SW: 152 CW: 148 (4/5/14) GW: 143 (by 5/1/14) I need some accountability! I find it too easy to eat more than the recommended calories and to put off exercising:( I think I'm going to try to get up early every day and exercise so that its done and out of the way before the day starts!

Fantastic! With determination like that the world should brace itself. What will you do next?

Great post! Love the HFCS = Darth Vader metaphor:happy:

The Vermont Bread Company puts out a good product. There are plenty of other bread makers that make great bread. You should be able to find a local, artisanal bakery that makes a healthful loaf that tastes great. Ezekiel, for some reason, elicits almost a cult like following. I would question such brand loyalty in a…

Nicely stated. I would have to agree with your basic tenets. Avoiding added sugar, avoiding processed foods and adopting a plant based diet are perfectly reasonable, evidence based, and beneficial behavior changes for all of us.

This was so inspiring! Thank you for sharing.

Adam and Eve were vegetarian. If you read the book of Genesis, mankind were not allowed to eat meat until after the flood. Just saying:wink:

If you add more protein to your diet without removing carbs or fat to compensate you will then be eating too many calories. Have you adjusted your calorie intake to reflect your weight loss?

To an extent you're right. However, we used to to think the world was flat and the sun revolved around the earth......... I'm glad that we keep advancing our knowledge.

A few articles with reference to stretching; http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/06/22/to-stretch-or-not-to-stretch/ http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/features/new-ideas-on-proper-stretching-techniques http://www.unm.edu/~lkravitz/Article%20folder/stretching2010UNM.html

the latest research is indicating that static stretching isn't beneficial and actually undermines muscle strength. Dynamic stretching (putting the joints through their full range of motion without holding a static stretch) is the new recommendation, this can also function as a warm up.

Good post. Just some constructive criticism. Your formula for calculating TDEE is wrong. If you take your BMR and multiply by 25% you then have to add that figure to BMR to get TDEE. I find when explaining things like this to people that it's helpful to demonstrate the formula in a simple mathematical format. ie. BMR X .25…

You're not eating to much protein unless you are on dialysis or have to restrict for some other reason. A rule of thumb is to consume .8 - 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. The low end for is if you have a sedentary lifestyle and the high end is for a very active person (athlete)

The 'Last Ten' are sooo hard! You have to be so consistent and disciplined. I haven't managed to find a space in my life to make room for the focus I would need to have. Working on motivating myself to lose 10 this fall.

Yes:happy:

It's actually .8 gram per kilogram (2.2 pounds) of total body weight. This is plenty of protein to sustain and repair body tissues. For optimal muscle building combined with strength training the rec. is more like 1.6 or 1.7 gram protein per kilogram of total body weight. So for someone who is 120 lbs and lifting heavy....…

You're right BMI does have it's limitations. That can be a problem because insurance companies tend to use it to assess a healthy body weight. It does tend work well for the average population and it is supposed to be a reasonable ratio of weight to height (vice versa) when applied to the general population FYI the Dutch…

This was not supposed to make any one suicidal! I thought it was a real eye opener for me too :noway:

They are not calculating body fat percentage. They are calculating BMI (Body Mass Index) . The BMI scale has its flaws as we all know. ie a heavily muscled person also has a high BMI. However, for the most part it is a reasonable estimate of size, and typical body fat percentage. It's supposed to fun and interesting:)

Going to see a registered dietitian is a great idea! There are so many different approaches to weight loss and nutrition out there that it gets a little confusing. An accredited professional would be a big help to get things going in the right direction. You are not admitting defeat so much as discovering that weight…

I agree!

I think they are a bunch of lunatics personally. Why this is even an issue in government is beyond me. Leave it the the churches to be biased and judgmental, it's their job if they want it.

If the thought of eating meat makes you want to vomit....... don't. Their are no health or aesthetic reasons to feel compelled to eat flesh. Put in a Google search for Vegetarian, or even Vegan, body builders. You'll find plenty of photos of well built, muscular, healthy people. You'll also find sites that share their…

Listen to your dietitian. Your post reads like you were losing weight while consuming a lower (2200?) recommended calorie allowance. Why would a notoriously unreliable bit of electronic kit compel you to change the routine that was working?
