Anyone is free to add me. I'm a positive person and am super motivated and involved. I'm 5lbs down and am going to lose 50 total (probably - I might be satisfied at 40 so we'll see!)

A little roasted asparagus with a spritz of fresh lemon, some Marsala wine sauce (just reduce in the steak pan while the steak rests and you've got a beautiful sauce), and a huge glass of bold red wine. That's just about my perfect meal.

Wow, we have so much in common! Also 50 to lose here, I started a few weeks ago and am extremely motivated. I totally understand about making a big change from yo yo dieting and a sedentary lifestyle. For me, this time truly is different and I firmly believe that calorie counting and activity are key. Please feel free to…

Cottage cheese, chicken breast and non-fat lattes are my go-to's for protein!

Coffee Eggs Berries Nectarines/Peaches Cottage Cheese Real Maple Syrup Canadian Bacon Green leaf lettuce, romaine, spinach or kale. Chicken breast (I roast one or two every few days to have ready for salads, quesadilla or pizzas) Olive oil (for salad) Cheese (for salad, quesadillas or pizza) Nuts/dried/fruit/seeds/tortilla…

Maple syrup. Around 1/2 to 1 full tablespoon drizzled over a half to a full cup of cottage cheese. It was a big treat in my hippie household growing up, and it's still the only way I'll eat cottage cheese. It's one of my go to breakfasts right now. awesome for protein and calcium.

My story is very similar. I'm feeling pretty awesome actually, having cut waaaay back on my booze intake lately. I had a fun night and several drinks while camping with friends two weeks ago, but otherwise haven't touched it. I also believe that alcohol (and the choices I made while/after drinking - not exercising the next…

Hi mommas! Feel free to add me. I'm a 37 year old momma to a 3 year old boy. I'm five pounds into a fifty pound weight loss project and I'm changing my life and my lifestyle for good.

I'm excited for the next month or two, when I will have lost enough that it'll be noticeable enough for someone to comment! That is, comment in a low-key, positive way, not make a huge deal of it. I never mention other people's weight loss except for in a private moment, or to simply say "you are looking wonderful!". Or to…

Canadian here - my diary is not open but I log everything I eat, and anyone is welcome to friend me so they can check it out. I do the occasional cross boarder trip to Trader Joe's though, so some non-Canadian products might sneak in here and there:)

That's an awesome non-scale related goal!! I love it!

Oh I have totally been where you are now! I have been a major yo-yo dieter for the past three or so years (and on an off for three years before that), working hard and quickly losing 15 or so pounds, then pretty rapidly regaining those 15. This time is so much different though. This time is markedly different and I know…

Great ideas from tkillion810. I'm not low carb at the present, but I have been in the past. One of the things I found about it was that I generally was snacking less. I believe low carb proponents would chalk that up to having more steady blood sugar, and none of the blood sugar highs and lows associated with being hungry…

I like the way you think!! OP, Jamie Olive has a marvellous shrimp frittata recipe in Jamie's Italy - I'm sure you could find the recipe with a google search if you are interested. Also have you heard of 2 ingredient banana pancakes? They are an awesome flour-less higher protein pancake alternative. You basically mash up 1…

I'm surprised that you seem confused about what the OP is saying. They requested that this thread (if you read back) be for those recipes that lean towards the lower end of calories and fats. Recipes that posters feel are the "healthier" ones in their arsenal. I understand that some people need to debate and be contrarian,…

Vegan chili, breakfast burritos and chick pea curry come to mind for me!

I would definitely get one (but not the bracelet one) if I walked more, but even though I love walking for fitness it's just not in the cards lifestyle wise for me right now. I'm doing other workouts, at home, so the fitbit isn't for me. If I walked a lot I'd get one in a heartbeat!

Great ideas! Thank you so much! I haven't had great luck with oven fries in the past, I wonder if the salt + rest trick is the key.
-
Lots of great ideas here! For salmon, I like spreading the steak with brown sugar and dotting it with bits of butter (a little goes a long way for both), then a bit of Sriracha. Then roast in the oven - sweet and spicy! You probably don't need the butter and I might skip that ingredient next time. Other fish, I am really…

I've heard great things about House of Cards! Homeland is amazing, but I only watched the first season. I am hopelessly addicted to Orange is the New Black, but my husband would be so upset if I watched it without him:)

Those oven fries sound awesome! I think the OP is just looking for folks to contribute some food ideas that are on the healthier side (lower in cals, fats or carbs, whatever works for them) and recipes to go along with it. We don't need to nitpick the "diet" aspect of the question too much, I think:)

This is another favorite meal of mine! I'm crazy about roasted broccoli. The only recipe change I've made since making a commitment to a healthier lifestyle is that I used to toss the broccoli in LOADS of olive oil. It was delicious, of course, but I find that there's barely a difference with this method. Start with clean…

Do you find corn tortillas dry? I know they are often not labelled GF, but most authentic straight up corn tortillas will be gluten free, and if you can find some that are freshly made they are incredibly tender when prepared properly. I do find that a little oil helps a lot with that. I just brush my hot cast iron frying…

Those sound great - thank you! While I understand the reasoning behind the "eat whatever you want and fit it into your macros/calories" mindset, I personally am looking to make some changes in the nutritional content of the food that I eat, and in the way that I cook. I have always been very into food and cooking and have…

I have been really into some easy staples lately, here are a few! Banana Pancakes: mash one banana well and mix with two eggs. Cook and serve as you would pancakes - delicious and healthy! Quesadilla - not a recipe per se but an awesome satisfying healthy meal. I use a flour tortilla and always cheese, and add either…

Yes Scar Tissue is so great! What a pleasant surprise that book was! I just read an awesome book called Brain on Fire. It's a memoir written by a journalist who suffered an extremely debilitating brain condition in her 20's. It's quite an incredible journey. Cider House Rules is amazing. I also couldn't put down The Other…

To be honest, I have been preparing my food separately from my sons. He is in an insanely fussy stage and I am at a point with my commitment to eating healthy that I really need to not compromise with my food intake. There is some overlap of course, we often eat the same fairly plain and healthy breakfast - multigrain…

Awesome supper outside at my dad's place. Ground turkey tacos with cheddar and loads of vegetables and corn on the cob. Zevia stevia sweetened soda instead of beer. This is the first weekend in ages where I haven't had a drop of alcohol to drink. It definitely has helped to keep me in check!

Thank you for this link! It was very enlightening! I always get a jolt of sadness and anxiety when I hear women refer to themselves as "whales," especially women so much smaller than I. Language is so powerful.

This! Yes it totally depends on how active you are. If you are standing behind a wall slamming windows all day, not too much. But if you're running around covering a bunch of the house, jumping and sweating in a costume you will burn loads of calories! I would guess as much as a construction worker (I think I spotted…
