• It would help to know what your goal is, and how many pounds you are trying to lose per/week. If you were set at 2 pounds/week for example, you would be planning for a 1000 calorie deficit. If 1 pound, you were planning a 500 calorie deficit. You can use some or all of that deficit to plan the rest of your day ,and get…
• I'm guessing he has read all these helpful comments and decided there was no benefit to engaging further. But that is just a guess. I would add that most of us who have responded, including me, posted things not of much help to anyone.....
• I suspect the OP is regretting ever posting given the ratio of help to hostility.
• Buying ice cream for someone who is trying to avoid it is sabotaging them. Of course, the response is "no thanks." But I see the offer as passive aggressive.
• It is impossible for me to escape people eating things that I try not to eat. I generally don't think it is my right to impose my needs on someone else. So I just learn to ride it out.
• Best to eat the things while you are losing that you intend to eat when you are maintaining IMHO.
• I am not sure how long ago H.S. was for you. Having lost weight over different decades I found that (5'5.5'' male) that the max weight in which I could wear 36 jeans was around ~180 in 1988 and ~205 in 2012. Some of it could be explained by the fact that I have "filled out" over the time, and so have greater muscle weight.…
• The OP has already had the surgery. I am not sure spending much time talking about its efficacy will do much for her at this point . That being said, most of the data I have read suggests that most people who lose weight through any method gain much of it back. So the argument that people who use non-surgical interventions…
• Someone close to me successfully went through surgery 10 years ago. (She remains at goal today; though that, in and of itself, proves nothing. Having gone through it at the time, I don't really agree that she had do demonstrate much more than a reasonable attempt at these things. But even if what you say is true, that…
• It would indeed be a flaw in a meta-analysis if the authors "cherry-picked" their studies. It is the job of the peer reviewers to identify any systematic bias, and this should play a role as to whether the paper gets published. I assume you will be providing us a review where you can demonstrate the "systematic cherry…
• If you fit it in, you should be absolutely fine!

• For some people, late night eating is unplanned extra eating that brings them to a calorie surplus. This will lead to weight gain; but it would lead to just as much gain if it was done at 11:00 A.M. The time one eats does not matter.
• I make them many different ways. Oven fries are a favorite with my family; though I like making them mashed, roasted, fingerlings, baked, etc...I also roll out the deep fryer from time to time......Its all about portion control!
• Baked Cod, 1/2 baked potato, fresh green beans, acorn squash...
• One note of caution is that MFP tends to over count exercise calories.
• Your goal is the right one. Developing habits you can live with long-term is key! I am a 54 year-old male losing on 2200/day....though I am active...
• I eat the combination of neat that tastes the best to me and my family-usually usually half 80/20 ground chuck, and half 90/10 ground sirloin. I mix some spices, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and a bit of barbecue sauce. I often make skin on oven fries as described by others on this thread, or sweet potato fries. If…
• Once, in the middle of a very successful weight loss program, I went to a Brazillian Steakhouse and had what I am certain was a several thousand calorie meat fest. The next day I pretended it didn't happen and forged ahead and all worked out well. The key is not to overreact to one event.
• I think there is a fair bit of research that contradicts the notion of eggs being a 'whoa' food. I also don't believe that a bit of cheese everyday is problematic, and take issue with the notion that 'cheese product' (slow) is better than full fat cheese (whoa). To bring up all the empirical evidence that would contradict…
• Indian food tastes great, and absolutely is a cuisine one can overeat while getting lots of veggies. Although I have fit my favorite byrani dishes and others into a balanced program......
Yeah, me too! Mainly I decide to get it every month or so vs. every week or so and use my long runs to make room. I had Indian…
•
I used to get takeout too much when I was gaining weight. I mostly got Indian food, including vegetarian choices such as the vegetable jalfrazie. The problem was not a lack of veg. It was that the veg came with too much high cal extras (especially ghee, but also naan, as I do love it).
Indian food tastes…
• My friend is a pepperoni only pizza guy. I suppose some consider the sauce a veggie. I am not sure the condiments on fast food burgers is enough to qualify...I have to say that when I ate with my friend in restaurants he really did order zero veggie items. But I suppose it is fair to say that some plant food slipped…
• A bachelor attorney friend of mine claimed this was the case for him. He never had food at home; and was practically 100 percent takeout....My stepson's dad and step mother have gone a week at a time not serving any veggies....I do agree that it's probably really rare.
• I think that this is mostly true. People who get lots of added sugar from these foods are usually seeking the sugar. Sodium may be a different issue. Package foods contain sodium sometimes to help preserve and add time to shelf-life.
• Tornados? Hurricanes? I suppose in this case it depends on the analogs one selects.
• I did not have any of your posts in mind when I wrote this. I respect your point of view. Given the manner in which the concept 'bad foods" is understood by some people, I will use different terminology in the future.
• I find myself regretting using the term "bad food" in my initial post as it seems to have tons of baggage attached to it. But I do have a couple questions for my various attackers attackers and insulters? Do you disagree that there are some foods that physiologically cause food cravings to go up for some people? Do you…
• Emphatically yes!

• I usually provide my best guess based upon size, ingredients etc... Sometimes I estimate the amount of the various ingredients. At other times I look up an analog in a restaurant that reports nutrition. Without knowing how big yours were my guess is the small estimate is low, and the 398 is high. When I make swordfish…
• Unshelled peanuts are 160/quarter cup. Unshelled pistachios are approximately the same.
