. Gait analysis is NEVER pointless, and sounds even more essential in your specialised case. G luck.

i also have photochromic prescription glasses i wear permanently. i bought 4+ optical goggles for swimming too, maybe an optician/large walmart etc can recommend lightweight optical sports frames. mine were £20($30) from asda/walmart opticians.
