Low Ferritin after bypass
Anyone else struggling with their iron levels after bypass? My ferritin levels have gone from 68 in October 2015 (3 months after surgery) to 10 at my two year check up. It has been adversely affecting my running performance since late last year. I was technically in the normal range in January at 14 but had already been…

Hypothyroid Runners
I'm in the process of being evaluated for low thyroid function. One of the many symptoms that I am struggling with is decreased cardiopulmonary function. I can see a marked decrease in my pace (>70 data points for same route) over time since I hit a personal record for this 10 mile route in December 2016. When I ran it…

Anyone else taking Dexilant?
Despite having gastric bypass, I'm still having symptoms of "silent" reflux and advancement of Barrett's Esophagus. The GI doctor has put me on Dexilant to see if I can get some improvement in my symptoms but I am having some bathroom issues and I feel like it is causing me to gain weight. Does anyone else have any…

Recipes
Do we have a recipes thread in this group yet? I mostly eat just vegetables, dairy, and meat but I've been experimenting with suitable treats to cope with my sweet tooth that unfortunately never went away. I'll start with a recipe for a soft cookie that I devised this week. It has almost a muffin-y texture. I'll write it…

Aldi products that I love...
I'm a recent Aldi convert. I could never do all of my shopping there, but found some products to try at a great price that have become staples in our household. Fit and Active No Sugar Added Raspberry Preserves -only 10 calories per tablespoon and < 1 gram of sugar; I was pleasantly suprised that there is no detectable…

Halloween!
Let's see some Halloween costumes! My husband and I ran a 10k this morning. I WON my age division and my husband placed 3rd in his. My time was 13 minutes faster than the 10k race I ran in April...and I didn't puke at the end of this one. It's the little things that count!

How do you decide when to replace your running shoes?
I'm a "new" runner; less than a year into it. I wore my first pair of shoes for a bit more than a year doing less impactful activities and at a much higher weight. I replaced them a few months back and realized today that they have more than 500 running miles on them. I felt like they had lost some of their responsiveness…

Creamy Jalapeno Artichoke Dip
Creamy Jalapeno Artichoke Dip I picked up a Good Foods snack pack on a business trip this week at Target and it was super tasty so I whipped up my own version today. Simple, tasty, and satisfying! I spread a 50 gram serving on an Aldi Fit & Active Flatbread and then a generous layer of spinach or spring mix for a yummy…

Caramel Protein Powder
I'm a big fan of Syntrax Matrix Protein Powders; my favorite flavors are Mint Cookie and Peanut Butter Cookie. I'd like to find a caramel flavored powder; I'm okay with/prefer a stevia or sucralose sweetened powder. Any recommendations?

One year down and the rest of my life to go...
Yesterday was my one year surgical anniversary. I had my check up on Monday. Official (surgeon's scale) total weight loss so far is 137 pounds. I'm 40 years old. 5' 4". Starting weight 285. Surgical weight 256. Current 147-ish. A year ago I couldn't run anywhere close to a mile. Today I ran 6 miles...and called it a rest…

Hydration Quiver
Does anyone have one of these? Thoughts? I'm not having a need to carry water on my 10 mile runs but thinking that once I kick over into longer distances that it will be necessary. I don't even like to run with my phone so the thought of a belt or a camelback annoys me.

Running in/near Westampton, NJ
Any suggestions of where I could run fairly early tomorrow morning? It seems like every park I find isn't open until 0800. I don't remember the area very well and can't decide if running on the side of the road is possible...or a good idea.

Handle tape or gloves?
My kettlebell has a rough parting line that I can't quite get rid of; it tears up my hands during certain movements. Does anyone have a recommendation for handle tape or gloves that won't increase the friction too much? Or inhibit my grip!

More room at the end of the day?
I am just shy of a year out from RNY and coming very close to a normal BMI for my height. I have been working out 4-10 hours a week (cardio and strength) since the beginning of January...which includes adding quite a few running miles in the last couple of months. So, I totally expected it when I started experiencing more…

I never get tired of...
...seeing the extra belt on an airplane! I travel for work and hated having to use a seat belt extender. It started out just a plane here and there with shorter belts. When I started needing one on every flight, it was a driving force for me to finally commit to the life change and to get weight loss surgery.

Longer distance running after RNY...
...anyone doing it? I'm regularly running 10km. I logged 40km last week and going for 50km this week. I think my husband and I are headed for a half marathon at the end of the year but I'm concerned about running for 2+ hours without refueling in some way and it seems that most options are too sugary. I've been very…

ISO Protein Cookie Recipe
I've seen quite a few protein cookie recipes using various protein powders, but they all seem to use "scoops" instead of weighing the ingredients. Does anyone have one they like that uses weight instead of measure?

Advice for hamstring injury.
I strained my hamstring about three weeks ago during a run, took two full days to rest and recover, and then went back to a mix of running, yoga, and elliptical. It had been sore but not debilitating; I paid extra attention to warm up and stretching and used some arnica along with hot and cold compresses and Epsom salt…

Salivating and nauseous...
I'm nearly 8 months post-op RNY and down 125 pounds. For the past 6 days, I've had one or more episodes per day when I start salivating profusely, get sweaty and nauseous, and feel like I might throw up...I sometimes do end up heaving a bit. Today I've had 3 such episodes. They only last a minute or two and I am fully…
