  • I'm sorry that happened to you :( It's a terrible, terrible feeling that propagates self-loathing. I know. It happened to me once when I was at my heaviest, around 250lbs, and I was in a convenience store with friends. Another person in the store nudged his friend and pointed to me and said "look at that fat f---ing whale…
  • I am by no means an athlete so take what I say with a grain of salt! But I would be careful with Insanity. I have a lot of friends who have done it and injured themselves. And recovery from an injury can REALLY set you back. I did C25K and loved it. It's an excellent program. However, my first attempt at it I thought I…
  • That's why I said by "medical accepted" non-diabetic range and also "decent". When you HAVE diabetes, this is what the medically-accepted range is. They tell you anything up to and A1C of 7 is acceptable. I don't make these guidelines, just sharing by my own experience ;-) Ask any endocrinologist or diabetes practitioner…
  • Thank you everyone! I'm going to sit down and properly crunch the numbers, and get started. I think I will do better with a consistent daily calorie goal, rather than "eating back" exercise calories.
  • Ooops. Math typo there. Thanks for correcting! ;-) And, that's why I am here... to learn how to use these methods properly. I'm not looking to "blame" a method on stalled weight loss... I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong, and how I can make changes to reach my goals and maintain them. I will definitely have a…
  • Thank you for that explanation!!! It is VERY helpful. So basically it's a bit of perspective. And yes that makes more sense, as I look back at my food logs and see that with my activity and "eating back exercise calories" my total calorie consumption is close to TDEE-20%. I think I got it now.
  • This is part of the appeal... the tracking. However, my TDEE is 2183 and BMR is 1587. So TDEE-20% is 1819 cals per day. This intake of calories, to me, is a HUGE difference from the 1200 per day I have been trying for the past two weeks ad per MFP recommendations! ;-) I think the TDEE method makes logical sense. I felt…
  • Can you elaborate? What has your research shown you?
  • 249 is high and definitely outside the target range, but I wouldn't be rushing to the hospital for that. You are still producing insulin and so that number would come down. I would highly advise AGAINST taking your husband's insulin for that reason. You are VERY lucky you didn't have a hypo. If you are in that range again,…
  • This is very true. I'm a Type 1 diabetic (so insulin-dependent for life) and what you have to discern is how particular foods affect YOU. There are good guidelines, such as the glycemic index, but most of us who monitor our blood sugar very closely will tell you that those guidelines can vary :) I agree that you should…
  • I just started a very similar thread! ;-) Glad I'm not the only one who is curious! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1395707-how-did-calorie-intake-change-with-weight-loss
  • Thank you! Very helpful! (Also, not concerned about the T1, just adding that in for overall info or to perhaps meet another T1 on this journey!)
  • Could it be a sensitivity to gluten? I know a friend of mine is very sensitive, and if she accidentally eats gluten she looks six months pregnant by the end of the day and into the next day!
