  • I need to lose more weight, but have several people tell me I look sick. They just have never seen a thin me before. Also, I do notice all of those "you have lost too much weight" comments come from people that are overweight.
  • Nothing magic about the shakes- in a day's time a caloric deficit is a caloric deficit. If you substitute a 500 calorie meal with chocolate milk, any meal replacement shake, or water you should lose weight Oh, yeah guys, SOY ALERT. Perhaps not a big deal for you ladies, but my breasts are large enough as it is, thank…
  • You do have to watch for sugars in the flavored greek yogurt. I opt for plain, 2%, unflavored cabot brand. I and add sugar free drink mix. Yeah, it's artifically sweetened, but it has an excellent protein to calorie ratio.
  • waist & hip measurements would be more consistent.
  • I think if you have that big of a caloric deficit and continue to work out that hard, you're probably gonna crash sooner or later. I can get too goal oriented also. I am paying the price for a plan that included rapid weight loss. Lose fast now and you will have to spend more time later rebuilding lost mass. A good…
  • I'm a night eater too. I've lost weight just fine eating at night. I try to save at least half of my day's caloric allotment for Supper and afterwards. I'm on just a slight deficit now, so this usually equates to 500-600 calorie each for breakfast and lunch, followed by afternoon 200-300 afternoon snack. I usually have…
  • In the Summer I add Morton salt substitute ( KCL) to my water. It is calorie free. It does give the water a slight salty taste, but it's not bad at all. I can't stand the stuff on my food though.
  • Eat the protein. Then, eat some more protein. Finally, you can finish the meal with some protein. Protein is not the devil.

  • No worries....Many in fitness community strive for 1g protein per pound of bodyweight or more.
  • 1 cup Fiber one cereal with vanilla protein mix for the "milk". 250 calorie, 30 gs of protein, and 28 gs of fiber- BAM!
  • Yep, I put it in my chocolate shake mix. It's great in there. I also sprinkle it over apples. the jar needs a shaker top.
  • This come up daily on the boards. We need a sticky........ If you are normal from a metabolic standpoint you can eat a lot of protein and suffer no ill effects. Many here in the fitness community strive for 1 g per pound of lean body weight. My daily goal is at least 200gs
  • I will say some physicians are more conservative than others about various therapys. My sister goes to a physician that specializes in weight loss, hormone therapy, and diet/digestive disorders. I think it's beneficial to see one that specializes.
  • I don't recall having a tipping point. Perhaps my medications made me forget it . I do recall thinking that everything is out of whack in the world today and I sometimes feel a bit frustrated where things are going. The one thing I could effect positive change on was my health and financial security. So I have…
  • Great job! Keep taking pics every ten pounds or so. I wish I had.......
  • PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TRY TO FEED YOUR HUBBY GROUND TURKEY!!! Nothing screams "diet food" worse than ground turkey. But look at the nutritional stats for ground turkey vs 90/10 ground beef, or even 85/15! Turkey has a little more protein, but that's it. IMO, The only thing you get for switching to ground turkey…
  • Hi Becky, and welcome! The poster has a great point. Look around the boards and you'll find quite a few active members that have manged to loose over 100 pounds by using My fitness pal. Be sure and give it a fair shot before you go for surgery. Regardless of your decision, good luck and best wishes.....
  • Lesson learned the expensive way here. I went from 3x to 2x and thought because of my frame size I'd probably not wear anything smaller, so I started buying some clothes. Then in the fall the 2x started to get baggy, and I began buying XLs because I couldn't get any smaller. A couple of weeks ago I bought my first Large…
  • No experience with fitbit, but wore a bodybugg my gym rented me for two weeks. I would not sign a long term monitoring contract. My daily calorie burn became so predictable I saw no reason to wear it indefinitely. the data is pretty redundant after a while, usually within a few hundred calories.

  • My reference in the thread to carbs is that IF it is an issue with Leptin, the best results to normalize leptin levels is a caloric surplus high carbohydrate diet for a few days. Lyle McDonald at bodyrecomposition has some great articles on leptin, and search engines will bring up a lot on the subject too.
  • Drifting off topic, but I don't understand the love people have with ground turkey...... Compare the stats of ground turkey with 85/15 ground beef-they're almost identical. My Sams club sells fresh 90/10 for 2.99/lb- it's lower in calories, tastes better(IMO), AND cheaper than ground turkey at the grocery store. Feed them…
  • There has been a lot of people that have reported improvement in various digestive some autoimmune disorders by going paleo. My wife has had some digestive issues and is finishing up a month of 90% paleo. In the month I think she has gained a couple of pounds and she doesn't feel much better than when she started. But it…
  • I finally hit a plateau in the latter stages big loss last year. I was working out six days a week and eating about 1800 calories a day, about 1200 below maintenance. My weight loss stalled, my pulse rate slowed to 48, and I experienced some other symptoms that led me to believe I may have some issues with the hormone…
  • I'm typically hungrier the day after a hard workout........
  • I had it for about four years. It's practically gone now, and attribute the majority of that to weight loss last year. My family did give me an electric shiatsu foot massager last year. I put under my computer desk and used it a couple times a day. It helped a lot also.
  • check out the reviews on gold standard /optimum nutrition. Its available on Amazon.
  • It's a very calorie efficient way to get protein. 20-25 Gs for 120-140 calories for most brands. It doesn't require refrigeration either. If you want to stay away from them but are watching calories chicken breast and greek yogurt are pretty efficient proteins
  • So if you drinking a coffee and add two sugars, that's thirty calories. I tried xylitol and thought it was great, until I saw that two teaspoons have twenty calories and is 5X the cost of sugar. I'm saving a measly 10 calories! I play the calorie game like most here but I decided it wasn't worth it. I can see where if your…
  • Well, I'm jealous. I have played with my diet enough to know that I can eat about 3300 calories per day and not gain weight. But if I was left to my own devices at all meals I would eat an easy 4K. Only by playing numbers games early in the day can I keep my calorie count low enough to lose or maintain without too much…
  • Diet looks pretty good in my uneducated opinion although you might want to track sodium. I weigh daily, and enter the data on a spreadsheet. I then average the last ten days weigh ins, so daily fluctuations are smoothed out. Probably the best weigh to track whether it is fat or muscle is keeping track of your waistline…
