Thanks for all the kind words!

You're not alone--guys who want to deadlift at big commercial gyms have the same problem. Just grab a bar from an empty bench or from a squat rack, and move it to an open area where you can comfortably deadlift. As long as you put it back when you're done, nobody should mind (and every big scary guy I've ever met has been…

I like Rocky Road.

I cook with EVOO, canola oil, peanut oil, and butter. I also take 2 tsp of Carlson's fish oil daily, to up my EPA/DHA (Omega-3s).

I just started Starting Strength as well, after 6 months losing weight on MFP and training for a marathon. I have a log on BB.com if you want to check in on my progress: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=139629253&p=780080863 My name is Michael. I'm 31 and live in Washington, DC. I'm looking to build strength…

I'm not a woman, but I'm starting Rippetoe's Starting Strength program on Monday. I hope you're still enjoying the program and making great progress!

Thanks, everyone!

Weighed in this morning at 196.6 lbs., down 6.4 from last week, 4.8 from the start of this thread, and 2.4 below my July plateau range (199-204)! I switched to a calorie cycling plan, and it seems to be working. SW 216 CW 197 GW 188

Up a pound today (203.2)--seem to be stuck in a 3-4 lb. range right around 200 lbs. I really want to break through this plateau. SW 216 CW 203 GW 188

Bump. I've been thinking of trying this approach.

I'm one of the gents here--I hope that's OK--but I added my information to this list:

I'm in! Starting weight 216, current weight 202, goal weight 188. I've been looking for some accountability to push past this mini-plateau, so I'll happily join the Tuesday weigh-in. Thanks!

I'm training for the New York marathon in November. It will be my second (Marine Corps 2009). I joined the cross country team in junior high, mostly as a joke (didn't really have the build). I've been running ever since, much more seriously in the past two years. Sign up for races at a variety of distances. Its useful…

Thanks! Since the beginning of June, I've been lifting weights M/W/F and running Tu/Th/Sa, plus I walk about 4 miles day to and from work. Before that I was mostly just running.

Thanks! Physical changes have been subtle, but I'm feeling great. Good luck tomorrow!

Figured out how to post the pictures.

Follow-up question: how do you convert the Borg scale into BPM? Is it simply 10x on the 15-point (6-20) scale? (so a 13 for steady pace is 130 bpm, 20 for exhaustion is 200, etc) Thanks!

I second the suggestion for Kashi Go Lean Crunch, especially the honey almond flax variety. Delicious granola-like taste, high in protein and fiber, very filling.

Here's my take from doing a little research: Your body cannot store alcohol like it can with other energy sources, so it metabolizes alcohol first. While your body is metabolizing the alcohol, the rate at which is metabolizes other energy sources slows dramatically. I haven't seen anything that suggests that it slows down…

The MFP numbers aren't necessarily accurate, but that number sounds far too high. I'd guess something's wrong with your HRM's calculation, unless you were speed-walking with a weighted backpack.

In addition to the dietary changes, you might consider a phase of higher intensity workouts including anaerobic exercise, intervals, and/or weight training (if you're not already doing something similar). If you're a long-time distance runner, your body may have adapted so effectively to long, slow distance that you're not…

I'm in if you still need someone! Looks like a lot of fun, and I live in Capitol Hill.

Great post, thanks for the detailed explanation.

I agree with everyone who has said popcorn can be a good snack option, but averaging a full bag (assuming its the larger bags and not the mini 100 calorie bags) every day might be preventing you from eating a balanced diet. That may be as much as 15-20% of your total caloric intake coming from one relatively nutrient-light…

Can someone explain the science of this?

I like cut-up vegetables dipped with mini hummus packs.

Central Park is extremely safe during the day. Highly recommend the running path around the "Reservoir," which from the North side will offer some of the best views of the city you'll find anywhere.

I'm new and I'd love to join in.
