  • Is he usually a jerk or mostly supportive of your hopes and dreams in general? If he's is generally supportive cut him some slack. If he is usually a jerk cut the strings. When spouse's or SO's are not loving supportive people and you chose to put up with it - it is more of a reflection of how you truly view yourself and…
  • Great topic idea. I will post a few family favorites as soon as I can. I love recipes with history. :)
  • Salmon over Zucchini Noodles tossed with Thai Peanut Sauce Sprinkled with Cashews - 350 Calories
  • I know this sounds odd but I mix the egg yolks with ice water until it is light and fluffy. Then I fill the egg white shell and sprinkle with hungarian paprika. I have also added a bit of seasonings to the egg yolk mixture.
  • I tried it recently because I realized that is how I used to eat regularly while in college. Fast forward 30 years and my body didn't respond well. I find that eating well throughout the day helps me have the energy to perform my responsibilities and enjoy my life. So I just make wise choices and don't worry about the time…
  • I find fruits like apples, oranges, and grapefruit hold up in salads the best. Bananas are the worst. Vacuum seal in a mason jar for best results if using strawberries, etc
  • It is easy to imagine that people are thinking the worst of you when you feel bad about yourself. As you become "one hot mama" your transformation on the inside will be even more amazing than the one on the inside. Even when people are mean or rude others may quietly be watching your reaction and be cheering you on inside…
  • What a great idea! :drinker:
  • My pizza recipe is flavorful and calorie friendly. I'm just finishing the photo before posting my blog. I'll post a link this weekend. It is lower calorie than the cauliflower crust pizzas on mfp.
  • Boneless chicken breast, ground turkey, and shrimp is a busy cook's best friend. They can be cooked and seasoned in a multitude of ways and be paired with your favorite veggies. Since they are quick cooking proteins a delicous meal can me made start to finish in 15 to 20 minutes or less if you work efficiently in the…
  • I look forward to it seeing your recipes. Our favorites are Chicken & Dumplings (Chicken Paprikash), Filled Cabbage, and my family loves chicken soup made with homemade csiga noodles. I have my the old style rolling boards that have been used for many genrations behind me and I have even taught my daughters to use them. I…
  • I do understand the college/budget thing but if you can stretch your budget to buy a reconditioned vitamix you will never need to buy another blender again. If you go to starbucks or a juice/smoothie shop on a regular basis and stopped for a bit you could pay for it in pretty short order.
  • Although my mother is more loving and supportive than I sometimes deserve I have dealt with this issue with regards to my in-laws. In the 35 years I have known my mother-in-law I have never been the "right" weight. I have been (in her eye) an "obese elephant" and "anorexic". Although neither are true I laughed when I…
  • This web site may help you get started. It has a tab that contains her daily menus for more than a year broken down by month. There are also recipes and tips. Generally, when I have been having a health problem requiring a blood test I try not to change my eating habits so I get an accurately reading of where I have been.…
  • My "hollandaise" is even lower in calories and I actually enjoy it more than the realy thing. I take about 1/4 cup of egg beaters, a splash of lemon juice, and 3/4 cup water and zap in the microwave on high for about 1 minute 30 seconds stirring every 20-30 seconds until smooth and creamy. If I get distracted I just throw…
  • The ninja may work well out of the box but I have been using a vitamix 3 times a day or more giving it a heavy duty workout and it has not failed once in over 35 years. I bought a second one and gave my niece my old one. My second one is going strong after 20 years old. Now time to buy new ones for my daughters as they…
  • I dry it completely if it is just a basic pasta. If I fill it to make a ravioli or tortellini I freeze it. They both taste great and get great reviews from my guests but I prefer fresh pasta whenever possible. There is a subtle change that takes place but it will still be wonderful in either case.
  • I've made a pitcher of water infused with lemons, blueberries, and strawberries. I'm thinking of making a salad adorned with blueberries, a bit of feta cheese, maybe a few walnuts, and dressing with a fresh raspberry low cal vinegrette. I think I may even add a bit of grilled shrimp and have it as my main course. My hubby…
  • I make salads and pre pack in vaccum bags. I also make "lunchable style" ones in presectioned containers. I add crackers, ham or salmon, cheese, grape tomatoes, and/or sliced fruit too. I also preportion left overs, soups etc. Homemade sushi or spring rolls are nice too. Hardboiled eggs, quiche, taquitos/fajitas travel…
  • Wow!
  • It's not a magic formula....but making water infused with flavors you like is not a bad thing to do if it helps you enjoy the act of drinking the water you might not otherwise drink......BTW....maybe someday I will actually come across a topic that doesn't bring out the negative rude people who have nothing better to do…
  • My favorite is to take raw eggs to the office. I place hot water in a cup or bowl, crack 1 or 2 eggs, cover with a paper towel, and zap for 30-45 seconds in a 1000 watt microwave. Then I drain off the water and have perfectly poached eggs.
  • My favorite toppings is turkey pepperoni, tomatoes, onions, red peppers, and pepperoncini peppers. It also has a base of tomato sauce and topped with a blend of mozerella, parmesian, romano, and asiago cheese. A dinner plate sized pizza only has 288 calories so why someone would want to eat a less satifying higher calorie…
  • Thin crust homemade pizza is surprizingly low in calories. Salads with homemade dressings are too. The first link is to my favorite thin crust pizza recipe http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/ckish?month=201210 or www.MyMothersSecrets.weebly.com has pictures of the same pizza but the recipe is not posted yet. I considered the…
  • Generally, I find it is easier to count calories because I cook. I can even estimate calories very well because I know how many calories are in most of my ingredients. I also love to make salad dressings that are flavorful but so low in calories I don't really need to be strict on the measurements. A scale is good if you…
