Chose to go into work a little late today, in part because I had to work both days last weekend and will almost…

Couldn't get comfortable until I hit the first downhill and let my legs just do…

As compensation, once I hit 4.2 miles I rewarded myself with running as fast and far as I felt like and had a…
  • @skippygirlsmom My colicky baby is a 10th grader, so switching her formula isn't going to help. :) Back to school is really hard on her. But yeah, I'm spending my evenings rocking her on the porch while she screams, despite the fact that nothing I do will help her.
  • Mom of 14yo here. Make no comments on her weight, appearance, or eating habits. None. Not any. Mouth closed.

She was much improved by the walk, and I had a pleasant time myself.

The vague muscle and joint pain I'd had all last week is gone. Feels-like-95 is much more tolerable when the sun is…

  • You don't have to outrun the bear; you only have to outrun your buddy.
  • No, I have a giant Spreadsheet of Doom that calculates my actual maintenance calories based on intake and trend weight. One of the columns shows TDEE less intentional exercise. That number is what my MFP goal is set to. My recollection is that I had to set it to "active" to get that high.
  • Similarly, I set my MFP goal at maintenance excluding intentional exercise, and get my deficit from exercise. (My goal is to lose half a pound a week, so it doesn't take that much exercise.)
  • Aww, they conflate fitness with resting heart rate. :( My resting heart rate is low because of genetics, not fitness.
  • You've lost 17-18 pounds in 7 or 8 weeks? That sure looks like more than 2 pounds a week to me.

At dawn, the path was still so dark and foggy and deserted that instead of going out to the overpass and…
  • I try to eat more when I'm hungrier (usually rest days) and less when I'm not (usually heavier exercise days).
  • I am awesome at running, because I run ~13 minute miles. Nothing hurts, my breath is slow and smooth, and there's always more time and distance in my tank when I stop. If I tried to run 10 minute miles, I would suck at running way more than you do, which to me is not worth having 12 extra minutes to do stuff.

I ate a lot yesterday, but was still hungry, so had a nut bar, plus some extra water. The early bird gets the parking place, so I had to park across the street. That meant I finished…
  • I have much lower mileage than you, so my experience is probably entirely irrelevant. But on the off chance... If I've eaten at maintenance the day before, and don't wake up hungry, I run fasted. Otherwise, I have a Costco nut bar (Kind Bar equivalent). My stomach is not very picky, though, and I rarely have running…
  • 8/1: 3.1 8/3: 4.0 8/5: 4.0 8/8: 4.1 8/10: 2.3 Total: 17.5/44 I'd been up late the last couple of nights with a colicky teenager, and could not get out of bed this morning. Then I forgot she wanted me to come home early so we could go to strength class. So instead we went out tonight and she walked while I ran. She didn't…
  • I finished C25K about four weeks ago, and just used the "run a little bit further" method to increase my time and distance. I ran 56 minutes this morning, and an hour even would have been no big deal. Of course, I only went 4.1 miles... If I wanted to be able to run 6 miles 3x a week in another four weeks, I think that…
  • MFP way overcalculates for me. I use 0.63 calories per mile per pound (per https://www.runnersworld.com/weight-loss/how-many-calories-are-you-really-burning), and override MFP. MapMyRun is even worse at overstating calories burned. It makes sense that you'd be losing at lower mileage, because you'd be eating back fewer…
  • Same here! I am a person who tends to have a narrow waist and sturdy legs, the same way I am extra-flexible but not very coordinated. It's not like I did anything special to get any of those things; that's just the way my body is put together.
  • 8/1: 3.1 8/3: 4.0 8/5: 4.0 8/8: 4.1 Total: 15.2/44 I apparently didn't put my headphones back in the car after charging them over the weekend. But there's no going back, so I just turned the phone volume up and hoped for the best. The trail parallels a 75mph highway, so I mostly had subliminal metronome, but it worked…
  • Ugh. I hate that one so much that I made the instructor teach me an alternate one. I feel it zero percent in my adductors and 100 percent in my poor bruisey knees.
  • You had 10 8ths of a serving. 1.25 servings.
  • I adore my mom's Blendtec. Same theory as Vitamix, but the blades are dull (no need to sharpen, no risk of cutting yourself getting stuff out) and there's no plunger thingy. Also it's a little cheaper. She grinds her own flaxseed meal and almond butter with it.
  • Shoe lacing was my first thought, too. http://d2s0f1q6r2lxto.cloudfront.net/pub/ProTips/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/LACING-TECHNIQUES_DICKS_R27.jpg has some more lacing options.
  • I'm a couple months ahead of you, having finished up C25K the second week in July. Make your run segments slow, with quick short light steps. Also, feel free to join the August Running Challenge! The people there are great, and "finish the first 4 weeks of C25K" is an entirely appropriate goal for that group.…
  • 8/1: 3.1 8/3: 4.0 8/5: 4.0 Total: 11.1/44 Stayed up too late last night. Woke up a million times with perimenopausal night sweats. Had an anxiety dream for the first time in forever. Got out of bed an hour later than I'd intended. Today is apparently peak DOMS from Thursday's weights class. But the weather said this…
  • 5K local to me last Saturday: Two runners averaged 8:00 per mile. They finished 37th and 38th out of 590 runners. This was a certified, non-novelty race with 10K and Fun Run options. One of the local running stores does a C25K program whose participants are intended to participate in it, so it's somewhat skewed to newer…
