  • I was more asking about weight loss trajectories as opposed to activity levels. Was trying to figure out what phase(s) you were in... Sounds like you're on summer vacation and perhaps a bit less stressed by the rewarding (but I am sure somewhat challenging) kiddos? [/quote] 🤦‍♀️ I am so sorry! I feel like such a doofus,…
  • So my activity level varies. If I had my choice, I would spend my days lounging and reading - so very sedentary! But I am a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) and work in our local school district. During the school year I spend my days with wrangling and teaching preschoolers (mainly, but sometimes older kiddos too)…
  • LONG time lurker here... Fair warning, I have a long history of disordered eating. Also, my metabolism is about 40% lower than what my stats suggest (I have had multiple metabolic assessments over the last 5 years). So even though my BMR SHOULD 1690, my actual BMR is barely over a thousand at 1010. During the pandemic I…
  • I feel your pain. I gained closer to 40 lbs this year and while the reasons make sense (lock down, gym closure/loss of activity, having to home school my child/lack of childcare and "me" time to workout, etc.), at the end of the day, they're all excuses (VALID excuses, but still excuses). For me (and I know many disagree…
  • I did have one planned for last spring, but it got put on the back burner with C9vid and everything else this past year. Thank you for the reminder!
  • Lots of glute work really has helped my lower back issues (although I deal with SI disfunction, not sciatica). If you uses good form (engage core and tuck pelvis) you *should* be safe doing basic glute activation exercises like bridges and thrusts. But of course, I would clear it with your doc.
  • I have been doing Strong Curves by Bret Contreras for a little over a month and I LOVE it. You can download his workouts for free, but I would highly recommend getting the actual book. I think it was a less than $20 on Amazon.
  • Thank you! I agree that counting still matters! I still log my food most days (I just fould that I like another app better for logging, but MPF has the best community IMO). I am still averaging about 1500-1600calories/ day. This should still keep me at a deficit (for what my BMR SHOULD be. It's just hard (and frustrating)…
  • I dont have thyroid issues, but I agree with getting your iron levels checked. This may not apply to you, but basic blood panels do not always catch my iron depletion. My hemoglobin can be normal, but my actual iron saturation can be dangerously low (sometimes as low as 3-4%). About every 9-12 months I get iron infusions…
  • OP - sorry for hijacking your thread! But thanks to those who offered advice and feedback to my question. You all made good points. Thank you again!
  • I have heard/ read similar things from carb restrictive groups. Basically, that additional protein beyond what your body can process at any 1 time gets converted to glycogen, aka sugar. So excess protein will make you a "sugar burner" as opposed to a "fat burner." Or something like that. 🤷‍♀️
  • Can you share what excercises you are do to strengthen the muscles around your knee? I can google it, of course, but I have chronic knee issues. (I have flat feet that can put strain on my knees. I have dealt with OA since childhood due to being heavy. And, my joints are hyper mobile so it is very easy to strain them by…
  • I do not have EDS, but I do have hyper mobility issues and many similar issues with chronic pain, easily injured joints, etc. I have fallen in love with Barre classes. Similar to Piyo, its low to no impact, strengthens the core, and uses body weight and/or light free weights to build strength. It is really the only thing…
  • OP again...I also forgot to add that I do track my food daily. I just use another app that I like better. So I am pretty confident that my general calorie ranges are fair.
  • OP here...Thank you all for your feedback! So, I have a bit more info that is both helpful, but also very discouraging. I has some testing done just this morning. According to my body scan, which takes into account my height, weight, body mass composition, and a ton of measurements, my BMR SHOULD be around 1701. However, I…
  • I admit, when I fall of the workout wagon, I fall hard and overindulge in crappy eating habits. But even on my worst days, i don't eat a lot, I just eat primarily processed/convenience foods. I would say, honestly, that 80% of the time I am easily under 1500 calories. Ocassionally, I have a huge binge. Especially when I'm…
  • Thank you so much! That is so informative and helpful. I know its not time to decrease anytime soon, but your feedback helps me know what I should expect perhaps.
  • Forgive me if I took your comments the wrong way. I guess I was put off by the assumptive and dismissive tone of your first paragraph. "None of that has anything to do with a ketogenic diet, which is all about altering your body's fuel source from glucose to ketones. You do that by starving your body of the foods from…
  • I am well aware of what a ketogenic diet is. I have researched it extensively for both professional and personal reasons for many years. And a comprehensive keto lifestyle does require nutrition derived from plants. So yes, I do successfully incorporate leafy greens and a few other vegetables thoughtfully into my diet…
  • I agree that I need to move smoking up on my priority list. This is not an excuse, but I just want to let everyone who has been kind enough to offer such thoughtful advice thus far know that I NEVER smoke around my child. He is 3 and I absolutely vigilant about not exposing him to my bad habits. No smoking in the house,…
  • I agree with you completely. I own my faults and hold ONLY myself accountable for MY poor choices. But looking back on it now, I am upset that he ever even planted that seed in my head. He never actually said that I SHOULD smoke, but he never passed along any info relevant on smoking other than, "people shouldn't…
  • I agree with you completely. I have a very compulsive personality. Ironically, when I was exercising regularly and quit smoking, my cardio performance got worse. My trainer actually told me that he wasn't surprised. He said smokers have better lung capacity because they are used to taking such deep breaths. (I have no idea…
  • Thank you all for the feedback so far. I just want to clarify a few things that I didn't include in my post. I am not too worried about the label "keto" and I don't think of it as a diet except if "diet" is used as a comparison to the standard American diet. In general, I have found that eliminating empty carbs, starchy…
  • The clunky feeling definitely has some emotional piece. I guess I was hoping to find "cute" and sleek shoes, but my foot requires a stability base. So inherently the best shoes for me are bigger and heavier. But even accepting that, in order to find a pair in which the widest part of my foot fit properly into the widest…
  • That is basically what he said. In order to find a good fit where the widest part of my foot fit properly into the widest part of the shoe we had to up the size. Even after tapping my heal, lacing properly, and running around for a few min, there was still almost 2 finger tip lengths from my big toe to the end of the shoe.…
  • The 2 that worked best were from Asics and Brooks. Both were stability models with a wider base. He said the sleeker, light weight shoes will never provide enough support.
  • Thanks everyone .I think I am on the right track (no pun intended), but I think I will try to see a second person to take a look. I didn't buy anything since I wasn't 100% sold and the shoes were $140. But, at least now some of his comments and strategies make more sense.
  • Bump. No recommendations? I feel like I am limbo.
  • I have been absent for a long time too. I just downloaded the app yesterday. I have gotten lax with focusing on myself and self care in general. In the last 6 mo, i have gained about 14 lbs. I didnt even realize it until i made myself get on the scale last week. I am not proud of it but I wasn't exactly motivated to do…
  • I met my husband for dinner after work last Tuesday. He gave me a funny look as I walked to the table where he was waiting. When I got to the table he said, "Did your boobs get bigger? The look huge!" I told him, "No, but my belly has gotten a little smaller. Thanks for noticing." I am down about 35 since April from 208 to…
