So anyone who has a book out is by definition not a good source of information EVER, because they are "biased"..... Proof please?
-
Ah the ad hominem fallacy yet again. She's selling a book so anything she says can be ignored on that basis alone. I wish people would make an attempt to stick to the evidence. I would be interested in a thoughtful critique of the points instead of a blanket statement that does no one any good.

I have walked marathons and run marathons. At the moment, I do some of both. Walking is excellent, and for me takes maybe 25% longer. One advantage is a way lower injury risk and quicker recovery. Keep on walking if you enjoy it!

My daughter lost weight and got in shape when she was a teenager. She is 24, and has maintained well without ever logging. She is active and just tries to eat in a way that she believes is healthy. It works well for her; but for the life of me I can't really well describe her program. I have succeeded in the past for 6-7…

I do not see the idea of "set point" as the most important point in this article as an earlier poster stated. The finding that people do better after maintaining for a year, and the reasons behind it are helpful IMO.

There is no excuse for bullying or ridiculing someone for their weight. But in the airplane situation, I can certainly understand both sides. Once I thought I was lucky enough to get an empty seat next to me in one of those really small planes with two small seats on each side. I was on the window seat. Just as they were…

It has all been said at this point. Given what you are reporting, a medical consult seems sensible. A food scale is a good idea even if you are nearly certain you are weighing properly. Many of the entries in your food diary appear to be generic and don't include weights. I always wonder how helpful something like…

The 15 year old may weigh the same. But Mountain Dew compared to potatoes?

I suppose I can reword my position as follows: I believe sugary sodas are a significant cause of children consuming more calories than they burn.
-
I believe soda plays a significant role in childhood obesity. It would be silly to consider it the sole cause. I still personally don't have any issue with the soda companies advocating activity.
-
It seems that somewhere in this thread someone said that ready access to food (which is admittedly related to but not identical to greater affluence) could be a factor. I am happy to concede that this was a misinterpretation of the point if you like; it wasn't really my main point at all.
-
I agree 100%. I didn't think anyone was arguing that soda consumption was the exclusive cause of obesity; but I may have missed it.
-
This would only be true of everything else were held constant, right?

How satiating a food is once one starts eating is a separate point from whether it was primarily hunger that drove one to eat it in the first place. Even if it is boredom, some foods seem to satisfy me well before I can do any caloric damage with them. Others not so much. I would argue that some people do chose the kind of…

I don't think the things Mayo Clinic includes under dietary factors is intended to be an exhaustive list.
-
Labeling someone's moderate consumption of certain foods as bad makes no sense. But I see that as a different point.
-
It is my position that it is NOT affluence.
-
I know that suggesting that the types of foods we are eating is playing a part is worse than taking a dump in a church on this board, but I strongly believe this to be true. I think the mediator may well be satiety. Some foods are calorie dense yet do not lead to satiety. Perhaps some of these foods even lead to increased…

I have "outwalked' my fork, outrun it, and "outcycled" it. It all amounts to how much one exercises, and how much one eats. If there is a deficit, loss will occur. The difficult thing about trying to create a deficit with exercise early on is that it is important to carefully and gradually ramp up activity level to prevent…

Two eggs over, 2 oz smoked turkey, spinach and arugula in a rosemary and olive oil "fold it".

Having had some training in drug and alcohol counseling back when I was working clinically, it seems that on this board that we confuse the concepts of "addiction" and "chemical dependence." Addiction: A compulsion to consume something or engage in some activity that is so strong that the individual will repeat the…

If you don't run a calorie deficit, you will not lose weight whether low carbs or high carbs.
-
I disagree for two reasons: Weighing food helps one understand and get a feel for correct portions. Weighing food helped me to not eat TOO little at times.
-
Calories are all that matter when it comes to weight loss. I would never argue against that.
-
I made the identical argument in a post I started maybe a month back. As I recall, you were one of the individuals who took issue with it. In fairness, I did use the term "bad foods". However, my intention was just to say that there are foods that I believe are "bad" for me-but maybe not for you. But once I used the term…

I have learned that this is not a respected opinion here; but I think we all need to find plans that work for us. There ARE some foods that I enjoy so much that life would be very grey if I had to live without them. A really good pizza, pasta, and Cajun food are three such examples. I have done well in integrating these…

I have always eaten back most of my exercise calories (~80-100%); I have never had a concern. I don't accept MFP estimates, as they are all too high. But based upon heart rate monitor readings for cardio, I have what appear, based upon my results, to be very reasonable estimates. People new to MFP who use the numbers on…

I would rather eat trout than Schnitzel. But there's nothing wrong with your approach either.
-
I believe the trout along with a strategic selection of sides would give you calories to spare. I think the shrimp would likely work as well unless it's drowning in butter and you eat all the sauce. The salad suggestions are solid. I would be interested to hear what you decide.
-
I am not sure what you calorie limitations are. I might consider the trout or the shrimp as well.
