  • Post workout is great. It's also not a bad idea to supplement when you first get up in the morning, or anytime your meal is protein deficient. I use a magic bullet blender and blend mine with ice. It's pretty good that way....
  • 1 % of your bodyweight per week is a good rule of thumb for maximum weight loss. Even that is tough to do for months on end. If you set an unreasonable goal from a time standpoint you will likely get discouraged and fail. Find a diet that you can live with for an entire year. The slow weight loss usually means a…
  • Keep calories in line. Keep protein consumption high to preserve lean mass. You can worry about the finer things if you want to, but don't sweat the sugar intake. You've got a long road ahead of you. The best diet you can be on right now is the one you can live with for a year. If it means having a little junk every day-…
  • I've heard some people say protein or fat works best for them. Fiber tends to work best for me. If I get hungry between meals I eat a high fiber cereal like fiber one original (the one that look like rabbit food) One cup of fiber one and a half cup of skim milk it is 160 calories. On a per calorie basis, That seems to be…
  • As long as I don't see the junk it doesn't bother me, and I usually don't go looking for it. I have my wife hide the junk food.
  • Another vote for quest bars. The fiber content should help you feel full. Not cheap though at around 2.00-2.50 each. I eat them while traveling to keep my fiber content up. Try the cinnamon roll flavor- pop in in the microwave for about ten seconds to soften it up. It tastes like a snickerdoodle cookie. Detour isn't bad.…
  • I was a little anal about Thanksgiving last year and actually counted calories. No more, I will enjoy the few holidays and family gatherings and enjoy the awesome food. I ate an entire full size PLATE of just desserts. As long as I don't let it turn into a six week orgy of food until New Years I'll be just fine.
  • Because of cost (and they're pretty good) I eat detour bars that I buy in bulk from Sams. They are about only .75 each. The quest cinnamon roll is very good and is probably the healthiest bar I've seen. I put it in the microwave for just a few seconds. It gets warm, soft. and tastes like a snickerdoodle cookie. If they…
  • Also, if you're on a severe caloric deficit you could be running out of energy reserves.
  • In the Summer I add morton's salt substitute to my drinking water. It's potassium Chloride. 1/4tsp is about 500 mg IIRC.
  • Incline walking will help activate the glutes and hamstrings. I like to trail run and I do quite well on the hills for a guy my size. I attribute that to the incline walking. I do 5 min at 15% pre workout. It's tougher than running at 6.5 mph.
  • As mentioned be prepared to gain a few pounds during transition. If you have a scale goal, you might want to overshoot your target so you won't freak out when this happens. I have a 5 lb acceptable range that I try to keep my weight in, but I'm a bit bigger. If you're active and stay away from crap, you'll be surprised how…
  • I like roasted pumpkin seeds.....
  • That heart rate profile looks similar to my rate when I do it. You are peaking but quickly recovering. I'm about to turn 47, I usually peak in the low 170s also. If you feel good doing it, why not continue the same protocol? BTW, What app is that?
  • I hate to revisit this topic, but you don't seem to grasp that you're eating fewer calories per day than what would be considered medically acceptable to feed a two year old. Infants are recommended 45 calories per day per pound. So, if you weighed about 14 pounds, 600 calories would be ideal. Whether or not your hunger…
  • 40c/30p/30f is fairly common ratios for athletes to use, so I'd say your is close enough. Just make sure it includes enough protein for you at that ratio. Whether it does will depend on the caloric goal.
  • I can tell you why you're hungry - you're starving yourself. YOUR DAILY GOAL IS 600 CALORIES. You're not doing yourself any favors eating that little.
  • RE: peak eight -Thirty seconds is the recommended interval time on the elliptical or bicycle. There are specific goals you should reach for if you're trying to get the benefits. Your should be approaching or meeting you maximal heart rate during the latter circuits, overheating(sweating profusely) and the muscles you're…
  • Yep you will find wide variations in all popular foods. Data is entered by members here. Some people obviously really suck at entering correct data. Look for sub missions that have a lot of verifications, but bottom line is you should personally verify the foods you consume on a regular basis. Back to the topic: Although…
  • We use other numbers in the US, which might account for the lack of responses. But comparing your numbers with the chart. I'd say no worries. There is a big push here in the US for statin drugs, My cardiologist is encouraging me to get on them, but I'm not willing to take them based on a marginally high LDL (117). I'm…
  • Walk today. Run tomorrow, walk the following day.
  • Yep, you can pretty much do a lot with dumbells and an incline bench. Be sure and check craigslist before you buy new.
  • Have a look at the timex T5G971. It will show calories burned. I assume it would do TDEE if you wore it for 24 hours. However, you would likely need to get electrode gel for the monitor strap.
  • I suffered form them for a few years. Getting the weight off really helped. Stretching the foot before bed helped some. One of the silliest things that improved it was a shiatsu food massage my family bought for me as a christmas gift. I sat it under my desk and used it while I was on the computer. it significantly…
  • Go to youtube and search peak 8 or sprint 8. The guy claims research says maximal benefit is reached at 30 seconds max effort. he recommends eight sets of 30 seconds max effort followed by 90 seconds slow speed recovery. If you do it right you'll be totally wiped by the last set.
  • I use Crystal lite drink mix or Sugar free coffee syrups.
  • I have seen much worse. Some would chastise you for not eating a lot of whole foods but many have proven you don't have to eat like that to lose weight However, you have a long journey and I would suggest being careful about losing too fast. A guy your size eating 1500 calories a day and exercising a bunch is a recipe for…
  • For you guys that like the tatse of PB pie. Try mixing peanut butter (or PB powder) with greek yogurt and some artificial sweetener. It is not a bad substitute.....
  • I've also done sprint 8 in the past. As DavPaul said if you do it right you are gassed and done for the day. After a few weeks I saw a noticeble drop in blood pressure, and my run times stayed steady even though I was not running much. Give it a try!
  • I've been in your shoes. I'm about 160 lbs off my scale high. A true 1800calorie /day diet (food measured and weighed) is pretty tough for a big guy, but will likely result in rapid weight loss. It is more important to stay the course, even if it means eating a couple hundred extra calorie per day. This will have to be a…
