  • Thanks for advice
  • eek, have to say that last sentence resonated a bit, lol. Glad to know roughly what BMI is, and can see that a roughly correct measurement can help in some way. That fact's sinking in a bit now about Arnie; thankfully as a woman I won't end up that big, lol.
  • Awesome, Cyn! Thank you. Great to journey this together, and I'm sure you're right we can do this! Lol, pinky. I think you're right that so early in the journey the body must be going 'what the heck? ...' lol, and will settle down over a few weeks. I don't think I've ever eaten so much wholegrain in 2 weeks as this…
  • Thanks for reassurance about water weight. Definitely shifting to monthly weigh-in, and not sure what to do about this scale now, lol. At least it's useful for actual weight, so no chucking it out of the window yet, lol.
  • Thanks. Definitely going to shift from weekly to monthly weigh-in. Shifting focus to actually being more present with the exercise and nutrition journey feels much better than getting too involved in any frequent fluctuations that occur, as you say.
  • Thankyou for advice. I really like the idea of weighing-in monthly ... really shifts the focus onto getting on with the actual journey, instead of a head full of crazy numbers, lol. Glad to realise that it's water weight, plus to hear that muscle growth is slow, especially for a woman. That fat'll fall off faster than…
  • Thank you; great advice. Luckily was just sticking to weekly weigh-in's, as I didn't want to drive myself crazy, lol, but you've got a point, especially about just keeping focussed and enjoying learning. I think I might still be tempted to weigh-in monthly, as the poster below has suggested, as I just can't resist that,…
  • wow, that's amazing! ... and suddenly I feel better, lol
  • Thanks for confirming about water weight and reassurance to give it time. (It's the Omron BF511 Family Body Composition Monitor I'm using).
  • Thanks. Have been in a lot of pain and feeling I jumped into strenuous exercise too quickly, so your explanation of microtrauma really makes sense. Too tired to exercise since about 2 days ago, so it's great to understand about the microtrauma, and return to exercise but not so strenuously!
  • Thanks for advice, and reassurance it most likely is water weight etc. (It's the Omron BF511 Family Body Composition Monitor I'm using.)
  • Thanks for posting this. I was concerned as I'd changed my max HR, after changing 2 zone numbers to fit with DDP Yoga. Now I see the Polar had got max HR exactly right, didn't need changing. Have kept the 2 zone numbers to fit with DDP Yoga, and very happy to know the max HR setting is now right. Thanks!
  • troubled? [eek at the 'sinister' comment, hence new profile pic]
  • adorable, and a lot of fun!
  • Thank you  and congratulations on your weight loss! Glad to understand better. I think I'll do it the MFP+exercise way, as I like the extra detailed tracking, feel that would keep me more accurate.
  • Well done!
  • I'd also input your measurements, so you can get some good feedback each week from those, as, as well as needing to adjust to 'sedentary', your body shape could be changing and that would encourage you. I'd had my profile details set wrong at first, and feedback said I could eat about 1900 a day. When I adjusted things to…
  • I'm 48, and discovered myfitnesspal just over a week ago. 2 lbs lost, despite the 1 lb aim, so I'm chuffed to pieces. Awesome community. Will send you a friend request. :-)
  • UK too; Middlesbrough :-)
  • Thank you for advice  and it's cool to know especially about the recovery aspect. Someone mentioned to me about high intensity workouts burning more fat, so I've got an intervals timer app ready and look forward to burning more fat that way. They said to start off with 2 minutes fast eg cycling, and rest for a…
  • Lol, very funny thread. (squeaks 'am single too') Wanted to comment to join in a bit more some time, as I haven't worked out a lot of the forum thingies yet, with only being here a week so far.
  • Hiya and thanks for the friend request. Great to share this. I've only been here about a week; wonderful new world, lol. You can do it! :-)
  • I can really understand that. My theory is that we know deep down what we're capable of ... 100% success. And once you really register that, there's then adjusting to the fact that, yes, you'll 100% succeed, but in a certain way, and much more steadily than planned. Better to channel that success realistically and get…
  • From reading your post, it sounds like you really give yourself a hard time ... I'd take some breathing space to be a bit nicer to yourself, as if you're constantly giving yourself negative feedback, that's a very difficult place to work from. Being nicer to yourself means you'd be nicer to your body. If you're always…
  • Absolutely! It's so encouraging while exercising to see that you're in the fat burning zone and to at last be able to be clear about how many calories exercise sessions burn up. Also makes it far easier to fill in myfitnesspal and thus eat right. I like removing the guesswork; makes you feel much freer to concentrate on…
  • You can use a Polar FT4 that will record time/calories/heart rate when you press the middle right button (begins training recording). 2.5 hours out walking about today I now know burnt off 620 calories.
  • I just got the Omron BF511 Family Body Composition Monitor delivered yesterday ... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0033AGBW0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ... and they're great. They tell you all kinds of things ... Body fat percentage and BMI calculation, Visceral fat, skeletal muscle percentage, resting…
  • Sounds like your metabolism might be really slow, with being quite sedentary ... I know, because I've been like that, until just starting to really tackle it now, lol. Building some muscle as well as stretches and some regular but not too strenuous cardio should kickstart your metabolism more ... more muscle = faster…
