  • I've been lifting heavy since January. My weight hasn't changed a great deal, but my body shape has. Eat right and keep lifting; you will see changes in how you look. Weight is just a number.
  • I always go commando and chaffing isn't an issue. I think the less layers you have in that area to hold in moisture the better off you are.
  • They were probably jealous of your success so they didn't say anything. People who are confident in themselves find it easy to compliment others.
  • I use a Garmin Forerunner 15 for running and an Edge 500 for biking. I don't track steps, but I do track miles. User name du6157.
  • Remember that you are not competing against anyone; you're just there to do your best. I would recommend that you avoid anything high fiber the day before. Don't drink too much the morning of the race, there will be lots of water stations on the route. Do your normal run routine and enjoy the high of running with a group…
  • It took me 4 months to lose 40 lbs. The benefits are: buying new clothes in regular sizes, feeling better when I run, convincing my husband to get on board with a healthy lifestyle. We're in our 50s and we have a lot of years left to live. I want them to be happy and healthy years.
  • Don't hope, DO. When exercising is a true habit, you won't feel good if you skip it. Work back into it slowly to avoid injury. You can get a lot of fitness mileage out of just staying active throughout the day by being on your feet and moving around. There's always something that needs to be cleaned.
  • I got tired of feeling invisible. Overweight middle-aged women are the joke of the world. I'm not going to stress over my weight, but I'm getting stronger and I laugh at people's faces as I pass them in a race. Confidence is sexy!
  • I'm eating 1200 a day. I'm 54, 5'3", and I exercise regularly, including running 3-6 miles 3 times a week, strength training, and bicycling. I do not eat back my exercise calories. I'm losing weight at around one pound a week. If I'm hungry, I'll add a 100-calorie snack. I focus on healthy eating and small treats. At 1200…
  • Running is a mental game you play by yourself. First you talk yourself into getting your shoes on, then you talk yourself into going out the door. Then you talk yourself into warming up, and then FINALLY you take that first running step. Then you have the mental dialog about your speed, but HEY, you can say you ran today.…

  • I'm 54, 5'3', want to get to 145. I have a heavy body type, so I'll never see the 120s again. In my youth I was thin at 125, but was usually around 130. Your body type and your eating habits are going to determine how low you go, and if you stay there.
  • Don't give up on running! It took me six months to get to a point where I didn't feel like I was dying, but now I look forward to running. I will probably never love running, but I'm glad I run because it makes me feel good when I'm done. It's hard some days to get out of bed and lace up those shoes, but it gives me a huge…
  • I'm about the same age (54) and I know 1200 feels low, but it's doable. I work out 5-6 days a week running 3-4 miles, bicycling 10-20 miles, and strength training at an intermediate level. I lose when I stay at the 1200 limit, but don't when I go over, and it doesn't matter if I did a 20 mile bike ride that day or not. I…
  • I went to a dietician and she told me you cannot exercise your way to weight loss. You must decrease your daily calories by 500 below your current daily total to lose 1 pound per week. I'm 5'3", 54 years old, and my daily calorie total is 1200. I am losing a little over a pound a week. It's harder to lose weight when you…
