It's really tasty and filling. I do the nighttime cook method and let them soak overnight. When I get up in the morning, all I have to do is reheat them. Two eggs and steel cut oats prepared in 7 minutes. Voila!

I hear you about finding an article of clothing that is awesome but is one size down. It can be a great motivator. I found a slim fit button down shirt that was on sale and 1 size under. I'm soooo close to rocking it on a night out. My advice: buy it. If it doesn't fit on your birthday, it'll fit at Thanksgiving, or…

I think skullshank is on target and tracking. Look at the link he provided you. In a nutshell what everyone is trying to say is, given your weight and the caloric goal you think is good, it's actually too low to sustain. If I were a betting man, I would bet that you could manage a 1,200 calorie a day diet for 10 days tops…

To the OP: Looking at your diary you had 800 calories remaining today to meet your daily goal to continue losing weight. Even if you ate an additional 400 calories to reduce your cravings, you're still coming in under. On days that I exercise, I consume almost 3,000 calories and still meet my daily goals and weekly goal of…

What kind of oatmeal? Rolled, steel cut, plain, flavored?

Quite a few of us diabetics follow Dr. Bernstein's LCHF routine and have found great success in weight loss and normalized blood sugar numbers. In his book, Diabetes Solution, he explains why fat is not the enemy.

For my steel cut oats, I add a dash of cinnamon and mash my blueberries to release the sugars. If you would've told me a year ago I would truly enjoy my oats this way, I would've sent you for a drug test. LOL. For other foods, I really don't need to sweeten. I'm trying to think of things I would need sugar for and I can't…

This is my beef with the ADA. They recognize and suggest artificial sweeteners. I even questioned them once on their FB page and they stuck to their position. There are enough medical studies coming out today that show artificial sweeteners are not beneficial. The one hidden disaster to them is they can raise triglycerides…

This. In the book I recommended in the other thread, he talks about meal plans and carb allowances. I follow a LCHF diet for lunch and dinner. I love my steel cut oats in the morning with fresh blueberries too much and it doesn't raise my blood sugars.

I suppose with total disregard for diet and neglecting treatment, yes, a shorter life expectancy can be expected. The big thing is to not get to that point. Bellyemporer, I can feel the fear in your posts. We all have those fears. I guess the only advice I can offer is the healthier you get, the more you control your…

You can buy a nifty attachment called "bar ends" for mountain bike handlebars. They used to be standard on all the bikes a few years ago. Cost: $25. Basically they are extensions that attach onto the ends of your bars. The advantage to these is you can grip these when you climb, allowing you to get out of the saddle and…

I'm glad you're not sitting around. Keep up the good work and with a round turn on things, you should start seeing your numbers drop pretty quick. :)

What style of handlebars do you have? Mountain bike or road bike? You can try to raise your handlebar stem up a little, like an inch. Keep your elbows bent and roll your shoulders forward just a bit. There's nothing wrong with having a good grip while climbing hills but continuously doing that will tighten everything up.

It's your position. I get a little sore in the shoulders towards the end of my 2 hour cycling club rides which is a reminder that my form is getting weak (and often my body's way of telling me I'm an a-hole for riding two hours  )

I'm all in agreement that the term has different meanings to most. I'm a T2 diabetic so my idea of clean eating is pretty different from a non-T2. However, when I see someone write in a post that they are "eating clean" I get the concept of what they are trying to say and don't derail the topic.

Try cooking it in reduced sodium chicken stock with carrots and celery. When it's almost done cooking, add some red table wine (not the cooking kind) to finish it off. Delish.

You look hot! I noticed your hair as well. There is a total change in your disposition between the side by side pictures. It's very noticeable in a good way. Thanks for sharing your story.

I feel you about the family stress. My advice: exercise at the hotel each morning, be conscious about what you eat but don't sweat it. It's only 3 days- getting healthy is for life. Take the $100 and put it somewhere safe. When you meet a big goal, treat yourself to a massage or something non-food related.

Gotta disagree with you on that one. I was born and raised in central PA, lived in Pittsburgh, and now live in Philly. The food scene is way better in Philly. It's much more cosmopolitan which allows for a healthier and diverse culinary scene.

How does one boot someone from a thread?

Hi Wendy! It's very natural to feel scared. Take this as an opportunity to get things on track. For me, being diagnosed was a blessing in disguise. I'm the fittest I've been in 20 years. After the gathering stage you might feel you're in the hopeless stage because everything will feel so confusing. You will read so much…

I'm laughing. I'm crying. I'm covering my eyes. There's so much win (the replies) and fail (the gifs) in this thread.

This. I've let some friends go to my outer circle but I've made some really awesome new close friends.

Do you want to die in your 40's? That should be motivation enough. You're young. You can make changes and live a long happy life. Or you can feel sorry for yourself and not put in any effort. I've been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and then burned it. I regret all the years I wasted looking for the easy way out.

What were your starting numbers (fasting glucose and a1c)? If you ask 10 people with diabetes, you'll get 10 different answers because we all react to the foods we eat differently. With that said, I think we'd all agree to eliminate high fructose corn syrup and simple sugars, processed flours, and to begin an exercise…

I'm in the same boat. A bunch of first dates and no seconds. About 90% of the time I'm the one who bails after the first date. The number one reason why is because of inaccurate photos. I just have a hard time meeting someone who looks completely different than their photos. It's not about their appearance, it's about the…

Feel free to say hi as much as you'd like. :)

This is the most eloquent way to get your point across.

Next time you're at the soccer field waiting on the kids, look up the nutrition information at the place you want to eat before you go so you can make the proper choice before ordering.

I had all four wisdom teeth taken out while I was in boot camp. I had mine removed while I was awake (not a pleasant experience). Anyways, for dinner that night they gave me fried chicken, potato chips, and jello. No joke. Long story short, be careful what you eat for a day or two but you'll find yourself being able to eat…
