Thank you so much everyone! Your replies and advice have been very helpful and I will take a more in depth look at the calorie deficits (or lack there of) without the 'active calories' factored in. I will look into giving the formulas a try as best I can too. It's nice to know there are actually nice people on these…

I don't go by TDEE since it would have me eating double what I am regardless of the calculator I've tried. I use my vivofit as I've mentioned which tracks my activity 24/7 including sleep. It links with MFP where I log everything I eat. What I have is a Calories In/Out section on Garmin Connect that takes what I consume…

I don't consciously eat back my calories and my Garmin estimates my burns. It is possible it is overestimating, but not by nearly as much as the generic calculators tend to (MFP included). One would think an hour long recumbent cycling session (12+ miles at level 4 resistance) or treadmill walk at my fastest pace (2-3…

Thanks for the replies (and no flames, wow!) Here's some more info since some of you asked. I have a scale and weigh everything in grams (drives my husband nuts btw). My calorie breakdown is almost exactly as recommended too, sometimes a bit high on the fat side, but that's usually only when I have salmon so it's 'good'…

I was there, believe me. I thought 'how can I squeeze even 10 minutes into my schedule'? I suffer from anxiety, insomnia, and worst of all I'm lazy. This January I decided to just force myself to exercise and try to lose weight I gained from pregnancy, depression, and inactivity. I've had good days and bad, still do, but…

In college I walked and sometimes biked to campus and back 5 times a week, roughly 1.5 miles each way plus campus travel, and lost about 50 pounds by the time I graduated two years later. No 'diets', portion control, or even tracking involved. As an art major I had quite a bit to carry back and forth some days too... Art…

I have a variety of options for breakfast. I tend to mix and match depending on my mood so it keeps things from getting boring. They seem to average about 400 calories which seems ideal for me, but you can play around with it to fit your mornings. Choice 1 - Oatmeal with walnuts and blueberries. I like Nature's Path Flax…

To answer your question, yes, some people can gain weight from overeating then get full on few calories, especially if they have went from empty calorie junk food to a healthy, natural diet. You can easily down a huge soda, but the same calories eaten as steamed veggies could be too filling. Hope that helps explain the…

It might not be overeating like many here think. That's the most common, true, but sometimes depression, stress, poor sleep, and lack of activity for a variety of reasons can cause the gain. I lost roughly 50 lbs back in 2006 walking and biking to college. Then I moved cross-country and gained a bit back, about 20 lbs or…

I'm an artist and avid gamer so sitting is something I do a lot more than I should. I've switched out my chair for a stability ball at my art desk and use it when playing console games so I'm 'engaging my core' supposedly and often rock and bounce on it. I also try to get up often (to get water, visit the bathroom, etc.)…

I'm very cost conscientious, so I understand your concern, but did you know veggies, fruits, and fresh meats/seafood are cheaper per pound than any of the stuff found in the aisles? You can also grow your own veggies if you have the space and patience. Most of that also freezes well so you can buy in bulk for additional…

Hi I'm 31, mother of one very active little boy, 3, and catmom to an ever-tolerant 9 yr old turkish angora mix female. I walk around Bot-Evt Hwy between fred meyer and country village and the surrounding area - North Creek Trails, Centennial Park, etc. Also, up around Meridian Ave. I need my bike tuned up (feel free to…

Burning calories is still burning them regardless of the hour in the day. I often workout at night, especially if the weather is too hot during the day. One thing I've noticed is that I fall asleep almost as soon as my head hits the pillow - a rare thing for this frequent insomniac, but everyone is different. Do what fits…

I've got social anxiety, but when I walk I also bird/animal watch and spend more time wondering where a bird I hear is than what someone walking by is thinking. Also, smiling seems to help. Maybe it's just the friendly Seattle area people, but I've found most people smile back which really helps with anxiety. You can't…
