  • Only you Tinz can giggle like a girl and have great nashers as an end result! I like your thinking by the way, as my 'healthy living' has gone to pot trying to keep up with my Mum's drinking regime - sherry while cooking, wine with dinner, shots with conversation.....my poor teeth need to recover too! Have a great holiday…
  • Hiya, I've been on MFP almost two years and love it! I'm 5'2" high, SW 178, CW 133 and GW 119 I work full time with expelled pupils, study part time for my degree, raise one son, now aged 11 and try and fit in homelife with hubby too! My exercise regime is based on walking (struggle to do anything different due to spinal…
  • I had a spinal operation and could not walk or work out. I concentrated on just eating to the MFP guidelines (1200 calories per day) and lost a staggering 2 stone (28 lbs). When I was able to walk again (very slowly) this increased my weight loss even more. Since then, I've joined the gym (try and go once a week) and walk…
  • As a general rule of thumb, stick to MFP gauge for a couple of months, if you are craving healthy foods, you need to increase your calorie intake. If you are not hungry, then try dropping the goal. Listen to your body, once the gauge is fixed!
  • I had spinal surgery last year and had to learn to walk again...and I lost weight! Your body NEEDS fuel to heal, keep your choices healthy, stay as mobile as you are allowed and can cope with and keep mentally active. You will lose muscle mass, but you will gain it back again once you're healthy enough to lift again. Don't…
  • It took me 11 years to pile on the pounds (59 in total) and after numerous failed diet plans, was introduced to MFP by my mother (in desperation!) After 620 days, I can now say I know what my failings are and I know what I need to do to lose weight and get/stay healthy. After major spinal surgery and walking being the only…
  • I really admire your slant on this topic! By removing the negatives, rather than trying to state what (limited) new resolutions will remain, is superb. Also, trying to 'give up' alcohol is really difficult, to begin with. I barely drink now (and yep, it now sounds like I have a problem with it lol!!) but I've found I enjoy…
  • There is a simple test to try that determines how 'fast' your dietry tract operates, that should help you determine whether you personally need more fibre or not. In one meal, eat a punnet of pickled beetroot. When you next 'poo' if it is a deep red colour (don't let it frighten you) then that gives you an idea on how many…
  • My friends think I'm crazy. I think I'm organised. My husband is now thankful I can save money of the food shop! In a nutshell, I have a list of EVERY meal we, as a family, enjoy. I then buy what I need to make 7 of those meals (including breakfast and lunch). I bulk buy veggies as I freeze them to stop them going…
  • Great find Tinz! My copy/paste... 25bmi Below average You have a lower BMI than 67% of females aged 30-44 in your country Global Above average You have a higher BMI than 56% of females aged 30-44 in the world If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would add 11,751,297 tonnes tothe total weight of the world's…
  • It may be different for others, but to make sure I am consistent, I always measure around where my belly button is.
  • My mum went from ebony black to dirty grey by 40 and coloured her's pillar box red (and has done for the last 21 years!) Now mine is losing it's colour, but I'm auburn turning silver. IF it stays silver, I'll not colour as the money and time wasted seems bizzare. I won't do plastic surgery either..grow old…
  • Good advice Zara, didn't realise it was that sensitive. Love mine and always have it on. However, it's no good for gym excercises as it doesn't recognise step machines or cross trainers or excertion. HRM are best for gym work and swimming. Then if you update any HRM exercises, log them on MFP and it overrides the fitbit…
  • Hi, Please take note of everything your GP says. I speak from horrific experience...trapped sciatic nerve on and off for 3 years, eventually lead to total loss of mobility down left side and ended up in wheelchair...spinal op last November. My recovery has been phenomenal and has surprised my surgeon no end. My secret?…
  • I've only recently bought the fitbit. I use MFP to log all my food and drink, and use the fitbit to calculate my exact calories burnt (rememebering to start and stop the stopwatch for exercies) and once it's uploaded to the fitbit site, it re-adjusts my MFP calorie allowance. I hit a plateau that has stuck around for eons,…
  • 407 today - totally dedicated (and was upset I didn't get balloons on my 365 day lol!!) This site works - wouldn't go without it now!
  • Dear 16 year old me. Well what a ride you will have, but PLEASE don't smoke, it took an age to quit the 60 a day habit  Do NOT do drugs, bad hospital trips that are difficult to explain! Follow your gut and DO phone the police - it stops you committing murder (even if in self-defence!) Even though Mum is a stubborn,…
  • Met online Jan 2001, met in person March 2001 and had our son Nov 2001. Married Aprill 11th 2008. So all in all, known each other 11 years and married 4 years next week. We've been through heartache, illnesses and time spent apart whilst he was in Afghan, but I wouldn't change what we have for anything. The love just gets…
  • Hello Aryel, Summer 2011 I was immobile, in a wheelchair. November 2011 I had spinal surgery. January 2012 I started to walk again, very, very slowly and painfully (began with a walking frame then double crutches, then single crutch - now nothing needed!) It is an uphill struggle, the path may be peppered with tears and…
  • I'm in Telford, Shropshire - please feel free to add me too! I am a daily visitor to MFP (315 days and counting) and have managed to lose 38lbs in that time. I'm really pleased with this as recovering from spinal op, so have achieved this with walking and calorie counting (and amazing support on here!!) Wendy
  • Since discovering Dorset Cereals I'd have to recommend them! The fruit based ones have 30-50% fruit, lots of fibre and the sugar is from the fruit (haven't got the details to hand right now though) they also do nut and seed types too. Gorgeous with milk, pouring yoghurt etc and you still get the sweet kick! Good luck…
  • Hi Salsa, If any exercise you do is above your 'allocated calories' then, yep, log it. I brought myself (from Boots Chemist) a pedometer. By adding in my weight, stride length and other bits and bobs, it calculates the distance walked, steps taken and CALORIES burned! So if your lifestyle is quite sedentory (?), log…
  • Oooo biscuits - bane of my 'fitness' life! I don't mind if they are chocolate filled, pink wafers, plain, rich tea or fruit shortcake...just gotta have one to dunk in my tea at the end of the day lol! :drinker:
  • Great post! I lost 2 stone before winter officially set in, here in England and I was blumming FREEZING all day and all night. I have never had this problem before. Husband always said I had my own internal radiator as I was regularly warm/hot, day or night. To be able to cope and not be miserable, I wear up to 4…
  • I'm totally where you are right now! I had to buy new clothes (went from an 18 to 12 UK size) I went to Asda / Walmart and bought 3 pairs of trousers and 5 tops, new underware - but that was it! I rotate regularly and already I can see some need replacing - I will as and when, but refuse to spend a fortune...that is till…
  • I've always believed that if it has water in it, then count it - so I count tea and flavoured water/squash - it is 95% water, so why not? Open to discussion if people have other ideas...
  • The only place that has four seasons in one day - Shropshire, England. Originally from S****horpe, then Norfolk and now not too far from the Welsh boarder, with beautiful scenery and countryside :D
  • May I add a question? I am a walker (can't do any other exercise right now due to spinal op recovery) and would like to know also, which HRM would suit me as I burn low calories. It is the calorie count I'd prefer and I'd be much more comfortable with a wrist watch type one, rather than a chest strap. Any answers please???
  • Maybe a good, brisk walk would have been better. It is great exercise and tends to clear away the cobwebs (and dry soggy noses) and you can determine at what speed you go at. Listen to your body, it knows best, after all. Good luck, :)
  • lol - don't forget to and too!!!
