  • @Stephaniev51697 To be honest, I'm not sure it is going all that great for me. I'm sticking with it mostly because I can't make a decision about introducing meat and fish back into my diet (meat and fish free since end of December). It doesn't repulse me exactly, I just have an aversion to it. I do feel like I have a…
  • I don't remember my surgeon ever talking about a goal weight. He is a vegan and his main goal in life is getting everyone to at least become a vegetarian...lol. I do appreciate his approach to healthy eating, active living, and focus on body composition instead of a single metric like weight/BMI. You've probably heard this…
  • I just passed my two year surgical anniversary a couple of days ago. These pictures are 5 years apart and are neither my highest nor my lowest weight (but is a current weight). Starting weight was 285, surgery weight 256, low weight 143 point something, current weight 157 and around 18% body fat. I'm annoyed that I never…
  • We love the No Sugar Added popsicles. I have one or two after almost every run.
  • 5 days out and you're already eating food??? I know every surgeon has their own protocol but I still thought most had patients on liquids/full liquids for 7-10 days post surgery before graduating to purees. Understand that one goal of the eating schedule is to help you set healthy habits for the future. At this point, I…
  • Please get a second opinion from another bariatric surgeon regarding the status of your band. As @Bekah7482 mentioned, many doctors don't even offer them anymore. You're having complications that shouldn't be ignored. Exercise is not needed to lose weight but it does positively contribute to overall health and well-being.…
  • "...busted can of biscuits..." Best. Description. Ever.
  • You're right, it doesn't seem like much. IT IS MUCH...it is everything. We know exactly how you're feeling because, despite what we can do now, we all remember that liberating feeling of those early victories. You're at the start of the rest of your life. You're going to go from "Yay me, I ran up the stairs!" to "Yay me, I…
  • What she said...
  • ... and, yes, appendicitis is terrible. Mine came on quite suddenly 25 years ago and I still remember the excruciating pain. Worse than unmedicated childbirth!
  • Have you noticed any pattern to it? I have a significant amount of pain/ tugging/ tenderness when I'm ovulating.
  • @Aztec4Life I do mix it up based on how I'm feeling. I'm not terribly structured. My usual run is right around 10 miles but I cut back both pace and mileage to do this every day run.
  • I ran every day in May! I racked up 120 miles; far from my biggest month of September 2016 (176 miles) but a good increase from the 80 miles I ran in May 2016. I've been feeling out of sorts for a couple of months now so the achievement of running 31 days in a row is all that much sweeter!
  • According to FDA regulations, a product has to contain at least 90% peanuts to be labelled as peanut butter. I'm not averse to some of the yummy peanut butter spread products but they are most definitely not peanut butter.
  • I don't have an actual answer but I wanted to say that Kraft Peanut butter is one of the best parts about going to Canada!
  • I had put down my lowish RHR to having been in such good shape! It was 48 when I did my Dexa scan in December. My blood pressure has been trending up in the past few months. Even at my heaviest and 10 months pregnant, I was a solid 120/80 every day of the week--so lower than would be expected for an obese person. It had…
  • I'm 5'4, 41 years. This was from December 2016. 146 pounds. 16% body fat (DEXA scan). I highly recommend getting a body composition done. It will give you an idea of what is realistic based on your existing lean body mass. I had a goal to get to half (142.5) my original weight...I realized that wasn't realistic after…
  • I'm planning my first full marathon in December. I can't wait!
  • @ContraryMaryMary @hekla90 @spiriteagle99 @MobyCarp Thank you everyone for the information and responses. It is very much appreciated and helpful. It is quite possible that I was over-training some of last year, I was feeling so amazing that I just kept going and going...but that certainly hasn't been the case in the past…
  • Check out Dr. Garth Davis. He is a vegan bariatric surgeon and has a completely different approach to the whole protein discussion. One of his patients just competed in an Ironman on a plant based diet. I'm nearly 2 years post RNY and went meat free (not vegan) a little more than 4 months ago. I eat a wide variety of…
  • @jcavanna2 Thanks! I've been very fortunate with my arms. I think it is good genetics...even if I do look like a boy now!
  • On Sunday, I finished my 7th race of the year...(1) 10k and (6) half marathons.
  • I completed my 6th half marathon of the year (7 total since December)!
  • @lisidy I never planned on becoming a runner. I ran cross country and track & field in high school...and hated nearly every minute of it. 25 years later I started running again and now I can't stop! You'll get there. Take it slow and easy; slow and steady doesn't win the race, but it will make sure that you finish!
  • Keep in mind that, depending on the vitamin or mineral, that deficiencies can take a while to show up and can be difficult to correct so watch trends over time. That being said, I think that there are a lot of ways to skin a cat and that there are many different products to meet nutritional needs. Take what will meet your…
  • I feel you. My period has been incredibly unpredictable for about 18 months. I finally got it a couple of weeks ago after a 4 month hiatus and had some of the worst PMS I can ever remember (it took a 7 month break the time before) in the 10 days leading up to it. I retained nearly 10 pounds of fluid over the course of two…
  • This is after completing my first half marathon in December (I've run 6 more since then) and a random after workout picture while I was on a business trip. I mostly run but I mix in yoga, weights/kettle bells, and elliptical. @lisidy...push ups are still super hard for me too!
  • My surgeon has a different take on the whole protein intake debate...outside of the pre-surgical preparation and initial healing phase, he advocates lower protein intake as a long term strategy. He himself is a vegan, so you can see where this is going... I don't have a moral opposition to eating tasty animals, but I did…
  • I've also been doing a ton of reading on dietary impact on thyroid function...especially the conversion of T4 to T3. I don't think I "broke" my thyroid, but the worsening of my symptoms definitely correlates to some changes in diet. For instance, I was needing to use Miralax on a pretty regular basis to keep things moving.…
  • @ruqayyahsmum have you tried an oral B12? My levels stay quite okay so long as I use the methycobalamin (intead of cobalamin) form regularly. I am quite structured in the way that I take my vitamins to avoid any interactions that would diminish absorption (multi, b vitamins and iron with vitamin c, calcium and vitamin d…
