Salivating and nauseous...

I'm nearly 8 months post-op RNY and down 125 pounds. For the past 6 days, I've had one or more episodes per day when I start salivating profusely, get sweaty and nauseous, and feel like I might throw up...I sometimes do end up heaving a bit. Today I've had 3 such episodes. They only last a minute or two and I am fully recovered within ten minutes.
I can't, for the life of me, figure out what is causing it. Sounds a lot like what I imagine dumping to be...but I've not done anything that should be causing dumping.
No new foods--everything within allowable limits. Not overeating. Waiting a full hour after eating to drink.
Any thoughts? I'm overdue for my six month check up but I'll be calling the surgeon on Monday to try and get in sooner rather than later.

...and it already happened again this morning. Before I had anything to eat. So strange.0

Sounds almost like the flu or extreme low blood sugar. You definitely need to call your doctor. Get better soon!0

It does sound a little like what dumping is for me, 14 months post op - but generally that's after I overdo carbs. My guess is the flu and your "new" system.0

It definitely isn't the flu...I ran a 5k last night without any problems (and a personal best time). It is likely just a new system adjustment. I'm not particularly worried, it is just inconvenient especially when I can't identify a trigger to avoid!0

Check your blood sugar. It could be that it's a low, especially if you're not eating a trigger food for dumping.
Remember that if you're still losing, you're still going through major changes. Even 8mo post-op, your body is still healing and adjusting. Ensure it's not your blood sugar. If it's not, then it may just be your body continuing to change.0 -
This happened to me several times over the holidays. I didn't really overindulge - in fact, I continued to lose weight during the holidays - but I did find myself eating and drinking things that were "seasonal" that were probably triggers. In my case, I'm pretty sure it was orange juice (when having Christmas morning mimosas with the family and then having a dash of OJ during breakfast hours one or two times afterward).
My doc had me track my blood sugars for a week and I was fine, but I had symptoms exactly as you described which happened to me for about a week before they went away completely. Haven't had it occur since then and I stay away from OJ (which I should have been doing anyway, so yeah.).0 -
There was a cancellation at my surgeon's office...so I have an appointment tomorrow.
I did start checking my blood sugar last night and have been tracking it today...and nothing especially alarming. Fasting, 1 hour, and 2 hour are within 15 points of each other. The lowest I've recorded is 80 two hours after eating--that is on the low end of normal but shouldn't be alarm. I would just expect that a low blood sugar situation would require a "correction" of something (eating or drinking something). It resolves on its own within minutes.
My blood pressure is low for me--I've always been a solid 120/80 girl (even at my heaviest and up until the very end of my pregnancies). Last night and this morning, I'm registering 106/60 or so...but, again, no problems that I would consider connected to that.
I am concerned that I could be having a reoccurrence of pancreatitis; I was hospitalized with this and pneumonia about ten days after my surgery.0 -
That happened to me a bunch but only after overeating. Can't imagine why it would do that too you, and on an empty stomach too! Glad you're going to see the doctor!0

The surgeon is perplexed...I get to have an upper endoscopy again. Yay me!0

Keep us all posted and good luck! Hope they figure it out for you0

About four months post op sleeve in April, 2010, I began to have these unexplainable episodes of refluxing bile that I would end up vomiting (bear with me here). Fast forward four and a half years I was converted to an RNY. The RNY has been successful at not allowing the bile to get to my upper stomach anymore, but I still have issues with the same nausea, and vomiting the empty stomach contents at random times. I believe that the bile still refluxes into my lower stomach, creating the nausea... My other theory is that there was some nerve damage of some sort that created the issue to start with. I will have a distinct sneeze, and cough, right before before it comes on (like a warning almost) that's been the same from the beginning too! Normally it only lasts a few minutes, but sometimes I will remain nauseated, unable to even swallow my saliva without throwing it up!
I hope they figure this out for you, and you find a resolution!! Let us know how it goes for you!0 -
Well, strangely enough, I haven't had an episode for a couple of days now after having them every day for a week. Not sure if I will go for the endoscopy or not at this point.
Whatever it is, it isn't hindering my activity level.0
