Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think online dating is going to work for you right now. I can't imagine many boys your age would be mature enough for online dating. Instead, do things that make you feel good about yourself. Join clubs, find things that interest you and that you care about. I suspect your friends…

Your employer pays a significant amount of money for this membership. The gym staff are being unprofessional, and although initially you might be better mentioning it informally, if there is no change you should mention it to your employer.

I have recently started using a standing desk. It really helped with my posture, and while it isn't a workout I'm sure it's better for me than not having one. Something else to think about? Personally, I don't think I'd be as productive if I was thinking about pedalling.

You know how much I weigh. That obviously makes us best friends.

Sorry! Didn't mean to sound patronising - I'm not like this outside of forums! I find it really annoying when I read about people who buy quite expensive wheels, have lots of spoke failures and end up going to pay to have the wheel "fixed" by bike shops. When I was in the trade I would have been embarrassed to have sold…

It's never the spokes themselves. Breaking spokes are almost always the sign of a badly made wheel. So long as your rebuilt wheel was properly stress-relieved all will be well.

At the risk of sounding like a boring old man, remember many of the people you meet at university are functioning alcoholics. If they're insisting you drink, that's a good sign that they may be. There's lots of social events at universities where the people won't be hammered. You may not find them rightaway, but they'll be…

One thing I wanted to mention. There is such a thing as too much cardio. It's the same as with too much of any type of excercise.

I spent quite a few years living on a boat. I was travelling from place to place every couple of weeks. So I know what it's like to be somewhere where you don't know anyone. Talk to people whenever you can, but I wouldn't consider a gym an ideal place to do that. I know with work spare time becomes precious, but you have…

I hit the bonk once and spent 12 hours crying like a baby in bed afterwards. Do you ever get the feeling some training isn't good for you?

He sounds like a controlling bully. Don't lose weight to become the person he wants you to be. Lose weight if you want to. There is nothing else that works, ultimately.

It strikes me the OP, in common with a lot of other people, is the sort of person who believes thin people are somehow out of fat people's "leagues". It's sort of true, actually; if you believe in leagues, they exist. In reality, it's nonsense. I have been out with some really, really attractive women in the past for no…

OP: The lack of physical presence means a small but highly over-represented group do weird things. I think they get confused, by all the porn on their computers. Don't lose heart, there's lots of men who won't send pictures of their tummy bananas. Stick with it. I have been happily with someone I met online for a couple of…

When a man says he's being "nice", what he's actually saying is "I want to get laid". It's the exact opposite of nice and women can see it a mile off. Meeting women online is easy. Read their profiles. If they sound like someone you'd like to meet, send them an interesting message that they will respond to. Base it on…

I was very fit when I was at school. I played truant.

I had the same thing with my mum, god rest her soul. She would look worried when we didn't clean our plates. She meant well. Her family were very poor growing up, and never had enough to eat. She didn't want to do it to us. Your boyfriend might feel a bit insecure about eating "bad" food on his own. Or perhaps he just…

Staying within my daily calorie limits. Excercise. Being kind to myself. Hippocrates said “If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.”. I love that. Taking an extreme approach towards anything you do on a…

Web browsing is dangerous! Planet X are doing Avid Shorty 4 canti brakes (front and rear) for £15. They used to cost that wholesale. Retail was about £40 per wheel, IIRC. Fashion has gone away from low profile cantis, but these work as well as any canti brake will and they're easy to fine tune. I'm having a pair for when…

No-one has mentioned it yet, but they probably will - if you're excercising more, you are increasing the amount of muscle in your body. And muscle is heavier than fat. If you're a bit over the prescribed weight for your height but still healthy, that's OK so long as you're happy. I've reached the same conclusion as you. I…

A new workstand. I used to have a really nice Cinelli one, but I stupidly got rid of it. You can't work on a bike properly if you don't have a workstand, and I am building up a new bike for spring....

I've not reached my weight loss and fitness goals yet. But I am a successful businessman. You may be fit, but if you are a trainer you're not a good businessman. Never talk negatively about the kind of people that pay your wages. They can tell, you know.

I'm the opposite way round; back in the days before I put my weight on, I had only ever used rollers. They are like riding clipless; worrying at first, but you get the hang of it soon enough. I was sort of leaning towards a turbo though, because it strikes me that's what people use. I might even get an excercise bike, then…

A part of me is thinking I should just MTFU and get out more. My new MTB has vertical dropouts and quite a high bottom bracket. I could build a fixed wheel back wheel for it and add ice tyres. I wouldn't come off on ice then. But it's more stuff, and it might mean I don't use it at all!

It probably doesn't help to say this now. But isn't it lucky that you've discovered he does this before you got married? For now, just look after yourself. There is nothing wrong with crying, I think overeating is not something to worry about right now. Go and find people who can help you. There are womens shelters near to…

Excercise bike? I know Argos have weight limits publised in all their catalogues. I'd buy a secondhand one though. They change hands for about 1/10 of their original value. If it's a rideable bike you want, get an old mountain bike without suspension, then have it serviced but be prepared to spend more on wheels. You want…

There's never any harm in talking to someone who you feel could help you understand yourself. But I honestly believe that anyone can be your therapist, and that professionals won't necessarily do a better job. Get out into the world, and life changes you. I used to be friendly with a therapist. Or at least, I tried. She…

I have put them on bikes for other people. They are good tyres, but they pick up debris very easily. Ideally, you would want something a bit tougher on the commute - the Panaracer Pasela in 28c is a much more reliable tyre. It's still comfortable because you have quite soft sidewalls, but you get good puncture protection.…

My new mountain bike to leave at work needs a stronger back wheel. It's fine now, but I will break it eventually. I have just ordered a Deore hub, a mix of Sapim Race and Sapim Strong in the correct lengths and a Rigida Sputnik rim. I will build it before the clocks go back. Next purchase will be a dynamo hub, so I can…

Possibly not the same thing, but I once did a beginner's badminton class. This was before I put on my weight. The instructor was overweight. She had a belly. She was in her late fifties. I was paired up with a very fit young woman, and we played as a team against her on her own. She slaughtered us. Fit people don't have to…

Interesting. Not sure I like the idea of betting against other people's failure to achieve something though. Still, it might work for some people.
