Also, I think this comic is appropriate: At the gym: who is looking at whom.

Honestly, I've never gone to the gym, and I probably never will. I do bodyweight workouts at home, courtesy of Darebee.
-
I prefer The Oatmeal's method, tbh: do ridiculous amounts of exercise so I can eat whatever the hell I want when I'm actually hungry.

Just moved to Portland this summer.

After a delay of almost a month (it got lost in the mail), I FINALLY got my Flex, today, and I'm so excited to start using it. https://www.fitbit.com/user/47HXPR

For me, it always happens when I start exercising more, but it eventually gets better.
-
You'd have to eat a 3,500 surplus to put on one pound, so what's probably happening is that you're simply retaining more water or something because of the extra food.

I know different things work for different people, but I said "screw it" to MFP's recommendations for daily calories, figured out what my maintenance calories would be for my goal weight, rounded down to the nearest hundred, and changed my daily goal to that. I'm eating 2,100 a day and still losing, and I've already…

Not all fat is bad, and the fat in nuts, like hazelnuts and walnuts, is the kind that's good for you. Pistachios have very little sodium in their raw form. It's only when they're roasted in a lot of salt that they're high in sodium. Just go for raw ones or lightly salted ones. This is mostly about avoiding sugar and/or…

I'm 29, but I have quite a bit to lose.

Fruits and vegetables.
-
I've been cutting back on foods with refined sugar added to them because it makes it easier to hit all my nutrition goals without going over my calories. It's working pretty well, so far.
-
Well, for starters, don't use frozen meat.
-
Basically. If "clean" eating makes you feel better, then do it. Otherwise, don't sweat it, but definitely aim for a balanced diet.
-
It can be done, but it's a lot of work. A better diet would be one than includes nuts and seeds and other good sources of protein and fat, as well as whole grains for carbs (and protein, because a lot of whole grains are also a good source of that).

Yeesh. My grandparents live there, and they start complaining about the cold when it gets to 60.

41 F in Seattle, WA, with an expected high of about 46. It's downright toasty here compared to about 85% of the country.

As someone who lives on the bottom floor, I commend you for being so considerate. Most people aren't. I agree with the person who said talk to your neighbors and find out when they're out or won't be bothered. Don't assume they're out during the day, though, because some people work nights (like me) and therefore sleep…

My suggestions would be to not say anything, especially since you mentioned that she had an abusive mother. As someone who has put up with emotional abuse their whole life, I can tell you that, no matter anyone's intentions, I do not take suggestions of weight loss well (even compliments ON my weight loss), because I'm…
-
This is well-put, but I do have two issues: verbal abuse can still be pretty "extreme"; and I really, really don't have any issue never having contact with some of my family members ever again.
-
This, basically. Let them have their drama, but make sure you're safe, first.
-
THIS.

Um, that is something I never, ever disclosed to any of my roommates, and we all got along just fine. I have also never required "intervention" for my cutting. I mean, I know not all cutters are the same, but most know how to cut in a way that is not life threatening.

Except that mental illness can keep you from being able to do those things, too. There are times when I'm so depressed, it takes all I have to physically lift myself up out of bed. I have had to call in sick because I CAN'T get out of bed. There are also times when I am unable to talk, thanks to a mixture of anxiety and…

Pitbulls, because they're what I grew up with and they're the best dogs you could have (despite what people think).
-
I realize that. I'm just saying, I grew up in a religious town where people didn't eat meat on Friday, but fish was considered acceptable. There, eating fish as your only source of meat IS considered a vegetarian diet. I'm not saying I consider it that, I'm saying other people still consider it that. Anyway, I only eat it…
-
I'm not going to argue that exercise DOESN'T help, because it's medically proven to release chemicals that do act as a natural anti-depressant, but for some people, exercise is not always an option, and I feel it's coming dangerously close to blaming them for their depression because they are physically or emotionally…
-
Depends on who you ask. There are a lot of groups and religions that still don't consider fish to be real meat.

Beans, nuts, whole grains, eggs, yogurt. I did soy for awhile, but it contributed to certain medical issues, so I stick with eggs. I also make protein shakes every once in awhile, but more as a treat than a supplement.

This. I eat "clean" (which, to me, is about 95% unprocessed foods, like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fresh fish, eggs, etc.), and what makes up for the small amount of calories in the fruits and veggies is things like mixed nuts, fish, eggs, beans, etc. I also eat some yogurt every day (plain Greek yogurt is a good…
