  • As I read the OPs post, one of the very reasonable things she is asking for is that things are planned in advance, allowing her to make her other decisions accordingly. I don't think that this is much to ask for at all. Exactly why is that an unreasonable request? If my wife asked this if me, I would do it without question!
  • I think 250 for EACH taco is closer to the truth and how I would log it.
  • Everyone's entitled to eat what they like, of course. But this post makes me sad. I wonder what "actual food" is......
  • The Branzino for certain! I might go with the caprese as my starter; or I may consider the calamari if I could share it. It all looks great!
  • Walking is fine. You don't ever HAVE to switch to running. The advantage is less pounding; and as your fitness improves you can increase your pace. I have walked marathons, and have even won my age award in the walking division of half marathons (~2:25). I run too; but when my mileage gets up there, I usually do more…
  • I don't know how this is a response to my comment. Who said commercials are the only reason someone is going to think of something?
  • He's suggesting he is thinking about pizza because of the frequent commercials-which is exactly why companies pay millions of dollars to put them on the air. I don't see him talking about indulgence-let alone blaming anyone or anything for it.
  • The breakfast wrap I made at home with morning came in at 549 and 35.5g protein. Given the other lack of many nutrients, those numbers are not impressive. People's staunch defense of the nutritional value of McDs is a mystery to me.
  • To be clear, I don't think you are imposing your views. I find the snack aisle easier to overeat than, for example, chicken and rice. Others don't find this to be the case. I'm sure that your 80 20 guideline is perfectly healthy. It just isn't the best approach for me......
  • I don't understand why some people don't understand that some of us, for various reasons, prefer to eliminate or dramatically reduce certain "foods" from our diet. Different approaches to this work for different people. Mine works for me; I don't impose it on others. OP needs to find out what works for her. That being…
  • I have 1333 calories logged at the moment; and I am at 132g of protein for the day without even thinking about it. (I still haven't planned lunch.) If you are truly at maintenance, 95g shouldn't be tough most days. Based upon your stats, your TDEE is estimated at around 1585 for sedentary.
  • I see different versions of this statement; but I don't think it makes sense. Lawn mowing burns the same number of calories whether I have ever done it before or not. Now if my plan is to hold nutrition and everyday activity constant and create a defecit by adding exercise it would make sense to only log additional…
  • It depends, of course, on how many calories one has to work with. I'm at 2600 to 2800 (with the help of exercise) to lose my last 7 lbs so it's not tough for me to integrate moderate wine consumption. At 1200 calories it would be much harder.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, the obligatory crapping on the original poster while not getting what is actually a good point.
  • Though to be clear, I am not endorsing any specific pattern. I am just pointing out that it can be fit in.

  • It depends upon the amount.

  • When I think of the other things I could eat with the calories of a Big Mac.....well....
  • 240 to 176 here. Wine most every night...Actually, wine every night.

  • I am a 54 year old man, 5'6''. I started at 240, and weighed in this morning at 176 (a little less than my "after pic").....goal is 168..... The advice about checking your logging is spot on. If your numbers are honest, you should be losing. But without a scale, you could be off by quite a bit. Also be careful about your…
  • The one proviso is that some of the calorie burn estimates people get, either from MFP or other means can be very high. Some people are successful by eating half their exercise calories back at first and adjusting as they get more data. I am ~64 pounds down, with 8-9 to go; and I eat probably 90 percent of my exercise…
  • The OP was never anywhere near 377, and he never said the doctor ordered 1200. I think people's general guidance is appropriate.
  • It's early in the day. I didn't express my thought clearly, I burn more than 1200 every day exercising. It can be difficult for someone just beginning an exercise program to burn an additional 1200 calories (on top of what they burn through regular activities). This was more what I intended to say. I shouldn't post after a…
  • I started today with a 5.5 mile run on the treadmill. I have a 50 minute Taekwondo class tonight. Will spend about 45 minutes mowing a hilly lot with a walking mower not self propelled. I will take a moderate paced 2.5 mile walk at lunch to clear my head. Like today, I exceed 1200 uumost days, But this can be difficult for…
  • I agree that it is difficult for someone to burn 1200 calories in a day exercising. I also agree that some of the MFP numbers are way high. But "almost no one can burn 1200" is an overstatement-especially if one is really active and sets baseline at sedentary.
  • It has been my experience that many people who think they hate veggies have never had them prepared well. Americans are typically not creative about veggie preparation. You might be doing yourself a favor by giving them a second chance and trying some recipes.
  • Well stated.
  • A physical effect does not necessarily imply dependence. Sugar, for example, has an effect on the body. I use it in mile 23 of a marathon for a reason. But I have seen no evidence of chemical dependence with it. (I believe it's only very rarely addictive, incidentally.) I don't believe I have ever had a food addiction. I…
