I know how you feel, the media botches so badly the health information it tries to push. Look for the studies themselves, you will be surprised what you find and how out of left field some people get their headlines. I have been studying studies for a long time ( I come from a chemistry/physics background) and over the…

Your bmr should be right around 1400. In my experience this means you should be able to maintain your current weight at up to 1700 calories. Your best bet for weight loss is probably in the 1350 range. This does not always work based on calories alone though. If you cant drop body fat at that level of calories, try…

In reguards to "Actually, there are plenty of studies to support whole grains" There are clinical studies that show they are better than processed grains, but that is it. There exists not one single study that compairs whole grains to no grains. However there are a few that link it to various metabolic syndromes. Also it…

Please dont take offense, but eat more Oatmeal, whole grains and eat less red meat and cheese is the one of the worst mistakes of the health industry. People are paying for it dearly with their health. There is not a single clinical study that exists, and yet the media keeps propagating this slander.

Fat is not your enemy. The average american consumes way to little fat and typicaly the wrong kinds.

Don't, there is absolutely no reason to try and lower it. The entire modern idea around how cholesterol works has been wrong for a very long time. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mercola/the-cholesterol-myth-that_b_676817.html Here is a bit Sally Fallon, the president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and Mary Enig,…

Think that if you wish, but I still disagree. What you eat matters almost more so than the number of calories you consume, if not at least the same amount.
-
Why is this bad or surprising to you?
-
These studies may prove helpful http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/48/2/240.abstract http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/74/6/737.abstract granted not all carbs are the same, but most refined carbs will quickly put you over your limit.

I don't see how this makes it more complicated. to me it seems easier to make a decision if you understand why you are making it.

Your body has little room to store glycogen, but unlimited room to store fat. If you consume more foods that turn to glucose in your body, and it is more than your glycogen stores can hold, it gets turned to fat and stored. Look up the chemical process of insulin and lipoprotein lipase. Its there so you don't die of high…

This makes no sense to me, how did you come to this conclusion?
-
Well, there are no real miracle cures unfortunately. You can't spot reduce by exercise. Where your body stores its fat is greatly determined by hormones. However there are a few things you can try that may help. Many people who have fat around their midsection actually have a large portion of it around their livers, you…

I disagree. one example. Grass fed beef vs grain/corn fed has a much higher omega 3 to omega 6 ratio. The majority of the fat found in non grass fed beef is polyunsaturated which can cause inflammation and damage to the artery walls in those quantities. All observational studies I've read do them on normal beef, not grass…

In my opinion I would switch the number of grams of carbs, for the number of grams of fat. A little more protein wouldn't hurt either

Haha, I like this

I put a tablespoon of coconut oil in my coffee this is what I use http://www.amazon.com/Nutiva-Organic-Virgin-Coconut-15-Ounce/dp/B001EO5Q64/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1364259770&sr=8-3&keywords=coconut+oil
-
Can you do coconut oil?
-
Sarcasm I assume?
-
I love egg salad with avacado

I don't understand, fat burning and muscle building are not mutually exclusive things.
-
I disagree, I have found that carb loading does not work as well as consuming fat. When you consume good fats, your body does not stop the fat burning process to get rid of all the extra glucose carb loading would provide.
-
Hopefully this wont end up like Pandora's box, but what specific proteins are you talking about that makes meat not something we should eat?
-
There are some seriously hard core paleo types who refute all modern marvels. But this seems to me as bad an idea as an all raw food diet. I personally think good quality meat beats a protein shake. However you can find plenty of paleo types adopting more modern things such as protein powder.
-
I started with good meat and pushups. You don't need expensive supplements or equipment to get it done.
-
I think it is important to note the good points the paleo diet makes along with what technology has provided for us. Not all of each are bad, but finding the merits of both is what I think people need to do more of rather than bashing everything and remaining potentially ignorant of useful information.
-
This is a very good point. People are driven to eat based on hormones. If what you eat messes with those hormones, you will have a very hard to ignore desire for more food.
-
Yes

I wish I had a better answer other than it seems like they just don't care, or are uneducated on what is actually healthy for them.

Not trying to offend you, but either you cant make sense of what I am saying, or you are using the straw man argument incorrectly. I don't know which it is. I am not sure how I can clarify it for you any more.
