Burpees & overhead press-ugh!

Well, I am 21 yrs older than you. I never had excess weight to lose until after I had my daughter at 42 (without stretch marks!). I've always been mistaken for being quite a bit younger than I am. But, I see the years. I'm perimenopausal now. I'm making peace with it. It's a fact, nothing I can do about it. And, I'm in…

From @canadianlbs : "the first year i lifted, i also cut my weight down to under 125, but i didn't like that look much at all. i don't think there's anything wrong with it inherently though. i suspect it's more because i probably subconsciously expected to drop 25 years along with the 25 pounds that i'd added to my…

I'm 5'2.5-5'3" & 120ish. I got down to 114-116 last year and I looked too thin. Mostly, in my upper body as I am not busty and have a pear shape.

If you mean the female knight, I love that character! But she is soo tall and I am 5'2":-)

I think it's the lifestyle changes that usually come with age that can make fitness a challenge. Jobs, marriage, children, etc. It's easy to let go of one's fitness when there are other people to think of & new responsibilities to deal with. But, you are important, too. So, if staying fit is important make it a priority. I…

Wow, what an ordeal! So glad to hear HRT is working for you.

Wow! Amazing transformation! Here I am at 22, & 26 Then 42, months after having my daughter. I was the heaviest I'd ever been. Fit at 48, now! *edited because photos out of order: Last photo is me at 42 & flexing photo is current .

I like to listen to podcasts. Some I like: Shredded by Science Radiolab Snap Judgement Criminal

I'm 48. I'm in the best shape of my life.
-
Same.
-
Nice job, OP!
-
I love that!
-
@sunflowerhippi , your transformation is amazing! You look fab! I think the 10% body fat result must have been off because that is essential fat level for women. But, you are def under 20%. Looking lean!

Unfortunately, I can't get a Dexa anywhere near me unless I get a bone scan ordered. I'm 48 and perimenopausal so maybe my Dr will order one :D I don't know what to believe. Calipers (self performed) tell me I'm at 19% now, my scale says 21.4%. I have gained a bit of fat back since my bikini photo. I thought hydrostatic…
-
Around the time of this photo I had hydrostatic testing done and I was told I was around 20-21%. My current profile photo , I'd say around 23%

Ha, Gisel, I must have been writing practically the same thing at the same time!

Breast tissue isn't muscle. It's fat & glands. If you want to be smaller then losing fat *might* be the answer if your breasts have a lot of fat. Doing chest exercises, like chest press or flyes can build up the pecs underneath the breasts but won't do anything to the breast tissue itself. Light weights, like 2.5 lbs are…

I lift at home and have never done Crossfit. I bought a used power cage, only bar, bench & weights. I've gotten some bands & fractional weights, foam roller & I have been able to do StrongLifts 5x5, PHUL & Wendler, so far. Make sure if you do decide to work at home to research proper form for the lifts and get a cage or…

The emotional changes are worse than the physical ones, for me. I'm irritable & angry a lot. And, I have a young daughter daughter (5.5 yr old). I feel like a crap mom because I just don't have the patience to deal with my smart but very clingy & demanding child. I guess I'm thankful I'm not dealing with a moody teenager…

Argh, this is what I'm going through. I'm 48. My periods are irregular now and have been for months. I was driven to take Zoloft for severe PMS symptoms & I never had that. Hot flashes have started. I've always been prone to being cold but now, several times a day & night, I am stripping off layers to cool off.

You can walk it. I'm no runner and did a charity 5k in February. Fast runners start first and slower runners/walkers start a few minutes later. I started later because I'm slow & I figured I'd end up walking. I did manage to run the whole thing but lots of people walk. Unless your 5 yr old can run the whole thing you will…

I'm sorry for your struggles. You've had some tough times. But, I don't believe you are doomed. My father is sedentary & obese, my mother is sedentary and overweight. They each have health issues related to their sedentary lifestyles. I chose to be active & healthy. I'm 48 and fit and I love my active lifestyle. I chose it…

My hikes are in uneven ground and there is always a climbing aspect. Walks are flat and less hilly. Also, hiking often entails carrying water & a backpack.

I didn't try to really get in shape until my kid was weaned. At her 3rd birthday I cringed when I saw photos of myself. I had a droopy stomach and I'd never held fat there before. Of course, loose skin is part of that droop and that takes much much longer to tighten up. If ever. I started lifting weights and loved how it…

I have a protein smoothie for lunch every day, with spinach and an apple thrown in. I'm 5'2" & 48 & my maintenance calories aren't very high. Helps me hit my protein macro without going over calories. It's pretty filling, too.
-
Nothing special, just eating at a deficit and regular exercise (lifting). But, I had a flat stomach pre pregnancy. When I gained pregnancy weight it went to my belly and butt, thighs. Actually, all over. My arms were big for the first time ever. I got serious when my girl was 3, too. It can be done. Consistency is key.

I lift, my husband doesn't. It's not a big deal. He's awesome and treats me with respect. We have interests in common but lifting isn't one of them. I don't mind. Now that we have a kid I have little (no) privacy and lifting is all mine. He is still stronger than me, though. I mean, we don't challenge each other to lifting…

I've had some definition to my abs throughout most of my adult life. I've mostly been around 20-24% body fat. But, I had a job that was pretty physically active for 20+ yrs and used a lot of core strength. So although it wasn't intentional, I was building muscle. I gained weight, up to about 30% body fat and couldn't see…
