  • No swim today, unless you count the pool of sweat I'm currently swimming in. Ugh, it's bloody hot. The husband's vehicle broke down and won't be repaired until Monday so we're working with just one vehicle. He's taking my truck tomorrow so I think I'm going to have to swim crazy early tomorrow. Otherwise I'll have to ride…
  • kida, that's my next goal but I haven't even attempted to practice yet because of the embarrassment factor. I need someone to teach me!
  • I so did not want to swim today. And then I was just going to do a quick workout. And then it turned into a mile. Is it safe to say I'm hooked? 1/3 mile 3:30 rest 1/3 mile 3:30 rest 1/3 mile All freestyle, nonstop within the set. Total time in the water - 50 minutes. Active swimming time - 43 minutes.
  • I fight the post swim hunger by planning ahead. I know it will do that to me, so I eat a protein packed meal or snack 15-30 minutes before hitting the pool, and then I plan on either a snack or meal after, usually something high in volume but low in calories, like celery and cucumbers or a salad. I don't have the story…
  • Wait - you're an actor? I teach theatre in real life! I tend to sing showtunes to myself. Today I was singing "the ants go marching in" as a way of remembering which lap number I was on. Of course, that was in my head...mostly...except that one time when I forgot my head was in water and I opened my mouth to sing...Oops.
  • Another full mile today, and I did 1/3 mile freestyle, nonstop! I'm getting stronger
  • Yoga only today. Back in the water tomorrow!
  • Fishgutzy, i just ordered one yesterday. I hope i like it!
  • Curly girl, I had that same thought as I walked from the locker room to the pool today :)
  • I love this! I was just thinking today that I need a new way of keeping track of laps; I was ok up to 4 but now I'm losing track and it's no bueno. Twice today I couldn't remember if I was on 4 or 5! A - Alive, Active, B - Beauty, Bliss, Balanced C - Caring, Compassionate, Confident D - Daring, Disciplined E - Energetic,…
  • Hi! Welcome! You will soon be addicted, I am sure of that.
  • Thanks Cheshire! I swam a mile again today. A little faster than yesterday, so that was nice! Right now I'm swimming it in 1/4 mile segments, so my next goal is to get to 1/3 mile segments.
  • cheshire, that sounds right up my alley. I was just telling H last night that I have no desire to do an open water swim but that if I want to do any kind of race or tri, it seems like that's the only option. I need to check and see if there's anything like that near us.
  • I DID A MILE TODAY! Granted, I had to do it in quarter mile segments with a short rest (about 2 minutes) between each, but still. I DID A MILE!
  • 1650 yds 200 free/50 kick/50 back/100 free w/pull buoy Timed 50, 0:54 200 free/50 kick/50 back/100 free w/pull buoy Timed 50, 0:51 200 free/50 kick/50 back/100 free w/pull buoy Timed 50, 0:51 250 free Timed 50, 0:48 Two things - one, can someone teach me how to swim on my back in a straight line?! I am all over the lane.…
  • 1500 yds today. 3x 150 free/50 kick/150 free 1x 200 free/50 kick/200 free A total of 60 lengths - just 12 more until I'm doing a mile!
  • I was just thinking today that I need to start using the pull buoy because my arm strength is no bueno. I can kick all the the livelong day and not think a thing of it, but my arm and back muscles are weak so my stroke cadence is slow. So yeah, strength for me for sure.
  • That is awesome and terrifying and just reinforced why I wear a sports bra under my swimsuit!
  • I don't think I've had that pleasure (yet, I'm sure it will happen at some point), but the guy in the lane next to me was pacing me the other day. It was creepy. I'm not sure how long it went on - 10 or 15 minutes probably? - he was right next to me. So weird.
  • It's not just you. And given that I teach theatre, it's generally musical theatre songs!
  • 3.5 hours in the water today - but in the yak, not swimming! Works a lot of the same muscles as swimming free does, and boy am i feeling it now. Tomorrow could be an interesting day in the pool.
  • Thank you :-) I was shocked I only lost 6 seconds, actually. It was the end of the workout, I was beat, and my turns were slow and ridiculous because I was so tired. But, as out of shape as it is, my body is trained to kick it into high gear in the 7th inning...or the last sprint, as it were. It feels good to realize all…
  • Today: 150 free/50 kick/150 free 150 free/50 kick/150 free Timed 100 (1:52) 150 free/50 kick/150 free 150 free/50 kick/150 free Timed 100 (1:58) Total of 56 lengths. I was in the water 50-55 minutes, but I estimated that 40 was active. The other 10-15 were me gasping for air and getting water :D Just 16 more lengths to a…
  • ha ha! Me too, I run into the ropes quite often when I'm sharing a lane. Oops! Yesterday was frustrating and wonderful. Frustrating because the swim team took over the pool at 3:30, which wasn't on the published schedule. Apparently that is happening at 3:30 M-Th now. Oh well, at least I know. But wonderful because....I…
  • For me it was the hours. Swim team practiced at 5 or 6 am. My parents couldn't make that work with their work schedules, but I also wasn't keen on getting up early enough for that. High school swim team practiced after school, so I could have done that, and did consider it my freshman year, but by that time I was playing…
  • 1200 today. My endurance is increasing - I did 4 sets of 100 free, 50 kick, 100 free with a 2 minute rest/water break in between, and then I ended with a 200. Yay me!
  • Definitely go to a bike shop and try a bunch of things. I have a comfort bike that I adore (Electra Townie). It's comfortable, fits me well, makes me happy, is easy to ride. Husband got a road bike and decided I should have a road bike too, since we were doing a ton of riding, generally going 30 miles or so round trip, and…
  • nada yesterday or today as I decided a virus in my tonsils would be a brilliant way to spend my time :-/ Planning to be back in the pool tomorrow! The distances you guys do are inspiring - I'm lucky to be able to do 100 without having to stop for a kickboard break.
  • For me it's usually a yogurt (I have an unhealthy love for Chobani Flips), Luna/Clif/Kind bar, hard boiled egg or cottage cheese in the car as I make the mad dash from work to the pool. Now that it's summer (teacher schedule!), I can do whatever I want, but I still tend to do some sort of small protein snack before I swim…
  • Thanks for the wet welcome, y'all! It's nice to be among my people ;-)
