  • Good to know guys, thanks for the input. I can definitely see myself continuing with the protein shakes once I hit maintenance. I like them, and I'm chronically busy, so if it's not hurting anything I think I'll stick with it.
  • You can also accidenally put it into "sleep" mode by tapping it rapidly. It can be tricky to wake it up, sometimes I have to sit there and rapidly tap it for a minute or more. Still, it doesn't happen that often.
  • Makes sense. I feel tired after a workout, but not in pain. I haven't strained any muscles, I'm not grumpy, and insomnia is sure not a problem for me! Honestly, I feel good for the most part. Besides... If I don't excercise staying under my calorie limit for the day is really hard! I like that I can eat a little more…
  • It happens. You should get one of those scales that measures body fat %. My coworker just bought one for $50 on amazon. I have the fitbit aria, which I love, because I can see the results even when I'm not loosing weight.
  • That is a HUGE difference! You look sexy!
  • My nearest goal is 160. I know that still puts me in the overweight category, but I weighed that before and felt really good. So I decided to get there, and then reassess.
  • Chicken wings are a very traditional part of football games and are low in calories (depending on the sauce) and high in protein!
  • I am a single mom with a full time job and a long commute... I came home one day and my son was BEGGING me to play a game with him. I just told him I was "too tired..." He said I'm ALWAYS too tired to play with him. I realized he was right and that I was missing out on his childhood because I'm just "too tired" to be a…
  • We also have a lot of baked goods hanging around the office, and a chocolate bowl that is always full. Anytime I am tempted I pull out a healthy alternative from my desk. I like the Kashi cookies. I get that chocolate chip (or double chocolate) and its got healthy ingredients and only 130 calories. I'm not saying I'm…
  • I think you look healthy. Slim, but not too skinny. You look great in a bikini. If you want to gain muscle for your own satisfaction, nothing wrong with that. But I think you look great.
  • I started excercising to dailyburn.com's Total Beginner videos. Its all about increasing mobility and stability while burning calories. Its pretty good! I also make sure to stretch for at least 15 minutes before any type of workout, and that is key to avoiding injuries. If you have access to a gym I recommend the regular…
  • Well I'm not diabetic, but I also crave carbs and struggle with hunger. Its easier when I eat protein. I have low calorie yogurt, boiled eggs, lite cheese sticks, and grilled chicken to tide me over. It helps.
  • I mostly drink mio water.
  • Did you know that although this drink is seasonal at Starbucks its available year round at most independant coffee shops? I just get a no whip non fat pumpkin spice latte and eat a little bit lower calorie foods throughout the day to make up for it. :)
  • It sounds like you may be dealing with PCOS. Take a look at this link and see if it applies to you. It it does, see a doctor, there are treatments to reduce the symptoms of PCOS: http://www.webmd.com/women/tc/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos-topic-overview Two of my sisters and I have PCOS, and have to deal with being prone…
  • I just don't put too much pressure on my self, and don't make changes too quickly. I make sure to be honest with my food log (even when I fall off the wagon) so that I can see patterns in the graph that educate me about my habits. I log my food from my phone if I am at a restaurant, so that its quick and easy. I work…
  • I heavily rely on Dannon Light & Fit vanilla yogurt with blue berries on top. Low calorie and tastes sweet. Plus the protein really keeps my hunger down. Its a lifesaver.
  • Hi Danielle, I'm Sarah. Feel free to add me I am very active on the site, and I focus on positive reinforcement, not negative comments. I am relatively new as well.
  • I disagree that nutrients and hormones play NO role at all. But in most cases they are minor. I have PCOS, which does make it harder to lose weight. You might check this link out: http://www.webmd.com/women/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos-and-weight-gain Still, PCOS is an obstacle, nothing more. It doesn't make it…
  • That diet is too restrictive to work for me (I'd fall off the wagon), but I am also not judging you. You have to go with what works for you, and what makes you feel good. And who doesn't love bacon and eggs??? Am I right?
  • I would like to clarify that although I love my fitbit, it is not the only device that works, and there are a lot of great alternatives. The Jawbone Up got excellent reviews, and has some cool features that the Fitbit lacks. It does cost more though. The Garmin devices are great for people who run outside. As I run on a…
  • Look, I am not suggesting that you yo yo diet. I am suggesting that you need both fat and muscle to be healthy. You gained some fat. Thats good! It is an accomplishment that you should look on positively! And your next step is to gain muscle. You are not correcting a mistake, you are continuing on the path to a healthy…
  • You're dietician may not mean to come across in a negative way like that. However, I understand how important it is to have a person you trust as a care provider. It took me a long time to find a doctor I felt comfortable with. If your dietician is not a good fit, then by all means, I would switch. By the way, gaining 10…
  • You are probably right! I think meditation for me is probably harder than pull ups! I'm on the GO GO GO so much, that all I can think about when I try to meditate is all the things I accomplished that day, and what I have left to do. Then I start to get antsy because I start to think about all the things I could could be…
  • Thanks everyone for the awesome advice so far. My mom does Zumba, and I thought about doing it too, but I was a little shy about dancing with other people there to see me. I think I probably just need to get over that though! Overall, I actually enjoy excercising. I especially like the treadmill (don't laugh) because I can…
  • I started excercising before I started dieting. I like to eat! So it was easier to start with an excercise routine, and then ease into a healthier diet.
  • I love my fitbit flex. It keeps me motivated and I have friends (online and real life) that I try to match or beat. I excercise way more now that I have one. It isn't 100% accurate, but does seem to be more accurate than just using MFP by itself. On a side note, you can get extra bands in all kinds of colors for pretty…
  • Food addiction is a very real thing, and is more widespread than people realize. Learning to cook won't solve your problem if you still have this addiction. The worst thing about food addiction is that you can't eliminate it from your life completely. Can you imagine being a recovering alchoholic who has to take a shot 3…
  • That's awesome! I've never had the patience to fish, but I love to eat a fresh catch! Its too bad your family isn't more open to the idea of a healthy diet. And between you and me, its ok to fall off the wagon every now and then as long as it doesn't turn into a binge. I give myself one cheat day per week. That way I have…
