  • I managed to gain almost 30 lbs in the last 1.5 - 2 years. I'm tired of feeling discouraged and beating myself up for it. I know that I am capable of getting the weight off if I stay motivated. The last time I had this much to lose, I did it and kept most of it off for almost 7 years. As I've gotten older, the challenges…
  • I'm looking to lose 25-30 lbs, too. Just saw a nutritionist today so I'm feeling more accountable. Feel free to add me.
  • I'm also tired of reading about improper counting and weighing. I'd doing the same thing I was doing when I was losing (and maintaining) in the past. Sadly, my body is not responding the same. I fully understand that a calorie is a calorie, but I also understand that my 40 something body does not respond the same as my 30…
  • Thanks ladies. I will meet with the nutritionist at the end of January (assuming my insurance covers) and I'll let you know what she says.
  • I work with the Chief of the Food Police, so I have an idea of your frustration. But for me, it is not so much that said chief gives advice, it is more the passive spouting of (often incorrect, or at the very least, matter of opinion) information on what works and what does not. What is good and what is bad, etc. I'm…
  • I have been doing this for a number of years. It does work. When I use larger plates, I find I fill them on 'auto pilot', not because I'm hungry for all that I've put on there. By using the smaller plate, I eat a smaller portion automatically (even though I've also weighed and measured it. ha) and if I'm truly still…
  • Cocktail sauce is a great alternative to butter if you're needing to save a few calories or just don't like butter. I use it with lobster, crab legs and steamed clams more often than butter these days. Extra calories for wine!
  • Craft beer!
  • 1. Middleswarth BBQ Potato Chips! If I even smell them you will find my head at the bottom of the Weekender size bag. 2. Craft Beer (stouts and porters). Funny how well the two go together. :drinker:
  • Wow, lots of pages I need to read through later, sorry if I'm repeating... I have a 'friend' who belongs to a particular diet cult (not naming names). Generally, I don't have any issue with the plan, if that is your things, but it is not one I would do long-term, nor one I really care to do short term. That's just me. But…
  • Not sure what Oskar Blues is. Where is it from? Not sure that is available in the NE region. But if it is good, I'll search around. I have a few connections.
  • Ha! I know. Tough to do, but the summer's are often lower cal. The fall/winters are the ones that give me my extra insulation, aka winter 'coat'. Nothing like a nice, heavy stout! We're still finishing up the Chocolate Peanut Butter stouts in our fridge. Heaven in a pint glass. Oh, and the Duclaw Cocoa Fuego…
  • We enjoy Troeggs. Do they have a summer beer? (Can't believe I don't know this answer!) We've been planning to get there on a day trip, eventually. Only 2 hours, pretty easy drive...well, by PA/ 1-81 standards, which are pathetically low. :frown:
  • LOL. Danville is about 45 minutes away from me. We just spoke with a couple last week that suggested we go there for a sampling. Old Forge Pizza is all over NEPA. Perhaps our little claim to fame based on sheer uniqueness. Have you ever tried Susquehanna Brewing Co (not sure that is Craft, exactly..) or Breaker Brewing…
  • Love Pieroni, too. Great with Old Forge (my neck of the woods) style pizza. I also love Thirsty Dog Raspberry Ale in the summer. Great suggestions. Any that anyone has are appreciated. I'm in the North East region. Our distributors can get a lot of things (sometimes West Coast things are easier than East Coast stuff, go…
  • I love Goose Island. Great beers, all seasons!
  • No craft beef lovers out there?
  • I used to do W.W. I am still technically a lifetime member, I guess. I lost 30 lbs with WW about 5 or 6 years ago. Sadly, over the last few years I've managed to 'find' 15 of those pounds. Not WW's fault, it's all mine! When I decided I needed to take care of this before I find the other 15 lbs, and perhaps a few of…
  • Too true. I should probably keep my mouth shut 'cuz I'm all for tank tops in a gym, especially in summer. :drinker:
  • Interesting. I belong to a PF near my home. I see women in tank tops there all the time. Perhaps some franchises enforce that rule more than others. Maybe an employee got a little overzealous? Can't say. Personally, I didn't find the woman in question's clothing to be offensive, especially for a workout, but I can see…
  • I find I really eat a lot of the same basic foods over the course of a week or two so I find logging pretty quick and easy. Once you've built up a 'frequent foods' or 'my meals' list, logging is just a matter of selecting the item and verifying the portion size. For me, weighing and measuring is the worst, most time…
  • I laughed til it hurt when I read this.
  • Food is fuel. Food is not love.
  • Glad you asked this question. I also have a nicotine (Nicorette) addiction that has been going on for years. Sadly, I actually like the taste! (The original flavor....yes, I'm the oddball that likes it.) The last time I tried to quit I switched to sugar-free gum. It worked, sort of. The problem was, I ended up with a nasty…
  • I am a confessed diet soda junkie. I've been drinking it for many, many years. And over those years, my consumption of it has only increased. I could easily drink 2 liters a day (maybe more!) However, any time I have needed to lose weight, it has never hindered me. I also have never had any negative side effects using…
  • This doesn't sound right. I can't imagine any plan that considers pasta as a free food. I've done Weight Watchers in the past, though not the Core program so I could be wrong, but I don't remember pasta and potatoes being free on any of their plans. Lean meats? Probably, since they are very filling, but? It seems odd to…
  • I think this sounds like a great diet. I don't really like rat, but 800 cals worth of lizard and worms might be nice jump start. Great core workout keeping perched on branches, too.

  • I used to think that. But in my line of work, I know or hear from a lot of entrepreneurs and successful business people. They all discuss the many failures they had before achieving success. I started to think of my weight loss in the same light. Failures happen. And that is where the wisdom comes from. You learn what…
