  • I was actually just talking to someone who was complaining she was too thin. I was about to agree with her but a gentle breeze kicked up and she blew away down the street.
  • You don't hate exercise, you just haven't found what you love yet. I was once a football player and thought there was something wrong with me because I hated it. (I'm a guy, I'm supposed to like football.) Well, after having my neck nearly broke and being knocked unconscious, I switched to wrestling and loved it. I went to…
  • Here's the best thing to do: Proceed as if it didn't happen and keep on eating healthy. If we over-think every time we have a bad day we are shifting our focus from our goals to our worries. On your weigh-in day you go and get on the scale, read the number, and say 'whelp, this is what will happen to me if I don't keep…
  • You know what's better than eating bread? Making bread... and then eating it! Seriously, four ingredients and approximately 10 minutes worth of work gets you a warm and delicious loaf of fresh bread!
  • I'll be honest, I hate running with others. For me running is a meditation in solitary goals and striving to hit and exceed your limits. That said, I love having something to keep me company, which is why I listen to audiobooks while training for my marathon. Last marathon I did I listened to the Harry Potter series.…
  • Yeah, Netflix is far better than the televisions at the gym, especially when the choices are MSNBC, Fox, CNN, or sports. Your choices are I'm feeling liberal, I'm feeling centerist, I'm feeling conservative, or I want to watch people in better shape than me get paid to exercise. :) Also, I listened to the entire Harry…
  • Yes, you can do it as much as you want as long as your body feels good. A rest day is important. So is staggering. What is staggering you ask? Rather than just going at 3.5 six days a week you should do something like 3.3, 3.5, 3.7, rest day, 3.7, 3.5, 3.3, rest day, and repeat. Pump up or down the numbers until you have…
  • This wonderful comic has summed up my reasons for running and why I am so passionate about it. Though I have not done an ultra marathon yet, I plan to one day. http://theoatmeal.com/comics/running
  • I'm very sorry about your loss. Losing a loved one is one of the most painful things in the world. I am in almost the same boat as you as far as the weight gain and reasons behind it. I was down to ~170 and had just run a marathon. I began letting myself slip though and not tracking my calories or watching what I had eaten…
  • I once knew a fake geek girl. Don't get me wrong, she was a total geek, but she was actually a robot.
  • I used to have serious shin splints. After I bought new running shoes my legs feel amazing. Like I have whole new legs and am running on clouds. Running shoes only last 6 months or 300 miles, depending on who you ask. Don't cheap out on shoes either, they are important.
  • Ha! My non-internet-savvy aunt found out the hard way why you should not simply Google the name of that sporting goods store when looking for locations. :)
  • That must have been some serious grade pepper spray! Was it for the public to purchase or just cops/military/etc?
  • Hey, I just found something out. See the stars in my former comment? Yeah, apparently you aren't allowed to post the last name of "Great Expectations" author Charles (last name will be starred out) on this website. Go figure.
  • If you are that scared you know what else is a good workout? Martial arts classes. Seriously, they work your whole body and, a while after beginning them, you won't worry about out running by yourself. However, if that's not your thing, allow me to offer you this caution about mace. Have you ever been sprayed in the face…
  • Electron! (Sorry for the negative comment.)
  • Good shoes, lots of stretching, don't push yourself so hard you get injured (if you gotta walk for a while then walk), and grenades are always a fashionable running accessory that will also be useful when the dead start rising from their graves.
  • I use the MapMy* series for just about everything. MapMyRun tells you your split pace each mile, keeps track of your route, and logs each run so you can go back and check. Also, there is MapMyRide for bikes and MapMyHike for... well, you know. Each one track speed, distance, height gain, and logs each workout. Best part is…
  • There are a few things that motivated me. First, I love to run. It's freeing, calming, and, when you do it as part of a race, people actually cheer for you. They're like "Ya you, look at you move! Keep moving, you!" Second, I'm vain. I may not be much to look at normally, but man can I dress up. I can rock three-piece…
  • This ain't Facebook, man. Friends here should motivate you. Some of my friends do awesome workouts and I think to myself "Dang, I gotta get off my buttocks and get moving like that guy!"
  • Xingu. It is delicious and, at 120 calories, a perfect dinner drink!

  • Hay there! (Yeah, that joke was just there and no one was going to take it.) As someone mentioned, you already lost so much weight! You are doing good! Keep it up. It's like that band Men Without Hats said: "We can log if you want to. We can leave your friends behind. Because if they don't log and if they don't log, they…
  • First, awesome job running! Now matter how fast or slow you go, you are still out there doing it! Go you! Now, for advice. Stretch. Like a lot. Stretch before and after each run. If you need to don't be afraid to stop in the middle of your run to stretch. This will keep your joints happy and lead to less injury. The right…
  • The MapMy* series is great. I use MapMyRun, MapMyRide, and MapMyHike. You only need one account to access all of them.
  • Well, according to my Facebook feed, the only way to get results from Crossfit is to constantly tell everyone you are doing Crossfit. :) On a serious note, it really looks like it works. One of my friends went from regular fit to beefcake after doing crossfit. I would do it, but it costs a lot. So go for it. Worse that…
  • The nod and smile is important for two reasons: 1: As a runner, whether you know this or not, you now belong to a secret society. If you have not received your ring in the mail, you will soon. The smile and nod is the runner secret handshake. It acknowledges you as an actual runner and not just some peasant moving quickly.…
  • I'm in the same boat. I lost a lot of weight for my wedding and my marathon. Since then I had been complacent and gained back some of the weight. Then, in February, my best friend passed away unexpectedly and I compensated for my broken heart with lots of comfort food. And I mean LOTS! (I think if you summed up my eating…
  • I'm a writer, so I map out plot lines, create characters, try out dialogue, get into the head of characters. Or I imagine what I would do with different superpowers. Or I carry out conversations with people I will never see again. Or sometimes it's just "Run 10 miles I said. It won't be hard I said. Forget this, I am just…
  • Well you should run. I mean, what are you going to do when the Doctor shows up and yells "The Cybermen are coming. Allons-y!"
  • I think you can change the settings around to do what you want. I never used my FB account because i prefer not to plague my friends. However, I have seen a number of my friends' statuses floating by on my timeline.
