  • Wow, Shel. 16 marathons!!?!? You're my hero! I'm training for my second half marathon. Today was my first day. :) Boot Camp kicked my butt! (Literally. It hurts. Haha.) I convinced my husband to come with my tonight and afterwards he said he's never trusting me to take him to a class again. :)
  • I'm excited to announce that I'm LOSING weight. After months of being on a plateau (and losing motivation by the day because the scale was up-down-up-down-up-down), for the past four weeks I have lost weight every week except one (the one week that every woman dreads and gains no matter what). As of today, I've lost 4.2…
  • Good morning all! Tonight I have BOOT CAMP class at my gym. It's different every time, but it usually involves a mixture of sprints, lunges, squats, abs, etc. I'll let y'all know later tonight how sore I am. :) haha
  • http://afallecker.qhealthzone.com go under "sports nutrition" nutrilite protein shakes - come in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberries & cream they are super yummy, only 160-170 calories, 25g protein, 4-6g carbs, 6g fat, 0 sugar

  • I always eat WAAAY over my protein. In fact, after talking with a PT he explained that the more protein you eat, the better, and you should try to eat 1g per pound you weigh. Protein burns more calories because it's harder to digest. Just keep in mind that LEAN protein is best - grilled chicken, fish, beans, etc. Hope that…

  • I just got the Kayano's too! They are the BEST. You get what you pay for, that's for sure. I ran my last half marathon in an old Kayano's version and they rocked. Comfortable. Light. Airy. :) *Sigh* I am in love! haha
  • Hi all! Today is a rest day for me. Kechie - you asked yesterday about my training program. It's an "Alison's Special." haha (I basically took the program I used a few years ago and changed it up a bit to work in my schedule now.) If you'd like a copy of it, I can send it to you. My training begins TOMORROW. :)
  • Hi all! Can I join the MFP Runner's Club? I start my 20-week half marathon training on Monday. :)
  • Tonight we made skewers of chicken, shrimp, green bell peppers, zuccini, and squash, lightly marinated them with a mixture of lite balsamic dressing and garlic herb seasoning, and put them on the grill. YUM! Less than 300 calories, full of protein, and very filling! My favorite part: Grilled green bell peppers. There's…
  • This is a really cool website for when you're not sure how many calories you've burned during a workout: http://www.self.com/health/activity/calculators/ You select an activity, put in your weight and duration, and it calculates about how many calories you've burned! I found it helpful for entering in a cardio exercise…
  • Thanks everyone! I'm gonna do it!!! http://www.richmondmarathon.org/
  • I remember my training program a few years ago for the half marathon, but I may have to mix it up a bit now that I'm working and not in college. It went something like this: Monday - class (usually did kickboxing or something) Tuesday - short run (4-5 miles) Wednesday - eliptical & arms Thursday - short run (4-5 miles)…
  • I ran a half marathon four years ago. Since then, I've been an on-again, off-again runner. Right now I can run about 3-4 miles, and there is a half marathon coming up in November. Part of me is a little nervous, but another part of me says, "You did it before! You can do it again!" Anybody else interested in running a half…
  • I cup greens, 5oz seasoned chicken breast, 1/4 cup blueberries, 1 Tbsp lite balsamic dressing ... makes a low-cal yummy and satisfying salad! for dessert - a skinny cow skinny dipper
  • Here is an article with 28 satisfying 100-calorie snacks: http://health.msn.com/nutrition/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100203726
  • Planning is KEY. I type everything I'm going to eat for the day in the Food Diary. (I also add in my exercise so I'm sure to eat the extra calories.) Then I print it out. I go through the list and write exactly what TIME I'm going to eat it, and just make it part of my schedule for the day. It sounds like a lot, but you'd…
  • I'm not a huge veggie fan either. I try to get them in by "hiding" them in my food. For example, add chopped spinach to an egg-white omelet w/ 2% cheese. Or stuff green bell peppers w/ extra lean ground turkey and brown rice, topped w/ tomato juice. Add sliced zuccini into a chicken teriyaki "stir-fry" (low-sodium teriyaki…
  • Awesome! Keep these websites coming! Check this one out: www.dietfacts.com
  • You CAN, but the way our body is designed is that the more we eat larger quantities of calories together (sit down for a BIG dinner, for example), the slower our metabolism. For best results, try to spread your calories throughout the day. I eat 1200 calories a day, and I'm able to eat every 1-3 hours and still have a…
  • I don't know how many of you have a Red Robin nearby, but this is one of the coolest nutritional calculators I've seen. I took a salad that's usually over 650 calories and knocked it down to 366 just by changing the dressing the holding the marinated apples. (Apple Harvest Chicken Salad) Check it out!…
  • Oh yay, thanks for explaining "bump"!!! And I agree, this is an awesome post. I was just thinking this morning about how I'm going to eat my exercise calories, and deciding if it was worth it or not. Now I see it IS! I'm going to grab a snack right now ...
  • I was telling a friend of mine (a marathon runner) about some pain I'm having and she said it's probably a stress fracture. I'm going to ask my PT if I should see the doc, but I was just curious of other's experiences with stress fracutres.
  • Has anybody ever had a stress fracture in their leg? What does it feel like? What did you do for it?
  • My PT said for somebody working out regularly (I work out 5x week), I should eat as much protein as my body weight. So if you're 150 pounds, that's 150g of protein. It seems like a lot at first, but when you get used to eating more grilled chicken, fish, shrimp, and yummy chocolate banana protein shakes, it's not so hard!…
  • Thanks everyone for your responses! I will see how this goes for a few weeks. It sounds like some of you also plateaued on WW and switching to myfitnesspal really helped kickstart your weight loss again. I really enjoy being able to just post my meals and see all the nutrition! Have a blessed day!
  • I did WW in college and lost about 15 pounds. After gaining most of it back over the past couple of years, I decided to start counting my points again. The only problem is that I could lose 5 pounds counting WW points, but then the weight just stopped coming off. I finally met with a PT to ask him about it, and he told me…
  • Just an idea for some of you looking for motivation ... I started a "Biggest Loser" Challenge at work. Everyone who wanted to participate put $10 in the pot. We ended up having 12 people, so we nominated three captains, and then the captains drew names out of a hat to get their team of four. Each team then picked a name.…
