LOL. I love your replies!

This. It is sugar but also with the fact that most fruits have a good amount of fiber (depends on which fruit) it doesn't get released into the bloodstream as quickly as say a Mountain Dew.

One of my favorites is Occam's Razor. Many people paraphrase it differently but here it is "when you have two competing theories that make exactly the same predictions, the simpler one is the better."

Ditto! Thank you for saying this. I was able to reverse my diabetes with weight loss and moderate changes to my diet and just lowering my sugar a bit. I feel fortunate that this worked for me cause I know it doesn't work for others. What I have learned from my experience is that the human body is really hard to generalize…

Love Misty Copeland! She is a healthy role model, she doesn't have the conventional super skinny body.

Oh wow. He's hot. Good call.

Thank you for this! Seriously, this is what I was thinking.

Eh, to each their own. I know what works for me and I hate it when people try to micromanage my diet. It honestly wasn't even worth arguing with this person, I have family that is like this too.

This is great advice! I am working on my inner dialogue as well, I know I've had these thoughts where I get frustrated about counting calories but then I think about how far I've come and I just keep going.

This has happened to me as well. I agree with vismal though it is nice to see my numbers go down. :)

You are so right! I agree with the time you provided for when you should stop logging. It took a person this long to learn how to lose it, now they have to take the same amount of time to adjust to maintenance.

I'm stuck on step 3 and coincidentally thinking about doing weights. haha

Same here. Just like realizing I have to test my glucose for the rest of my life, it's accepting it and realizing that these are tools to help me and not beat myself up because other people don't do it.

I agree 100% and any reference to The Oatmeal is awesome. I was one of those people that thought I was done and then just ate junk again and gained all of the weight back plus an additional 5 lbs. I've collectively lost about 55 lbs and I have accepted the fact that once I get to my goal weight, I have to realize that the…

I can't wait to get out of the obese and into overweight! I have 47 lbs to go until I get there. But I will do a dance a joy too! Congratulations on hitting that milestone and that is great you are almost in the normal range!
-
Ha! I wish I could lift up my shirt and show off my toned abs and say that to my doctor! lol But my first goal would be to have my BMI at 29 so I can get out of the obese category. Once I'm in the overweight BMI range, then I guess I will have a better idea of where I need to be.

I'm a nerd because I majored in Mathematics, well specifically Statistics. My job consists of me writing computer programs and yes, I do get a lot of joy when I solve a math or programming problem. :)

Hi, I was diagnosed as what my doctor would call a "borderline type II diabetic" and she wanted to put me on metformin as well. I asked her what I could do so that I don't have to take pills (my mom is type II and has to take two pills to control her sugar) she told me I had to lose weight and see a nutritionist. I asked…

Good for you! I actually was diagnosed as a borderline diabetic but reversed my condition (through weight loss and diet) and this diagnosis isn't something I'd wish on anyone. So I commend you on eating well and preventing it. But at the same time the diagnosis is what got me to turn my life around and I am thankful for…
-
Exactly! When you are trying to lose weight and eat better it seems everyone wants to micro-manage your diet! Well said!

I went to high school with a guy name Richard Phenis. Yea...you can imagine all the fun we had making fun of his name.

Our stories are incredibly similar. I will tell you about my situation but wow almost identical.
