I've tested 3 times with each meter side by side and they seem to be only a difference of 5 points off between each other (the One Touch is higher). I'm ok with that difference.

I kinda tell myself the same thing. I always say I'm one plate of pasta away from having diabetic numbers again.

My primary meter is the One Touch Ultra. I get 50 test strips monthly for free. I've been doing a lot more testing in the afternoons and evenings so I went and bought the Target brand meter (Up&Up) and a 100 test strips for $50 (for meter and strips). A box of 100 strips runs $36.00. It's not as cheap as the WalMart…

I was expecting to read they ate a whole family sized bag. I used to house a giant bag of Ms. Vickie's jalapeño flavored kettle chips weekly. *sigh* I miss them.

Thanks Lynn. I'll look into it.

The guest speaker for that night was a "life coach" so it wasn't diabetic specific but more of a how to stay motivated in life and stuff like that. The doctor who runs the group did a face palm when he saw the donuts. After the meeting, he said it never occurred to him to tell the guest speaker not to bring donuts to a…

It is interesting talking to other diabetics. We all tend to have our little secret methods of success. I have to watch my cholesterol so it's a delicate balance. In terms of importance, managing my cholesterol is a little higher than diabetes. That's not to say my diabetes takes a back seat but I've found by managing my…

I've been bad at logging my daily miles (usually logging minutes) but I looked at my odometer that I reset to 0 on Aug 1 and I'm at 166 miles. I'm right about where I want to be for my 300 goal.

Great....now I want hollandaise sauce in the worst way. Yum! A thick slice of ripe tomato, Canadian bacon under a poached egg with a dollop of hollandaise sauce and a pinch of cayenne to round it out. Yum, yum, yummmmm.

I'm not really a fan of the ADA. In my opinion they are not aggressive enough. 180 is way too high in my opinion. It's like they're afraid to say it like it is. For every one person like us who's trying to make improvements, I'd wager there are 10 who eat what they want because they are on meds. My doctor tells me nothing…

What a great motivator to keep going. I wish you the best!

I realize I've only been here a month but I've dug fairly deep in the threads to read. With that said, can someone point me in the direction of a post where a poster actually said "a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat" and actually meant it? Instead what I keep seeing are threads such as this or threads about…

I had to drink a whole bottle of magnesium citrate once. Whoa, Nelly. That stuff will clean you out like nobody's business. You have to dedicate a whole night to the john.

Great idea!

T2 here. My breakfast is: -1 serving of steel cut oats w/ 1/2 cup fresh blueberries (I add the blueberries in the beginning and cook them to release more of the sugar for flavor) *no other sugar is added, not even a zero calorie sweetener -1/2 cup of egg whites with 1/4 tsp olive oil (to cook in) -2 Tbsp of homemade salsa…

MrsMark- I am what would be considered a clean eater. You are correct in your concerns about sustaining that menu. The menu appears to be more inline with someone already at the competitive level or reasonably in shape stage, which makes sense given the person who set you up with that menu. Following a diet plan from a…

I'm still guilty of saying "3 squares a day". Hehe. With regards to clean eating being used decades ago, I mostly heard it in the gym setting. I used to read it in the old Muscle Media magazines, etc.
-
Just as an FYI, the term "clean eating" has been around for decades. It's not a new buzz word but may feel that way due to the power of social media with regards to the insane amount of people it reaches. We used that term 25 years ago when I was heavy into weightlifting and was used years before that.

How did you come up with that number? That seems a little high for someone at your weight.

You're eating a lot of processed food/ bought food which tends to be high in calories but adds little nutritional value. Make more things from scratch, eat more vegetables and lean proteins which are filling and lower in calories. And consider lowering your weight loss goals from 2lbs a week to 1.5lbs a week to give you…

That's a good challenge. I'm going to see if I can do it when I shop this weekend. I've had to drastically reduce my shopping bill. When I was employed full time, I never took cost into account when I shopped. I just bought what I wanted. Now that I'm a poor college student on a fixed budget, The $4.99 cherub tomatoes in…

I have a portion of pistachios and a glass of water. If it's sugar I'm craving, I'll have a few chunks of pineapple. It'l spike my blood sugar a little but I'm getting some tasty micronutrients and it beats a hot fudge sundae. ;)

Wait...people on MFP are asking for sexy chat and nudes? I'm not naive but I honestly thought this wouldn't be the appropriate place. Good grief.

For me, they are the best tasting bar I've ever had. I looked into them after some friends were raving about them on FB. I probably have 1 a week which is an emergency snack in the event I forgot to pack a lunch or I'm extra hungry that day.

Your opening post really resonated with me. I thought it was me writing it. That was me for quite a few years. I didn't have the mental check valve that told me when enough was enough. It's like being an addict of another substance where one is too many and ten is never enough. Like you, my doctor warned me of the…

It's a lot to take in when receiving news like this for the first time. A common reaction is to push back with "I can't live without x, y, and z" but you can. Give it a try and see how it works for you. I know it may seem unfathomable to enjoy foods without sugar in it but it is very possible. If you told me a year ago I…

There's a lot of amazing inspiration in this thread. It makes me smile. ;) I am right with you! I had mentioned the same thing my profile. Lol. With regards to the dawn effect/phenomenon, this is something that is not one size fits all. Definitely experiment and see what works for you. I used to eat dinner at 5pm and then…

I seemed to have ruffled feathers which was certainly not my intent. I tend to type in a succinct manner and I'm a passionate person. I'm definitely here to be supportive and not combative. To the OP of the thread: I wanted to present an alternative way of approaching fast food cravings. I feel breaking bad habits is a key…
