  • There you go - I do think doing a lot of cooking from scratch helps loads. Another thing about sushi I just thought of. I am such a nigiri fan and I did notice that the calories and carbs often seem quite low for it, so I do add about half cup of rice to my meal since my sushi local does make huge nigiri.
  • With something like California roll you are going to get loads of variations, for sure! Sometimes the packaged kids come with nutrition values, and in that case use that. Otherwise I tend to go by sushifaq.com, though I did kind of arbitrarily arrive at that decision. I find in general I am eating in more and cooking so I…
  • I'm a 14/XL now but I'd be absolutely shout it from the rooftops thrilled to be a size 8 and wear a medium in most stores.
  • Sorry! My comment was meant for this post. That is such a powerful NSV - thank you for sharing, I am so moved right now! Congratulations to you.
  • I'm lounging around my house right now, WEARING A BRA. An underwire bra! It's usually the first thing to go when I get home, replaced with a comfortable stretchy pullover one. But I haven't actually gone anywhere today and I've been wearing the underwire for hours now without even noticing it. Same thing the other day when…

  • Mmm it was so good! Sesame Spiced Turkey Meatballs from the Smitten Kitchen cookbook. I actually forgot the sesame seeds so they were more like "Spiced Turkey Meatballs," but delicious with cumin, coriander, cayenne and paprika. Also raw bell peppers and some basmati rice as well as a side of a quick refrigerator pickle I…
  • Mmmm, I love smoked salmon! I've been eating loads of lox lately, and have my first ever homemade gravlax in the fridge right now. Hot smoked is great too! This is generally how I eat it: By itself - quick protein snack With (mixed in or on the side) gently scrambled eggs and a few nice capers on top With toast, light…
  • I just want to say good for you for reaching out of your comfort zone with your cooking and eating! I think it's absolutely awesome that you are doing so. There is such an exciting world of food out there for you to discover! For beginner cooking, I strongly suggest the Mark Bittman app How to Cook Everything. There is a…
  • I can't answer the question about your calorie intake, but I can relate to the Paleo restrictions. I have had weight loss success in the past with Paleo, but I also found the restrictions were not conducive for a long term lifestyle (for me). Whatever your end decision is for your calorie intake, it sounds like you have a…
  • Me too on the Zevia! So far I love the lemon lime, ginger root beer and ginger ale flavors. GREAT soda alternatives! The grape was okay too, but did leave a touch of an aftertaste for me.
  • I would say I'm fairly careful with the other numbers. For me, the most important one is protein, since I find if I eat a good amount of it throughout the day, I'm more satisfied and have better energy. The calorie count is the most important for me as well though!
  • I do keep an eye on my sugar intake, and track it instead of sodium in my diary. Yes indeed, a little fruit goes a long way for that sugar count! I prefer to stick to the 45g a day sugar limit that mfp gives me, so if I have a few pieces of fruit then I really have to avoid other added sugars in my food. I'm checking my…
  • If you look up recipes from the Paleo diet, you will find loads of healthy low carb options. When I was eating (somewhat) that way, I pretty much had: Breakfast: Greek yogurt with fruit, or eggs and fruit or veggies, lean meat and fruit or veggies Lunch: cold plate with cheese, olives, vegetables, leftover meats, hard…
  • I'm not planning regular cheat meals and I do find that even with a low daily goal (1200 at this time), I can sometimes swing having something nice and extra when I either make a switch (like last nights zucchini "zoodles" instead of wheat pasta, so I could have a richer sauce and some wine) or get a good workout in.…
  • Hi! I would probably just add the brand that I am using to the database, if there was that much of a discrepancy and it was an item I eat regularly!
  • I'm also in the camp of eating a lot of repeat meals. I find it takes the guesswork out of my meal planning, keeps my food budget lower, and helps me grab a healthy option during those hangry moments. I eat a lot of: cottage cheese, fruit, eggs, mulitgrain bread or celery with peanut butter, green salads with protein, pita…
  • I have a few possible rewards I've been tossing around in my head - I might make them officially part of my goals, not sure. Probably more than $100 a piece though! After I reach my big goal of 50 pounds, and keep it off I'm thinking about a tattoo or two (always loved them and wanted one but never felt good enough about…
  • I'm shocked! I love cumin but caraway is the devil. Not a fussy eater at all but I've never been able to stand the stuff. This recipe looks awesome though! I was just inputting a Reuben Sandwich into the recipe calculator tonight, feeling a craving. I'll try to get my hands on some fat free half n' half, though I'm scared…
  • Thank you so much for this excellent post! You are showing so much personal insight, I believe that you truly are going to end this cycle this time around. So much of what you wrote resonated for me, I'm marking this thread to look back at when, inevitably, I find myself down a similar path. The meal sounds wonderful, and…
  • Oh I want to go to this dreamy sounding Alpine retreat! What a heavenly day! If we could only all be so rich and fabulous. :) But I'd like to add a nice crisp lake to dip into, followed by a soak in a natural hot spring. OP, I like this topic! It's fun and surprisingly there are a few great meal ideas in there.
  • Hello! I don't know what zebra cakes are but I can be a motivational friend! I probably won't critique what's in your diary if that's what you are looking for, but I'll be here for support and cheers. :) I have similar goals and have lost 7.5 of the 50 that is my big goal.
  • I'm 5'4 and am losing fifty - 7 down and 43 to go! Add me if you'd like. I'm super motivated:)

  • A tsp is a level teaspoon, measured with a measuring spoon (not cutlery). This applies both in baking and calorie counting!

  • Currently wearing a top that I bought too snug a few months ago, that's been sitting in my dresser ever since. Didn't touch any of son's mac and cheese leftovers last night (all you mommas who graze off your kids plates know what I mean here). Went an entire weekend without a drop of alcohol, for the first time in years.…
